The Halo 3 Beta Thread

I plan on recording quite a few 'demos' (the in game recordings), then recording those in my cam corder so I can watch during the non demo months.

Also, I'm sure Bungie will be putting up new info on various aspects of the game to tide us over until the game's release. That is what has kept me going so far, along with trying to rack up achievements. I'm new to the 360, April 29th yumm Elite, so all it's goodness is new to me and time seems to be flying by.

No...the only blasphemous statement would be Shadowrun > PDZ Multi > Gears Multi

I think that'll come true too...if only Gears would have client-side hit detection, I'd bite again.
 
pdz multi > halo 2 multi as well, i'm not quite sure why pdz gets the shit it does around here considering it's one of the most functional and deep console FPS ever crafted.

If they tightened up the controls, it'd be great. But the controls and the animations suck.
 
Is it harder to get kills in this game or are people just rusty? I think only one or two people actually have a positive k/d ratio.

I actually think its just as easy, or easier to get kills. I am a bit rusty, havent really played halo in months. Although my kill ratio was always right about 1 to 1 anyway...Im more of a team player! =) haha, thats my excuse.
 
i'm not in the beta, nor do i even own a 360, but i would guess that shittier ratios are because people are just fooling around a lot and playing with the new toys
 
Well since Squick introduced me to a bunch of you guys during the F&F Beta this weekend, I thought I'd finally come out of lurk mode and make my first post here on NeoGAF. Now that the Beta is public, it's nice to be able to discuss the gameplay with some of you guys.

Hopefully I get to know and play with some of you guys enough so that next gen H3 teabag will have additional meaning to it. :D :lol

That´s right, especially the controls in PDZ are just bad. You can´t hit s**t no matter how much you adjust the settings.

Aside from suicides/betrayals, the K/D ratio evens out across the entire population.

Maybe it says something about GAF, or rather the GAFers who got F&F invites.

because PDZ is shit and youre the only one who supports it. gaf and ign forums, youre all over PDZ like its actually a good game.

anyway, you can set parties up with your friends before start playing matchmaking, right? because i thought i heard you can only allow people to join your party if you meet them in matchmaking.

Not to contribute to the derailation of this thread or anything, but I have to say that PDZ had a stellar multiplayer mode.

A sterling .67 kill-assist/death ratio.

I'm a good teammate in the objective based games...I'll distract the enemy, constantly rush them, etc. I die a lot. :D

But to be honest, it's so fun still. Even though I suck, I still enjoy Halo 3 and THAT says a lot.

I wish there was Saved Films in Halo 2. I would've saved, shown and bragged about my stick from across the map on Gemni.

A bunch of people (Game Informer forums) are going to send me their best games, I'll record them with my capture card and make a "group" montage. Hopefully it'll be pretty cool.

The montages when the full game is out are going to be great, with the detachable camera and other controls. We're so used to seeing everything from the in-game perspective, the variety a detached camera introduces is giong to rock.
 
Yeah, saved films is really an ingenious idea. I hope there's some really easy, intuitive way to share the films. For example, an option for an entire party to watch films at the same time or a YouTube-like service.

The party leader controls playing the film FF, RW, slow-mo, etc and everyone in the party can be watching their own view of the same battle, flying cameras around, etc. It will be great for reviewing team strategy.

well i hope the fall update makes it so you can send content from your xbox 360 to your pc for editing and internet sharing.

i know we can use the pc to send content to xbox 360, a feature i love, but i dont think its a feature thats vice versa.

possibly Bungie can make the editing tools available to windows live users. btw, i have live messenger, but how do you send messages and stuff to your friends list?
 
This might have been mentioned beforehand, but on a gametrailers clip one of the developers at Bungie said that the main reason for this beta was to see if they need to bring back the original halo pistol.

Could it actually be coming back? I don't know if I should be happy or worried.

Link please. I'm almost positive the CE pistol won't be back, but I wouldn't complain if it did.

Nah, that's a completely tongue-in-cheek reply if I ever saw one.
 
In the IGN interview linked in the OP, Sketch says this RE: the pistol.

"Most of the Bungie team would view the Halo 1 pistol as a broken weapon, because really it's over-powered - it's not balanced. I've had as much fun as everybody else sniping people on Blood Gulch for hours on end, but I think it was a really one-dimentional aspect of the game. It turned the game into nothing more than pistol headshots. And for that matter, we don't love it as much as we know a lot of the fans do."
