The Halo 3 Beta Thread

I wasn't planning on it, but I think I'll stay up all night and wait for the beta. I have a 9 hour shift tomorrow and I'm going to really regret it, but what the hell. If MMO launches and betas have taught me anything, it's that the beta download will probably be delayed well into the afternoon and I'll have ruined my day for nothing. But you know what? Sleep is for babies, real gamers play all night.*

Same here, I need to get some sleep. I've got my alarm set up, good luck to everyone else trying to download it in the morning.
 
I'm Eastern time, crashing right now. I've set my alarm for 6 in case the beta goes up early. If it does I'll set it to download and go back to sleep. If it's not up I'll reset my alarm for my originally planned time of 7:30 or so. I hardly see the point in staying up all night, I imagine it'll be at LEAST a 2 hour download if not more depending on what kind of servers they have it on and how busy it is. I basically hope to have it by noon.
 
Wow, the Halo Beta look hot! I got 45$ in Gift Card at Best Buy, thinking of picking up Crackdown (which I have no interest in) instead of saving it for Forza.... Hmmm

Don't do it! It's a three week Beta. If you have no interest in Crackdown (which is a great game) just buy Forza* and wait until the finished product this fall. Seriously, it's not worth buying a $60 just to play.

*I'm saying this as someone who hates realistic racers and love the Halo games. There is so much more value in Forza 2 that it would be ludicrous to miss out on that for a few weeks with a beta.

Ha! Nice. When this would come up in Random, I would just run around closing doors and planting mines on stairs. Not a bad level, but no where near the quality found in every other GE map.

It just takes some different tactics - namely, chasing people down the dead end corridor and playing ring around the rosie around the column with RCP90s!

I don't know if it's me or what, but i run into trash talking chicks in Halo all of the time. I even went at it with one of the PMS chicks the other day. I can't help it if her head fits right in the reticule of my shotgun perfectly.

There's supposed to be Big Team Battle, BTB Training and 2v2 Training playlists that up until now have not been in the Beta. They're still supporting 12 players max in the Beta, with 16 in the final game.

Ranked Playlists

* Rumble Pit – all out action with you entering alone to play in Slayer, and some objective game types. Max party size: 1 (you!).
* Team Slayer – Enter alone or with a small group and you’ll be matched against another team of equal size in a small variety of Slayer variants. Team Size: 3-4. Max party size: 4
* Team Skirmish – Team based objectives are the order of the day here, everything from single flag CTF to Territories. Team Size: 3-4. Max party size: 4
* Big Team Battle – Just like it says. Big team based games on maps big enough to support them. In this case, that’s Valhalla. Team Size: 5-6. Max party size: 6.

Social Playlists

* Rumble Training – Just like Rumble Pit, but unranked. Max party size: 6
* Team Training – An unranked mixture of team-based games, with both Slayer and objective types. Team Size: 3-4. Max party size: 8
* BTB Training – An unranked version of Big Team Battle. Max party size: 12
* 2V2 Training – Pint-sized teams battle each other for bragging rights and little else in this unranked playlist. Max party size: 4

Well it's official now!

Today, though, Bungie Studios revealed that Halo 3 will break with tradition and arrive nearly two months ahead of its anticipated mid-November launch. The Xbox 360-exclusive shooter will ship on September 25 in North America, and will ship in Europe the following day.

just got home from work, tried out the area 51 and trusty bell demos (both seem like cool games). i signed onto the halo 3 beta, and it said i needed an update. after updating, i launched it again, and now i no longer get the "loading halo 3 beta, love, bungie" message, and it rather quickly goes to the bungie intro, then goes to the next screen where it should say stuff with "press a to continue" but now the box that pops up is blank. if i press a, it takes me to the valhala flyby title screen menu, but again, the menu system isnt loading properly and is also blank. will it let me delete and redownload with the same F&F code or am i now screwed? anyone know?

While I don't necessarily like it, I think having the option is still worthwhile... what pisses me off in the beta is that grenades no longer kick as much ass as they used to. I mean, I've seen guys walk away from damn near squating on them.

Since my gold account ran out and I wasnt able to re-up it, I'm selling my copy of Crackdown complete with Halo 3 beta invite. Let me know if you're interested.
 
UPDATE: In some cases, users are experience a lack of fonts or characters in the user interface after downloading today's update. If this happens to you, all hope is not lost, do not despair, do not run around screaming.

Instead, do the following.
First, restart your Xbox 360.
Second, boot up the Halo 3 beta.
Third, while in the Halo 3 boot up sequence press up on the D-pad and hold the A button until you see the Bungie logo. If you've completed this correctly there will be a dialog box confirming maintenance has been done on your system.
Four, resume bathing in the Halo 3 Public Beta.

yeah my gold account ran out this past sunday...but I just re-uped today =/

....and it wasn't just to play the Halo3 beta =p

dude don't sell Crackdown...that shit deserves to be in everyone's permenent collection :)

I'd buy it again later probably at a lower price, but I wont get to use the beta, so someone may as well.
 
I wonder if the Red-vs-Blue guys are going to shoot as much Halo 3 footage as possible...

On a similar note, the entire internet also has three weeks to shoot as much Halo 3 footage as possible. Also, if once the three weeks are up, couldn't some inspiring person just keep their final game going indefinitely?
 
to the people playing it now, how are you doing that? are people that are getting it through crackdown getting it after those who were actually selected?

also, is there a countdown or something online to check how much time is left?

Yes, a few people got Friends and Family invites from Bungie and started playing at the end of last week. Crackdown and Rule of Three people get in Wednesday at 7AM CST. Countdown on bungie.net!
