The Halo 3 Beta Thread

to the people playing it now, how are you doing that? are people that are getting it through crackdown getting it after those who were actually selected?

also, is there a countdown or something online to check how much time is left?
The front page of http://www.bungie.net has one, on the right side.

Anyone else having a problem updating Crackdown? I've yet to get the latest update, and now it's booting me off Live every time I start up the disc as well as failing to grab the update.

I think even if Killzone 2 was announced right now with graphics as good as the E3 2005 tech-demo, I still wouldn't be as excited for it as I am for Halo 3. Just knowing I'm going to be playing this beast tomorrow thrills me.

(*&$@(*&$

It's happening to Striker as well.

EDIT: Just checked RTW's website, it's happening a lot there.

Wait, what is this update for Crackdown? Is it the update that is supposed to enable the download? Maybe that's the reason it isn't working. I tried mine and it didn't work either.

It could be set so we won't be able to download it till the beta releases.

Nobody knows yet.

sorry I had to leave guys.

I'm trying to keep it down but it was clear to me that it was not possible to keep it quiet enough for my parents. I wish I was still at my dorm room!

fun game though!

Same thing here -- won't let me download the crackdown update (and I just got the required update for crackdown dlc a couple hours ago, so this is new)

Bungie.net and Real Time Worlds' website already have a bunch of threads about it. The general consensus is this has to do with the Beta. But they're cutting it way too close to comfort without any kind official response.

Crackdown locked up on me and then it said my game save was corrupted.
Anyone else have this problem?

umm, I just downloaded the Crackdown update with no problems, when I played it 3 hours ago there was no update.

checking the downloads page, halo 3 beta is still not lit up, im gonna sleep until 8, then download it, waiting will be too hard.

quick question, how large is the Halo 3 beta? im wondering if I should delete somethings for it, im downloading the Viva Pinata demo now and its like 1.3 gigs.

The one given to gaming media was ~910 MB, but Bungie's FAQ says you need 1.1GB free

How about this, what are the chances that the it will be released at exactly 5 a.m. PDT? Eh? Eh? (I really don't want to wake up early and find it not there and/or find out its been released for the past two hours :P)

even if it is released exactly then, the server is going to get pounded hard, the download will most likely take a long time to download with tons of drops.

Won't that mean it will be even superslower? You guys are talking about download speeds for the beta, right?
Well I don't think there'll be a lot of people waiting up to start the download that early. If it's around 8 a.m., a lot of people will be at work or at school. If it's like 12 a.m. PDT like some people have specculated, hardly anybody will be up. Either way, I would imagine it'll be slower as the day goes on.

Say... 7 hours, just in time for me to come home from school and have it waiting for me? :)

I wish it was 12 am. 8 am just means that even if I let it run all day with the new low power dl option it still won't be done when I get back from work because 768,000 other East Coast Salarymans will be doing the same ****in' thing.

I don't think they'll need to issue a Crackdown update to enable the beta download - I'm pretty sure the DLC menu in Crackdown checks content availability when the game is loading up.

I think everybody here is overestimating the amount of people who are getting in the Beta. Crackdown sold around a million copies. There were probably around 25,000 people who got into the Beta through the Rules of Three and the random invites from the first launch. I would imagine there will probably be around 500,000 people tops who get in the Beta. Maybe half of those will download it as soon as it goes live.
