The Halo 3 Beta Thread

This just in! The Microsoft team has identified the issue that was preventing the Halo 3 beta from being downloaded via Crackdown. This problem is expected to be fixed within the next 3 to 6 hours.

nice stealth edit Luke, managing expectations :D

It was a shame that it had to take 11 hours for this to be found, lack of transparancy over that time by whoever FTL :D

Can't wait to download this at peak times from a bunch of ****tard server monkeys with their heads up their asses.

QFT.

If you guys think you'll be playing by midnight eastern time, think again. Those servers are gunna get pounded hard.

I'm gonna dl in the morning in UK time I think now actually, it would be better as I don't suspect the download won't take too long as all you US people would have dled it by then and would be playing it.

3-6 actually means 6-8. Don't be mad if its not up in 3 hours. I'll be back from work just in time to play the beta!

And then watch, 9 hours from now I will come back into the thread and bitch about how the beta still isn't up yet :lol

Two Points:

1. There were some in other threads that claimed that the franchise was losing steam and that Halo 3 wouldn't enjoy the same success that Halo 2 did. Unless this PR nightmare hurts them a great deal (and ultimately I don't think it will), I think this thread proves otherwise and that H3 is going to sell in massive numbers like H2 did.

2. After this debacle I seriously doubt that anyone will try the "bundle an invitation to a highly desirable downloadable beta (that is not included) with a retail game" again. We'll see completed demos that are done and on the disk of course but nothing like this. The fact that Crackdown and the beta were marketed like they were means that when trouble happens with the beta's availability, all your problems are magnified 100X because people feel they are "owed" something. In hindsight I think it was a bad idea and they would be much better off giving all the invites out via contests and such.

2 points:

1. The people who bought Crackdown, that were promised a place in the Halo 3 beta are owed that place (no quotes). MS made a deal with the consumer.

2. Giving away spots in the Beta as a contest or regular invites instead of the Crackdown route would have insured Crackdown had sales comparable to Saints Row.

no it took all day to identify the issue and write code to fix it. now the code is in cert phase and how long it takes depends on if any issues are found

We're happy to finally announce that the issues being faced with the Halo 3 beta and Crackdown will be resolved shortly. The Microsoft team has found a solution and it's undergoing final testing now. Assuming the test pass goes according to plan, the fix will come in the form of a Crackdown title update within the next three to six hours.

This thread is going to cruise by 10000 posts just for the freakin' beta. Amazatron.

*shakes fist* we're coming for you Pokemon, and when we get to you we're going to stick a grenade to your affront-to-gaming ass.

I'd just like the make it explicit that we're getting a new episode of Lost AND Halo 3 beta tonight. As a wise man once said, I wish there were more crappy things to do so I wouldn't feel bad about not doing them.

We understand many of you were eagerly awaiting your chance to jump into the Halo 3 Beta and this technical issue has put a damper on your plans. Thankfully the fix is incoming and we're sincerely sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. Ultimately we hope this will all soon be a distant memory once you pick up the Spartan Laser, launch yourself from a Mancannon and enjoy online shenanigans with your friends.

As a reminder, people who already have the Halo 3 Beta are unaffected by this issue. We'll keep you posted as soon as we have more information.

it's midnight here now so I'm going to go to sleep and hopefully wake up briefly at 6am to start my download. thank you all for a pretty funny thread on a pretty disappointing day.

they must have pushed it back to 3-6 because of the ottawa/buffalo game. oh well, over promise, under deliver. or whatever, when it's ready in a hour, we'll all rejoice.

The fact that the patch to Crackdown has to even pass certification is a sick joke. THEY JUST RELEASED ONE THAT BLINDLY DESTROYED SAVE FILES. Not to mention all the other horrendous bugs the game is now robust with.

is it unhealthy to sit here and press A then B on the downloads option? :(

Quality Assurance has seen a major cutback during the X360 period, not just hardware, but software too. Where have you been lately?

Good to see this thing finally coming sooner than later.

Now, could you imagine if Crackdown was a horrible game? The vitriol and anger alone would invoke horrors on this board...you know, like when NPDs are announced. :)
