The Halo 3 Beta Thread

Maybe I just haven't played Halo for a while, but I thought I remembered it being faster than this. Maybe not though.

I felt it was slow also. I also kinda wish the gravity was a bit heavier when coming down from the man cannon, you just seem really vulnerable... But it'd probably be too hard to aim that way.

I have a stupid question:

How do you choose between hosting and joining a game?

You don't. Matchmaking selects the host. Not sure how it works if you are the party leader in a full room, but even then, I assume it's trying to pick the 360 with the best rated connection.

And it appears to know what its doing too, haven't had ANY lag in however many games I've played.

I've had some, but not anywhere near H2 levels. Of course, there were only 1500 people in the beta when I was playing and no games larger than eight players. Last night was a different story altogether. ;)

Yeah, I suck. Although one game I didn't get any kills because I was trying to help my sister not die every ten seconds.

Every time I die the status screen pops up and everyone's connection is red, then when I'm back up it's all full green...this means I'm the host, right?

Hey, I figure anything at or above .5 is decent in a game like this where its a controller shooter and you're going up against guys who haven't lost any skill from their halo and halo 2 days.

Thankfully, I'm at like .7 hopefully I can pull that up even more though. I've only had a couple games over 1.

This game is so ****ing awesome. Last night me and about five other guys had a game of Crazy King going on Valhalla. Most of the game it was my friend who was leading, until I started just timing it right and racking up Hill control time. Anyway right at the end of the match with about ten seconds left, I'm leading him by a single point. We both hit the last hill at the same time and we're trying to kill each other. The final score was me: 100 and him: 99. He started yelling/"noooo"-ing, and I couldn't help but laugh and yell "One ****ing point!" :lol

This game is so awesome.

This makes me want to jump online right now!

I hate work :(

Just played for two hours this morning and I'm taking a brief minute to share my thoughts...****ing awesome. A few points I'd like to throw out.

- The AR is balanced perfectly. You always have a chance in any fight.
- All three maps are fun
- The game types I've played so far have been vastly improved from the game types in Halo 2. A lot quicker, and a lot cleaner so it's get in, have some fun, move on to the next game. No more dragged out games. The only one that I didn't really LIKE so far is VIP on Valhalla.
- The Brute Shot is still a little meh
- When you dismount the turret it is a little overpowered at distances. Reducing it's range when dismounted or something could help.

Anyway, those are my thoughts so far now back to Halo 3! Love it!

I had a blast with it last night. Played with a bunch of buddies from another forum, but we're all level 1 and we kept getting matched up with level 3-6 guys, hence, we got raped.

BTW, who's DJ Brannon?

Holy crap, I love this game.

The AR is such a brilliant weapon, I got a spartan laser kill too. Damn Bungie, what a freakin excellent game.

I still have yet to even play this. It took forever to download last night and I had to go to bed not too long after I got it. Now I'm at work for another 12 hours - good lord.

One of these days Halo 3 Beta....one of these days....

I had zero lag in the two games I played, and there was a fairly large number of people online.

In theory, there more people there are online, the better the network performance gets, since there are more, closer and better hosts and connections to choose from. Netcode this time around is performing much better for me (so far).

I disagree. It's helluva lot faster and more powerful than before. Probably one of my new favorite weapons now.

This is the best game your company has ever done. By far.

I don't know how I'm supposed to make it 'till the end of September after the beta ends. I'm going to lose my mind.

Every person I've played with (in 12 games so far) has been gushing about it too. Halo 3 will clearly set the bar for this gen as well. Excellent work, Bungie.

Im loving it. Great game. Graphics in this game doesn't really matter to me at all even if it is a beta. Great work, I can't wait to leave today to get back home and play even more.

Last night notwithstanding, (the servers were getting hammered by the flood of new players), the netcode has been close to flawless for me. Maybe a slight hiccup or two, but really solid otherwise.

Am I the only one that hates the snow level? I just can't get into it's design. It makes me think of an Unreal map. Except Halo doesn't have the gravity defying jumps that Unreal has so the way the map is made doesn't really fit it.

I agree. I've had very few instances where I actually notice any latency. Melee connect when they should, despo 'nades get thrown every time with split second, beyond the grave precision, and I can snipe people nearly across the whole map.

Where do we submit bug reports?

Would be nice if console devs would stop using these green/yellow/red graphics to indicate connection performance and use the actual ping number, would make thing much clearer when trying to see if a match you're joining is right for you.

No. It doesn't. Play some Halo 2 and then do some matchmaking on H3 and you'll see the leap that it is.
I maintain that people are confusing art style with visual fidelity. It looks like Halo 2 is style....but the detail is severely ratched up, the lighting is just sick and there's great effects all over the place.

BB, Ghaleon, Tieno, did you check out the vid I suggested? I got to play a few games last night after 9PM, got paired with some random guys on a CTF match and we partied up for a few games after that. I love the party system, and how easy it is to keep a group together.

Pulled off a move that amazed my teammates (and myself) in one of the CTF matches on HG. One of our guys was past the bunker with the flag running to the beach. A Blue comes screaming out of the base on a 'goose, and tries to run me over, I dodge (or he just missed me. Happened so fast I can't quite remember), and I actually meleed him off the 'goose! One hit to the back of the skull as he was driving by.! Thank goodness for saved films! And Bungie, please don't kill the films with the next update. I want to treasure that moment for more than 3 days this time!

The needler is such a beast now. It was actually my weapon of choice in the game mentioned above. Still can't find the damned rocket on HG, but I think that's because someone else is always grabbing it first. High Grounds is definitely my favorite map of the three for CTF, while Valhalla is the best for Assault and VIP, IMO.

I'm glad everyone else is finally able to get in finally. Should be interesting to see how high this thread goes from here.
Don't delete this movie, I'll watch it tonight!

Retard.

Hard to tell if this has been posted yet, but has anyone hung out by the radio on High Ground? It's next to the flag point in captur the flag.

One problem I've encountered, my matchmaking fills up with 'found players' then just when every slot is filled up it clears it all and reverts back to the start of the searching process. What's up with that?

Last night I got to play exactly TWO games. One was Team Training with Ghaleon and then for whatever reason the game split us up? After that I didn't get to play again. I kept getting the game over screen. I tried for like a hour to play and kept getting the same thing so I just got frustrated and went to sleep.

Oh and the graphics are AMAZING. I'm running it on a 61'' 1080p TV with the 360 set to 1080p and OMFG.

I have no idea where people were getting Halo 2.5 from. When a game can make my girl say "wow that looks really good" then you know you have a winner.

I'm about to hop on now does anybody wanna try and get a few games goin?

Htx Darren Htx is the tag if your down.

Green = 1
Yellow = 2
Red = 3

1 = best
3 = worst
