The Halo 3 Beta Thread

Check out my shared video for rumble pit (YamaMX). It's too much fun beasting on all of these people who never play Halo. :lol

If I recall correctly, the steps I took to get it working was:

Start from 360 Dashboard, go to Memory and clear the cache as described.
Turn off the system.
Turn system back on after 30 seconds or so, go into crackdown, accept the update.
Go to Play Halo 3 Beta button.
Say no to updating the beta.
At the title screen to Halo 3 beta, press the guide button and log out of your profile.
Press the guide button again and log back into my profile.
Accept the update.

I believe at that point is when it ended up working. Both times the Halo 3 beta loaded up I tried the Press up and Hold A thing that is listed on Bungie.net but I never got the confirmation box. Maybe I'm pressing it too early or too late or something.

Good luck! I'm hoping to play when I get home and hope I don't have to jump through these hoops again.

Edit: Now that the servers are probably a little less stressed I might even just try deleting the beta, clearing my cache, turning the system on and off and then redownloading the beta. I had to cancel and restart the download twice the first time.

I killed someone by beaning them on the head with it as I soared past them from the manCannon. Don't even think it blew up. Blunt force trauma.
 
In matchmaking it's fun playing with people who play their first match. They have no clue, what does X do? How do I enter a vehicle? What's tat octagon shape thingy...oops it's a powerdrainer...

I once deployed a trip mine in a king of the hill zone just as I got killed. Get back up...double kill...triple kill!
I'm going to try that mancannon tripmine thing.
 
I may just not have the hang of it, but does anyone else here think that the spartan laser is raw jank? Like really, charge time is too long, its kinda hard to aim it when you don't have any control over when it is going to go off and there is little to no splash damage (it basically needs a direct hit).

Since this is a beta (and Frankie occasionally reads this stuff) it seems fitting that we give some feedback. I'd like to see spartan laser either with a second or two where you can move it around (like a combination between the guardian laser in halo 2 and what it is now) or with more splash damage (like hammer of dawn in gears). Anyone agree? Disagree? Or am I just a complete nub with the weapon?
 
Stayed up way too late playing last night. Really like High Ground, but always played horrible on Snowbound. H3 is freaking awesome.


Btw, why isn't this thread stickied? 10,000+ replies. Halo is more popular than a cure for cancer.
 
People, stop shitting up the thread with your useless stats and shitty cell phone pics of your tv running halo. NOBODY GIVES A DAMN. People are stuck skipping 50 pages of worthless gushing to get any real infos.

I got the "Beta has ended" message, how can i clear this up? I know that last night someone posted a workaround, but it's impossible to find now thanks to 'HAY GUYS 40 KILLS 80 DEATHS I R THE HALU CHAMPION!1" morons.

Don't know how many players this is actually affecting, and where the cause of the problem lies, but the merest acknowledgement that this seems to be a problem for some people would be kinda nice. That being said, I'm sure Bungie are on top of it and are working to come up with something - they've probably got enough stuff to think of as it is... I just hope to play soon....! :)

People can be pretty lethal with it, they don't need to make it easier to kill people with that deathray.

Not going to say your a nub, but it takes practice. It's well balanced and would be over powered with a smaller charge-up time. Practice with it a bit and get a feel for when it goes off... its I think about 3 sec and BOOM! :)

Speaking of which, I watched that on film last night. :lol It did not blow up. You essentially assassinated the guy with a mine upside his head. :lol

There is nothing wrong with the laser, and I think it is balanced perfectly.

That'd be nice, so if your statistics see that a certain mode is getting vetod every time then you guys would hopefully remove it from the playlist. Every time 6/8 people veto territories (including me).
Yep, we keep track of what gets vetoed, and we will ultimately use that kind of information to refine the playlists. Bringing players into the feedback loop was one of the goals of adding that feature.

Wow, move it around while it's firing? I'm pretty decent with the weapon.

Probably my favorite defense against vehicles (predictable path of motion).
 
is anyone playing on an lcd through the VGA cable? is it me or does it seem more jaggy than the screens posted here? it is set on 1280x1024 and the beta is fullscreen on my monitor. maybe theres some vga issues like gears had?

I managed to carry out the hold-up-and-press-A method and got the confirmation that the utility file had been deleted. I basically "started pressing" the moment I had pressed "Play Halo 3-beta" in the Crackdown "downloads" menu, and didn't let up until the confirmation window appeared.

With regard to re-downloading the beta: I'm doing that right now, and my download seemed faster twelve hours ago...

I guess all the opposite team needs to be in the "respawn countdown" at the same time

If your team kills the entire opposing team at the same time - before any of them respawn - the guy that lands the final kill gets the Extermination medal.
 
I had this problem with gears and it looks like halo is doing it too. my first matchmaking attempt of a game it will hang up for a couple minutes and then tell me I am logged out. first time every time. weird.
 
I keep killing noobs who don't yet know what the tripmine is. I deployed a tripmine right in front of this guy. He backs up. Hops on a mongoose, then proceeds to drive DIRECTLY INTO the tripmine trying to run me over.



That's happened a few times already this morning.

Oh, and note to Bungie: cut back on the territories. Nothing like 8 people vetoing a territories session only to get another one. I don't mind it too much on High Ground, but it sucks on Valhalla. Every other session I've gotten has been territories on Valhalla. ANNOYING!

Same for me.. it doesnt really bother me but if there is a way to fix it that would be nice.
 
So far I've only had to rate one player down, due to singing. It feel so strange to have good behavior in game chat.

Loving it so far. The needler brings the fear.
 
I love how the noob combo isn't so nooby anymore. Also improved BR rocks! I find myself still using the same guns from Halo 2 though.

I disliked the idea from the beginning, but now that it's implemented, I wish people would use it. I guess it's to hinder the assholes constantly flooding, but it's hurting everyone else too. :\ I hate interrupting my movement to talk. That might also be why people don't talk much.

Exactly. I love having to not hear the assholes, but i miss hearing my teammate. I feel like it makes team games harder. Like you said I shouldn't have to interrupt my movement to talk to my teammates. I just shouldn't. Hell, in the voice options you can select team only, so its not like they can't filter the chat. I just don't want to have to push up every time I want to say something to people.
 
Yeah, I ****ing love the needler... Anyone know a way to get pass the "press the dpad to talk" thing? It's reallly annying me. How could they make such a big mistake
