The Halo 3 Beta Thread

Did you miss where I said that I have PLAYED the game? I even posted it a page back. I played 5000 games and I stopped playing in August. I'm sure I too could have 10,000 games played if I hadn't. It's not like I just started playing the Halo series. Give me a break man. Your just trying to make a big deal that you have played it a ton, and make it seem like we haven't.

maaybee u shoud L2P, nubsauce lulz

seriously, there's nothing subjective to argue here he's just wrong. plain and simple.
you can have push to talk and continuously open communication in the same channel a la ventrilo

if anybody needs to play some voice chat games it's this guy

Because Bungie designed it this way for strategical purposes. I'm not the developer. I don't care which way it goes. You want to bitch, harrass Frankie. I've adapted and excelled at it as have everybody I play with. The only people that claim and I quote "nobody talks in team games" are the ones who are complaining here. And by that statement, "nobody talks in team games" they're not playing the game the way it should be played.

There you go again. Clearly you've asked every single Halo player if they dislike the dpad chat option and the only ones who you forgot to ask was us. I could sit here and do a google search and show you plenty of people who complain about it, but you'll just brush it off and say they are n00bs who haven't completed 10000 games. Hell the first link on a google search for Halo 3 team chat brings you to this: http://www.2old2play.com/News/Halo_3_Beta__A_Seriously_In_Depth_Review

Over on the Bungie forums, they’re saying that there’s a Team Chat voice option that leaves the voice channel between you and your teammates open all the time. I apparently haven’t found that yet, but if it’s true then I’m a happy man.

If they’re not, you’ll be using the D-pad to activate your com. It makes a goofy noise when you do. Using the D-pad to talk is inconvenient. If you take your thumb off the left stick to activate voice, you stop moving. Why would you ever want to stop moving in a Halo game? I’m hoping the Timmies on Bungie are correct. If they are, that’s the most brilliant, simple thing ever.

But that guy must not count either.

Wtf is the secret to halo? I had this same problem in Halo 2. I can stand there right with my crosshairs on someone and empty clip after clip into them, even using bursts doesn't help. They rarely ever die. Most of the time they'll just turn around, stare at me like I got off the handicap buss and bitch slap me to death =[

Could be your weapon choice, how far out you are when you engage, your aim, whether you soften them up with a grenade, what weapon they have, how skilled they are, whether or not you are finishing with headshots, etc.

But you should just say that you're lagging or that they are cheating. Either way works.

Why not have the option to turn always team talk on? WHY NOT?

Personally, I wouldn't want to hear everybody's non-important chatter. Some people on XBL just talk and talk and talk. Of course there are morons who toggle the team chat for every damn thing they say and I quickly mute these people. If Team-chat was always on by option a lot of people would do it and I would have to mute far more folks because they got on my nerves with their inane speech or annoying accents (sue me). The point is that it would result in more mutings, so I wouldn't hear it when they had important stuff to say, and make good team-play even more difficult.

I do communicate; my team does not. Therefore, I hate push to talk.

QED
So, you blame push to talk on people not talking? I've played tons of Gears of War games were nobody talked even though I've talked. I've played tons of Lost Planet games where I've talked and nobody else has. I've played tons of Chromehounds games where I've talked and nobody else has. There goes your argument out the door.

I think this thread is a place for us to discuss what we like and don't like about the Beta. Since you are NOT the developer why are you telling people that Bungie did this or that for this or that reason? You aren't the developer right?

I don't care if you adapted and excelled at it. Just because you've played the game a billion times and have adapted to this uncessary requirement to talk to your teammates doesn't mean I should have to adapt to it too. What if they put shooting the gun on the start button? I suppose you'd adapt to that and not bitch one bit about it right? There is NO reason to not have it as an option. I played 10 games last night and they were largely quiet unless I asked a question to the team.

I have no idea why you would be fighting everyone that doesn't like it so strongly. What's the big deal if they added the option?

Has there been a status update on this? It took me forever to get ONE rumble training game today because of those damn errors.
I have not seen one, but then I missed most of the past thousand posts.

JdFoX187 said:
No, I'm simply making the point that nobody I have ever played with has ever complained about pressing a button to talk. I've played with a lot of people. So that tells me you must not be very versed on Halo to understand.

Wow. just wow. I must not be very versed. Your right. Clearly I should bow down to your superior Halo knowledge. Because nobody you've talked to has said its a problem, clearly its not a problem. I like that logic.

Even in player matches, half or more of my GoW matches have people talking.

I've had ONE game in Halo 3 where people talked, out of 16.

Why are we talking about realism? Since when is Halo about realism?
Hey, I don't think it's realistic that we can't get headshots with all weapons!

Why do you continue this assinine argument? After I reply to you, I'm ignoring this conversation. I'm tired of wasting my time with you. It's like talking to a wall. You can google some people that compolain about it. Big whoop. There are people who complained about Halo 2's weapon balance. It was great to me and it's one of the most played games ever on Xbox LIVE. So what does that tell you? It doesn't affect the majority.

The majority of people don't mind the "push to talk" as you have come to call it. If it was such a bad thing, don't you think Bungie would have changed it? It must not have been because Bungie didn't do anything.

Are you saying that having the team chat to talk discourages people from talking team chat? From the people arguing against a togle on/off for team chat it would seem like hitting to talk to the team is no effort at all so I don't see how that would discourage people.

1) It's like talking without pushing to talk, mirite? :lol
2) Halo 2's weapon balance was awful.
3) Unfounded argument.

Thats what I fail to get about this guy. He doesn't work for Bungie, he's in a thread about the beta where we are to post ideas/impressions/improvements/bugs/etc, yet he is being defensive about a part of the game.

Ah, the voice of reason.

Anyways, with the inclusion of the quick mute function and don't see why they have to do this push to talk thing anymore.

The ONLY thing we have proven here is that push to talk and open chat don't effect communication. That nullifies everything you guys have been trying to say. I'm done with this argument. I'll come back to the thread when you all have bitched yourself out about the chat.

No, we've proven that push to talk does affect communication.

That's why all of our games have been silent.

I'll bet dollars to donuts that in all these games where "no one" is talking, people ARE talking, but they aren't pressing the d-pad first :) They don't realize no one can hear them.

At the very start of a match, hit the d-pad, say "remember you need to tap the d-pad to talk to your whole team," and then go.

So this isn't just isolated to a select few because I see people playing on my list?

Not exactly sure why it happens but it happened to me last night and I let the game sit in the title screen and in a couple of minutes it was back to normal.

I have asinine arguments? You can't even spell it correctly for one thing. For another you have no idea what your talking about. You keep dismissing the topic by saying nobody else has that problem its just you guys, so to show you its not just me I show you someone else who shares the opinion. I am not arguing that its the majority of people who play the game. Your throwing that in there. And on another note, because the majority don't complain its not a issue? Wow. You are mind boggling sir. I've mentioned this before, but halo 2 came out before most games that have open/free team communications. Maybe thats why nobody has complained? Because they didn't know any better.

Yeah, apparently confirmed it's completely down, no one can get back into it, and the cache fix apparently is not working this time. God, and it's only 1:45 west coast time. I wish I could at least get in to watch films.

So I was in this game on Valhalla and my team was winning by a significant margin.

Knowing I could end the game quickly and let everyone get on with their lives and another, more interesting game, I accepted the role of a goods sportsman and starting finding random things to throw in the mancannon.

I think the bubble shield was my favorite. The Missile Pod a close second.

I hope we get to see banshees on the map so I can push one onto the mancannon, launch right after it, board it in midair and take off without hitting the ground. It would be boss.

Gameplay is tight.

Graphics aren't quite as good as I had thought. Lotsa jaggies.

Netcode is very good so far.

Favorite map is Valhalla (territories on that map is great).

Love the man-cannon. Hate the spartan laser. Hate how good some of these dudes are already.

Don't like push-to-talk.

Played for 4 straight hours and had a lot of fun. Good times.

It's strange I'm anticipating going home to play -- I absolutely wouldn't touch Halo 1/2 with a 100 foot pole. Didn't own an Xbox, what's going on?

Am I... Am I turning into an Xbot?!

This is all my opinion and I'm sure it's different for other people but:

I don't bitch at people for anything. If they are annoying I mute them at the first opportunity. If they have to make an effort to keep team-chatting with the timed toggle, many of the annoying people will not do it. They will just run around.

Some people play the game with loud music of their choice playing in the background. Most of the time I only have to hear it when they hit the toggle. They may be good players with important info for the team on occasion. If the toggle were permanent, I would have to listen to their music the whole game. Obviously, I would just mute them and be done with it, but again I've just lost an avenue for meaningful team play.

I never said it wasn't an effort to toggle the chat. It IS, but that's the whole point. Unless somebody is an a-hole, they won't make the effort to hit it all the time as they blather on, or listen to their music. If they are an a-hole, I mute them. If they are just talkative or listening to music and they don't hold the team-chat down, I can live with that.

The Morse code blaring from a computer in the back of the base on High Ground has been translate by the guys at HBO.

Section 1
..-. ..- --- --. -... .-.. .- ... - - .... . ...- . -. - -.-. --- .-. .
"Frogblast the ventcore"

Section 2
... -- -... -- -... .-- --..
"sababwl"

This is the acronym found on the Halo Soundtrack, so it's quite likely that this is correct. (This acronym has not yet been deciphered.)

Section 3
-.. --- -. - -- .- -.- - ..- ... -.- .. -.-. -.- -.-- --- ..- .-. .- ... ...
"Dont make us kick your ass"

http://nikon.bungie.org/misc/h3b_morse_egg/

I love stuff like this. :lol
