I wonder if Last Resort will show up in the Beta before it finishes. The map looked pretty decent for playing in the leaked video, so I'm hoping Bungie will update the Beta with BTB and this, and finish it off with a BANG.
I just want my 6v6 :-(

anyone have any guides for improving your live bandwith / network conditions ?

I really feel like I'm missing conversations often, and my game is def. lagged behind a bit.
Sometimes I can't join up with some friends (router issues I'm guessing). I'm currently wireless w/adaptor

Try to get your "NAT" settings to "Open" when doing XBL troubleshooting. If you can open up your 360's IP to the whole internet (it's under "DMZ - Demilitarized Zone"), that'll definitely help. Also, I heard to disable universal plug-and-play to have a better chance of connecting with friends.

Damn it TAPOUT, the color on your TV is amazing.

Well I can get into matchmaking, but after the player list fills up it dumps me back into the looking for ideal games phase. Went through this about 4 or 5 times and I gave up and came here.

The two times I got into a game it took a long time to determine the map and gametype, like 3-5 minutes. And after the one game it somehow broke my party apart into separate parties, where we had to rejoin. Then I ran into the glitch where it gets stuck looking for players with no way to hit b to back out to the lobby or Y to access the friends list (Though the guide button works).

Hopefully it will be a little smoother later tonight.

For all the people in this thread claiming halo3 graphics suck or are no better than HALO2 in HD. Its not even funny how much better H# looks....Keep in mind that this is only beta we are playing. Oh and thx for all the nice comments!

Hey folks,

The "Loading Information..." errors are related to the ones we were working on last night. The engineers are working towards permanent solutions (rather than just throwing more servers at the problem), so they may persist for a little while. Rest assured that the problem is not being ignored, though.

Do these include the problem that some people have with getting any playtime at all..? After many hours of re-downloading, re-booting, performing maintenance and signing in and out in all manner of combinations, I have yet to see anything else than the "GAME OVER"-screen when I press "play the beta". It's starting to get more than a little frustrating, especially since this weekend is the best chance I will have to put in some effective Halo 3-hours during the whole beta-period...

Well, at least you can't lock-on to vehicles with the rockets anymore. (At least I couldn't last night.) That should make them more useful than they were in H2. Using any vehicles in Coag if the other team had rockets was a death wish.

You can. You need the missile pod.

So is the "loading from xbox live" error still going on?

I quit a couple hours ago because of that. Wouldn't let me in any games.

Tapout, your pics are as good as ever. :)

thx. Ive tweaked my tv settings a little. The pics are not as sharp as Id like though. thats because my hands are not as still as they should be to get the sharpest pic possible. Oh well.

No, you're right. The spawns on High Ground are awful in Team Slayer games. Awful to the point where it has cost me games because one moment, the entire team will switch to spawning behind you inside the base, then once they're dead, they're spawning behind you outside the gate again. It's pretty ridiculous.

Also, in regular Slayer games, it's not uncommon to start the match and get killed within the opening moments because a lot of times you spawn like 10 feet away from someone else in the open.. it happens a lot in the garage inside the base.

I actually love the spawns on normal Slayer, it really helps you keep aware of your surroundings. I love how you basically develop spidey senses for where people respawn.

As for the PTT thing, I'd love to write a Gamasutra scale article for you guys explaining the whys and hows, but I don't think it'd do much good (internet arguments, lawl.)
I would love to read that, actually. Gamasutra is a great site.

Sorry Kaiuss, it may be that you're encountering a different problem that is unknown to me. I wish I could help you out, but I just make coffee and park cars here.

If the problem persists later this evening, when other people are getting in (it could be that you're trying to get rolling during a period where we know the servers are having a difficult time), I really do encourage you to give XBox Support a call. They should be able to help you figure out if it's a bad download, a hardware problem, or if it really is just a bonafide error in the game client. Better than I can, at least.

man, it's been a while since i've gotten into a straight-up multiplayer shooter -- lately i need a hook like the mech customization in chromehounds -- but halo 3 does it for me. i don't know what it is...the weapon balance, the particular amount of damage you can take, the maps, the control feel...but it works. i can't even tell you anything about the graphics or the new gameplay features -- it's all just very halo.

also i won one of the three slayer games i played! and it wasn't even the first one, where half the players couldn't find the fire button! i doubt i won more than three slayer games in all my hours of halo 2 rumble pit!

I dont think anybody in their right mind would say it looks bad, it's just that expectations were so high because it's Halo.

Thanks! There's a big thread on this over at bungie.net, and although I can't claim to know that all the people who have posted there are experiencing this to the same extent that I am, it certainly seems that the "GAME OVER"-thing is a big problem for some people. Some sort of response from a Bungie guy is sorely missed over there... If it's a problem with my console; that's fine, actually. It's the lack of information about an apparent problem that's the most frustrating.

Finally went and bought a copy of Crackdown. Downloaded the beta.

I've only played one map, the graphics weren't so great, but what's great is amazing. AMAZING. The water is OMG I"VE NEVER SEEN WATER LIKE THIS BEFORE.

What's not so great is the lighting (at least on that map, the forest-y one), and the jaggies.

It definitely feels like a beta. My connection choked hardcore, but then again I've only played one game.

Also, I'm using VGA on my computer monitor, and Halo 3 is the only game to have given me problems. I'm using the 1280x1024 widescreen setting, and it looks like a stretched fullscreen game. Nothing else has that issue.

As for Crackdown, maybe I'll put some time into it :lol :lol

How can anyone argue that that doesn't look nice!? The game looks fine and plays smooth as silk online. What more could you ask for?
yo real talk

the game looks good.

but TAPOUTS off-TV grabs mask and hide every graphical flaw in the game.

shots taken off tvs are absolutely no way to measure the graphical fidelity of the game.

his camera adds like 4xAA to like every shot lol

Has anyone noticed if in Team King there is multiplier scoring when you have multiple people in the hill? I'm not sure if it is a decent gambit to launch my soon to be corpse onto the heap if a teammate is already accumulating points.

Joke Post? What would you rather have bullshots or pics of the game running off the TV?

Just played my first ~5 beta matches, and I must say I'm impressed. Gamepla

+ Slightly slower movement
I thought H2's player movement was way too fast, looked goofy

+ Auto-aim Lite
Thank god. In Halo 2 it was magnetic, i nthis game it's reasonably implemented

+ Audio
Very well done, and there's a lot of attention to little details

I'm enjoying it MUCH more than H2's MP, that's for sure.

Anyways I want to see my stats but bungie.net is just listing my first few games, how often does the site update?

Have you ever played a team-based multiplayer game over Xbox Live that wasn't Halo 2 or 3? They tend to have this nice feature where if you talk (EVEN WITHOUT PRESSING A BUTTON BEFOREHAND,) your entire team can hear you, regardless of where you are on the map!

Problem with having an open channel is that people tend to give vague orders and discriptions. I get this a lot during RS:V. I'll hear things like "watch your right," or "there's someone behind you", or "enemy coming up the stairs." Having a system like Halo's allows small groups within a team to act independantly from one another. That helps prevent confusion and allows for a more tactical effort by the team. Also, how many times have you played a match where everyone is talking at the speed of light, all at the same time(and yelling/screaming into the mic)? Really gets disorientating and annoying.

More impressions...Can't remember what I posted earlier so I'll post everything on my mind.

Weapons
- The Assault Rifle is tuned perfectly. Always gives you a fair chance.
- The Shotgun is balanced well and improved over Halo 2, but isn't overpowered
- The Spartan Laser is really fun to use.
- The Spikers are definitely fun to use and tuned pretty well
- The turret has a bit too much range when dismounted
- The Missile Pod is pretty underwhelming
- The Brute Shot is still kind of worthless. 6 shots per clip is better, but it doesn't bounce like it used to which makes it kind of boring.
- More than anything nearly all the weapons are FUN to use which is always important

Modes
- Land Grab is a change of pace, and an appreciated one. I like it.
- The changes made to Territories are definitely good changes
- VIP is kind of odd. They tried Juggernaut in Halo 2 and it was never really popular. VIP in Halo 3 is all right, but it doesn't belong in Matchmaking on Valhallia.
- In the final game there should be a playlist that includes game types such as Shotguns, Swords, Snipers, Lasers, Rockets, etc. They never came up in Halo 2 online yet they were very fun and frantic games. Make it an unranked playlist that's just a place to go to have some fun.

Maps
- Valhallia or however you spell it...Good. Good balance of vehicles and the man cannon really makes navigating this large map relatively easy and not a drag.
- High Ground. A very well designed map. No complaints.
- Snowbound. Will be very good for Slayer games and other game varients fit for a small map.

All in all I think Bungie has put a lot of thought into Halo 3 in the weapon balance, maps, fun factor, and all in all it's shaping up to end the series with a definite bang. Going out on top baby. Can't wait for September. And now...Back to the beta!

I've enjoyed using most of the weapons, but I've eally avoided using the shitgun. It takes far too long between shots and by the time you shoot a second shot, someone can mow you down with the Battle Rifle. I've avoided SMGs as well since they don't work nearly as well as the Brute Shot, which you can readily find.

Yes! I downlaoded the beta before work. Just got home, loaded it up and BANG! RED RING OF DEATH(again). Guess things just break huh? Thanks M$:D

His camera is doing the same thing to the Halo 2 shots too, surely it's a fair comparison under identical conditions?

Edit: unless you're not saying the comparison isn't fair...

Ugh, my internet connection is just terrible.

It was terrible playing Gears, and I'm having a hard time using the rifle due to delay. Woe is me. :'(
