stupidly so. when you're holding it inside in High Ground you're basically fighting in a small ring, unable to see outAtomicShroom said:I second this motion. It's too opaque.
GhaleonEB said:I think that is a very deliberate design decision; it's actually one of my favorite changes. It makes the battle inside the ring feel like a separate arena, and adds an element of risk for those outside as you can't see perfectly to the fight within. Crazy King on Valhalla is supremely awesome fun.
Side note: I love the little "hill" generators on the ground. You can see the scattered all over the level, so at least you know the possible hill locations from them. It's nice touch.

Helps show which team has control of the hill.Truelize said:Yeah I really like that you feel a little clastrophobic when you are inside the hill, but I really, really don't like how the hill changes to blue if your own team has and red if the other team has it. If they are not gonna have it switch to the colour of the team that is in control then make it red and green or something (go/stop). Cause the way it is now makes zero sense.

I hate that ring. Make the ring simple and transparent like Annex in Gears of War. If you drop a bubble shield in that ring you can't see shit even more. The only modes i like right now are Team Slayer, CTF and Territories (on Valhalla). Snowbound and High Ground are too small for Territories.maynerd said:I agree with it being deliberate. I guess it just feels a little more one sided for the team holding the hill since if you are in the hill you can't really see out of it. You don't know when people are coming and they can just shoot from a far distance and blow you away.
I do like the idea of it being shield style with an open top so people can toss grenades but can't shoot you directly...that might be cool.
Klocker said:yea, I like it.
also, it is a bit easier to see in than it is to see out so I think attackers have a slight advantage
maynerd said:I believe the colors match the color of the team holding the hill. I could be wrong about that though but I'm pretty sure.
maynerd said:Vision wise it maybe slightly easier to see in than out but as the hill holder you are in a much more vulnurable position. I think I'd be more for being able to see out but not be able to see in.
Similar thing with the VIP - the icon over the head of the enemy VIP is the same color as the team you are on. I was on Red and thought the red indicator meant he was my team's VIP. I died several times by walking up to him to protect him (underground the overshield obscures their armor color, plus I'm red/green colorblind).Truelize said:Yeah I really like that you feel a little clastrophobic when you are inside the hill, but I really, really don't like how the hill changes to blue if your own team has and red if the other team has it. Truelize said:Yeah it's odd when you are underground and everyone just looks dark green. That has screwed me up quite a bit.
"Wait a minute you were just red. How did you change colours?" :lol
Truelize said:They don't. When your team has the hill the hill is blue. When the other team has the hill it is red. But if you are on the red team and your running up the hill and see red you will assume your team has it. But they don't
Come on JdFoX187 you have to agree with me on that.

Not really. In the heat of battle, I usually don't pay much attention to what's what. I see my guys in the hill, I know we're taking it. I usually don't even bother with the hill, I just try to keep the other guys out of it. But I can see where that can cause some confusion for people.Truelize said:They don't. urk said:It adds protections and vulnerabilities for both teams. It's more difficult to strike from in or out of the hills at long range, so the fight is going to happen at close quarters much more often.

At one point I helped him take out my own team (Betrayal! Betrayal!), only to have him turn around a plug me with the shotty. Where's the gratitude?!maynerd said:I didn't notice that either! WTF!

ferrex said:As for the PTT [push to talk] thing, I'd love to write a Gamasutra scale article for you guys explaining the whys and hows, but I don't think it'd do much good (internet arguments, lawl.)
I will offer this, though: it's a very deliberate decision, factors heavily into Halo's solid network performance (which I think is a tradeoff most people appreciate, even if they don't realize it), and we are still carefully considering situations where we might enable open channel voice when network performance permits it (smaller team games, for example.) And that said, I'm disengaging from that discussion, it's much too acrimonious right now.
Cheers.

how often does the trip mine respawn?GDJustin said:I had the most awesome team slayer match-up on Valhalla last night. All I would do is spawn, grab a trip-mine and dual SMGs, then man-cannon my way to the center with guns blazing.
I laid trip-mines EVERYWHERE. I was basically shouting at my team the whole time - "THERE'S A TRIP-MINE OVER IN THE RIGHT TREES. THERE'S A TRIP-MINE ON THE TOP OF THE BIG HILL, AND ANOTHER ON THE LEFTHAND SIDE OF THE FAR BASE" :lol :lol :lol etc etc etc.
I think I ended up losing like 5 points from betrayals but I still led my team in points at the end.
The BEST though was when I laid this mine, then promptly died. So I'm watching the action by my corpse, and an enemy-filled hog stops RIGHT beside the mine, not tripping it. So a mongoose with MY teammates comes barreling in and sets off the mine, blowing up both vehicles. I killed 5 of the 7 other players in the game with that one mine :lol :lol :lol
I hope you were smart enough to save that film and upload it to your file share...GDJustin said:I had the most awesome team slayer match-up on Valhalla last night. All I would do is spawn, grab a trip-mine and dual SMGs, then man-cannon my way to the center with guns blazing.
