The Halo 3 Beta Thread

At work, all day long, all i've been hearing is is complaints about the graphics.

Oh, and the gimped RL.

guess its time for bungie to add more Shine and sparks :lol

i think the game looks great the way it is, especially considering it'll be 4 player split screen in the final.

Rocket Launcher, maybe?

I see.

I only ever really used them in a few Rockets matches and they seemed pretty good to me.

As far as the graphics go, I don't know what to say to that. I think Snowbound especially looks phenomenal. The only problem I see really is the textures on some of the grass and rocky areas seem a little bland. Other than that, the geometry detail and lighting as awesome.

I hope such misgivings don't have an impact on sales. Of Halo 3.

Alright, anyone care to explain to me what RP actually means and how to raise the skill point?
RP=Experience points ie How long you've been playing. If you want to raise it, just play more.

Nah we just wanted you in the match :)
Sure it is.

As I said then, they were the ones who invited me in the first place. Which was the reason I signed on. So if there wasn't enough space for all, I didn't just want to abandon them.

Plus, Snake would cry. :(

All my bad feedback has been from people from the other team or something in many games, it's such a broken system but I supose no matter how you do it people will find a way to abuse it.

There are only around 500-700,000 people on the Beta, so I really don't think the opinions of people on it will affect sales too much. And the rocket launcher isn't gimped except for the lock-on which I think is great. The Assault Rifle helps take out vehicles a lot easier than the SMG or BR could in Halo 2. I think the vehicles are used more predominately but still have plenty of counters with the rocket
if you can aim
, spartan laser
if you can aim
, missile pod and mines.

What about highest skill?

Also, it seems like the army-ranks are influenced by the total amount of games you play, combined with your k/d ratio. The number-rank is only for that particular gametype (rumble pit, team slayer etc), right?

While I don't think it looks like utter shit, I sort of agree with some things they mentioned. I told them not to compare it to GoW, but then one friend mentioned to just look at UT3 for a reference point, and I found it hard to disagree with.

Its not that the game looks technically bad, it just looks almost exactly like Halo 2 in the level design.

Your RP goes up so much for each game. When you win, you automatically get an RP point. The numbered ranks are per each playlist.

Weird. I wonder if GoW 2 will look anything like its predecessor. ;)

Where do you work? I listen to recaps of Dancing With The Stars all day. I would love to have these conversations.

We have seen these kinds of levels before. Valhalla is similar to Blood Gulch/Coagulation. High Ground is similar to Zanzibar. Snowbound is....scratch that one.

But there's no comparison in the visual fidelity, despite the similar locations and art style. TAPOUT's comparisons:

I dunno. Halo 3 MP looks just like what I hoped it would. I do hope we see some very differnt kinds of environments in the final game, and some radical new map designs. But what we have is pretty solid, and very polished.

Why are people complaining about the level design of Halo 3 compared to Halo 2? We've only seen three maps. Halo 2 shipped with 12. I wouldn't be surprised to see Halo 3 ship with 12-15. Wait until we see the others before we start complaining about level design.

Some things they need to change(probably has been mentioned already):

1) The firing rate of the human snipe has to be increased. It is a power weapon for a reason.

2) Needler seems too powerful.

3) It's way too hard to see when getting shot.

4) I want BXB, BXR, and YY back :lol

It's perfect now. You actually have to aim instead of spamming shots hoping to get lucky.

2) Needler seems too powerful.
It's still only good in fairly close range. Needles are easy to dodge.

3) It's way too hard to see when getting shot.
The flashes aren't that bad. If anything, it adds to the frantic nature of the game.

4) I want BXB, BXR, and YY back :lol
No...hell no...just no.

Huh? Just checked my Rep, it says that 66% preferred or did not submit review and 34% avoided me. Is that the default if no reviews are in? Also, all other figures are 0% but I have 50% for unsporting behaviour. Is this that people get irritated that I'm not a great player or what? I always try to play a team game and aside the occasional RL / grenade betrayals I can't think of any reason to call me unsporting.

My gamer rep was around 90 percent, now it's down to 68 percent. That's just from the 70-ish games I've played. And I hardly talk anything and don't teabag unless it's with buddies or I get teabagged first.

I'm counting my blessings as so far I haven't gotten a single negative feedback from Halo 3 play, and actually got a fair number of positives. I have been playing with a full party of friends most of the time on my side, so I'm not sure if that's skewed things or not - the matchups with random people so far has produced only a handful of griefers and morons. My group was just commenting last night how so far, most people were bizarrely well-behaved for Halo online :lol

I disagree with everything you just said.

1-They slowed it down from H 1/2's firing rate for a reason. It's fine where it is, but I would've slowed it down even further. They should've done the same with the Beam Rifle however, 'cause it's too good now. Same thing with the Carbine/Battle Rifle. They were relatively even before with the Carbine being slightly better. Now the Carbine is much better than the BR.

2-It's also shit from long distance. Even more so if the target is strafing, so it balances out. That's almost like saying that the Shotgun it too powerful up close. Or the Snipers are too good at killing people from far away.

3-Eh? Nah.

4-Hopefully the ":lol" means you're joking. Either way, hell no.

People are crazy and childishly petty - one time I got the "unsporting" feedback from a game of Ridge Racer 6 and for what? The guy who left it and was pissed off at me during the race, *kept slamming into my ass* by hitting nitro when he was right up behind me, as if he thought it would just knock my car out of the way. If anything /he was griefing me/, not the other way around. Though of course, such convenient little boosts just helped me win...

Cheating
People are using Zone alarm to drop you from the game. I've played games where people on the other team were saying they found out how to force host and use zone alarm to cheat. The host connects his 360 via ICS then one by one limits how much upload each person from the other team gets.

I really hope Bungie can some how over come this, but I'm starting to fear that even in the final game we will see it pop up due to the P2P nature of the game. :(
I've passed your note along to the network engineers, so that they're aware of it. My understanding, though, is that this is addressed by giving the exploiting player a progressively worse host rating, so that he ends up where even a guy on a 28.8 modem would be chosen as host before him. It's sort of a waste of a nice fat connection. He won't be able to find games if he restricts his connection, either. Too bad, so sad.

It does take some time, though. Some of our systems (like skill based matching, host selection, etc) learn over time. The trick is keeping them from becoming self aware and initiating Judgement Day, but we're pretty sure we have that in hand.

I played halo2 online for about 1 hour in total never really got into it, i prefer tactical shooter like rainbow six but i have to say ive already played the halo3 beta for at least ten hours, im loving it!

I never thought having 4 a side would seem like more than enough people but it does:) , i never realised how many game types there were but it definitely suprised me..

Cemented my decision to buy the game day one.

100 percent is the default if nobody has reviewed you. Then it'll go down if somebody leaves bad feedback and back up if they prefer you.

Posting from a friend's*, so I'm not home at the moment. I'll be home in a few hours, so we can try to set something up then.

The rocket has undergone some major, major changes. It's a lot different than the Halo 2 rockets.

Splash damage seems reduced, lock on (of course) is gone and I think there is now an added delay. It has definately been gimped, majorly. But I think it's better balanced right now, it was way too powerful in Halo 2.

So glad rockets have been nerfed. Cheapest weapon known to man in foundation.

You actually have to aim it now!

Annoying though, when I've played rockets (3 times) the lag has always been awful, and I've came near the bottom all three times. Bah. =(

How do you play 1 on 1?

I think set up a skirmish training with a cap of 2 people and then set it to only invite as well

Im not sure though I havent tried but I think this will work

I know what bungie *says* about RP, but in this beta, it goes up 1 when you win a ranked match.

I haven't seen it move as a result of anything else.
