The Halo 3 Beta Thread

100 percent is the default if nobody has reviewed you. Then it'll go down if somebody leaves bad feedback and back up if they prefer you.

So wait, this means that if I've now played, say, 100 games of Halo 3, I've played against aroud 700 playes. If 66% of them have not reviewed me or have given positive feedback, that means that 34% of them have said that they want to avoid me, that's 231 people who find me unsporting. I must be horrible to play with

I know what bungie *says* about RP, but in this beta, it goes up 1 when you win a ranked match.

I haven't seen it move as a result of anything else.

It goes up 1 when you win any match, ranked or social. You can also finish second and sometimes even third in Rumble Pit and gain a point.

That's just noticeable when it goes up. It goes up with a win in anything. Hell, I've been playing a lot of Rumble Training games and it goes up with each of those that I win
all of them
But if you just continued to lose game after game after game, you'd eventually see your RP go up.

I don't know how Xbox LIVE factors in the percentage things. I once had my reputation go down 5 percent in one Gears of War match. I think only one person left me feedback as well.

:lol

Maybe you're just annoyingly good at the game.

Will anyone else be upset isn't a remake of Lockout for Halo 3?

I know I will, I love that level!
Lockout is my favorite from H2 just because it's close quarters and has multiple levels. :(

Rockets most-definitely are slower - the first couple game of Rockets I had were a bitch to play - until I finally got used to them...

It's like you have to aim way ahead of someone to kill them now... and without lock-on (atleast not for ground vehicles), it's not really a weapon I will go to often, other than making sure the other team doesn't get it, or it's a level with lots of structures/walls for the splash damage...

I'm pretty positive that it's not in, as it's been a week now, and I haven't seen it turn up even once...

It's awesome for High Ground--make sure to pick up on those games.

I'm still new to XBL and I'd only really started using the service with the beta. How can I check if and how others have rated me?

I'm doing this from memory at the moment seeing as I'm not at my 360. You go on your dashboard and go to your gamercard at the top of the screen. Press "A" on that and it'll pull a tab across and it'll say something like "View Reputation" or something like that.

Thanks. 22 matches and no reviews. Being cannon fodder pays off I suppose.

Well, I'm usually either too far to use the rockets with it's delay, or in close combat, but the majority of my rocket kills have been on people not paying attention on the Laser tower, or helping someone win a standoff...

I've only gotten to like using it just a few hours ago, thanks to it showing up often today in Rumble Pit - when I finally got the hang of it, I won the match!

Woohoo!

Got my first killing frenzy...then the host quit...but it got counted anyway!

Kudos to Bungie, I expected it to be lost.

I think the laser is the most important weapon on High Ground. I usually end up getting my hands on it at some point or another in every round, whether on offense or defense. When I do, look out :lol

This guy I play with always seems to be right next to somebody when I fire it off too :lol I haven't betrayed him yet, but he keeps saying he needs to change his diaper in his armor :lol

Anyone else feel that the grenades are very very underpowered?

I think they're actually weaker than Halo 2. I don't think grenades should be one explosion kill. But they could at least lower the shields all the way like in Halo 2.

Bungie counts stats like crazy. You can literally check your stats a minute after the game has ended and the match statistics will already be posted. It's amazing.

Me. I always seem to get killed by them, but I can't kill anyone else with them. I mean, someone could stand on top of my grenade and leave with just a couple of scratches.

Agreed, the blast radius should be a bit bigger, but maybe not as big as Halo 1's...

i like the spike grenades, but sometimes they take too long to explode.

Now we can actually play king of the hill without worring about being blown up after one second of standing in the ring

It was like that at the beginning of Halo 2. But as time went on and more people got on the game, the stats got delayed quite a bit some times. They might have fixed that, but I wouldn't be surprised if our stats don't slow down in the final game.

Totally agree.

I get that weapon, and honestly, I probably got a 90% shot/kill ratio with that thing. It's so damn easy to use. Of course, you can definately avoid it...but if you catch somone off guard, they die.

that's the only weapon i can not find on that level. where the heck is it spawning at?

Well, if you stand at the minigun facing out of the base, turn right and it's up the stairs in a little tower. It's the highest point on the map I think.

why does nobody like the snow level?

everytime we start a game in the snowlevel they want to veto, but i never do because i love the snow level
It's Snowbound.

Probably because the spawns are so horrible on there. And it's so easy to be a n00b on Oddball. The shield doors are a very novel idea, but they can be abused easily.

Is anybody else using Legacy inverted controls, or has everyone switched to default? I'm curious about the breakdown these days as we move further and further away from GE/PD.

I'm using the standard controls. They work great, a lot better than the old controls.

In my experience I haven't had any problems with the spawns on Snowbound. Highground however, I really, really hate for team slayer because of spawns.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure Bungie intended the shield doors to be abused :)

it took me awhile to adjust to the new controls but they are very good, I use 100 percent defaults aside from inverted (I use inverted)

Still halo 3 is just so much more fun then halo 2 right now.. I tried to go back to halo 2 recently after not playing since before 360 launch and it's just so terrible, halo 3 will hopefully remain what it is.

Snowbound's my favorite level. I don't like Valhalla. Doesn't suit my style of play and getting sniped from the other side of the map isn't fun :p

I don't really like Valhalla, it reminds me of Coag. Way too big for 4v4

I'm not using the headset mic. By default without the headset in game are you not going to hear chat? I've never heard anyone talk during a game, only in the setup screens. I actually like that i'm not hearing random chatter and I'm also glad that I'm not hearing the headset as my blue streak swearing when things go bad would not be in good taste for others ears :)

Yep. Every game I've had since last Friday has been great, no quitters, no racist pricks, and I've actually added a couple of new people to my friends list after some fun rumbles. I have no illusions that it'll last, but I'm enjoying myself in non-GAF Live gaming for the first time in a long time. Kudos to the community.
I have to disagree. I played with two of the worst people I've ever met on live.
They spent the whole match getting owned while telling me and my party member that we suck. They were annoying as hell and even invited us to their party after the match to cuss at us.

I accepted and shouted them down, repeating the point that they had a negative K/D split over and over until I was kicked.

I used to use Legacy all the time in Halo and Halo 2, but Condemned forced me to change to the default console FPS controls since it didn't let you change the movement for the sticks. Still use inverted however, and the new controls helped me use the Banshee more effectively in Halo 2 as it was a chore to roll sideways with Legacy controls.

I used to hate Snowbound but it has grown on me, especially if you use the power drainer well.

Why didn't you just mute them?

So any tips on how to use the laser? It takes a long time to load up so it seems most people walk with the laser kind of nearly loaded, tapping the R trigger. When they redline me, it seems like a threat of imminent violence, when I redline them, it's like a sign above my head "I'm here guys please come kill me I don't know how to use this thing" and that's what usually happens
