The Halo 3 Beta Thread

Nope - Crackdown is required if that is the way you got in.

I didn't realise the power drainer killed people. Or maybe the weapon doing the majority of the damage get the kill.

Has anyone tried the tip with the grav lift on match startup. When a vehicle is coming at you, drop the grav lift and watch it fly over you. That sounds fun!

It blows up once its used up

Anyways a few time recently and I'll be playing and the game stops, screen goes black, the scores pop up and "uploading" pops up, what's that about

It blows up after it's depleted. So if you're in the blast radius, you're gone.

The power drainer sends a little shockwave out at the end of its life. I've seen dead bodies go flying from it.
 
I wish I woulda saved this grenade kill a minute ago, someone was crouching and had no shields, I threw a spike under them and their body just shot straight into the air :lol

that's usually when the host drops out i believe.

I suppose I could just gut the OP and keep the gamertag listing, but we'd need mod support to change the thread title.

Not going to happen. Also, making a new thread would mean that Halo 3 would have the first and second largest threads in GAF history.

And the blast radius is quite large. In addition, the debis from the explosion is an actual flying object that does damage. I killed somoeone with a fusion core the other night, but not the explosion - half of the core that blew off nailed him in the face. Blunt force trauma, gotta love it.
 
Is anyone else unable to save any more games to their HD? I still have plenty of space so that isn't the reason why, and I don't have that many saved (only like 8).
 
The idiots are back in full force guys. I got called a ni**er today by 3 different players.

And I owned Kramer in one game of CTF today.
 
I'm getting better. Kill ratio up to .61, up from ~.50 at the beginning.

m0dus and I teamed up with a couple others who insisted on using teamwork, squad tactics and constant communication about enemy locations. I dunno what the hell they were thinking but it seemed to work.

We destroyed those poor guys - they thought splitting into pairs or individuals when on offense was a grand idea.

I love the new Territories. Every single game has been awesome.

Potentially hot lady, so I had to look her up. What other roles has she had? Nothing interesting until. . . Miranda Keys, Halo 2.

I saw that as well. I looked her up because I thought the name was familiar. And sure enough, there she was. Too bad she's not going to be back for Halo 3 though.

Well she is a main character on Dexter which is a pretty awesome show.

she was replaced in Halo 3 tho, someone else will be voicing Miranda Keyes now

I should have softened that comment, a bit ;) Nothing interesting, to me. But I'm waaayyyy behind on what's good on TV. When Halo 3 launches, I'll just continue to fall out of touch with TV and movies. When you only have a couple of hours a night to yourself, a few good pieces of entertainment can fill you up for months!
 
There has been lots of discussion of how this game really looks. Blurry pictures. Compressed-to-hell pictures. Great pictures shot from TV. Bullshots.

I was very surprised to find an actual screenshot of the game from Bungie's site along all the bullshots. This comes with HUD, jaggies and everything you'll see on a TV with a good enough connection and reproduction. I'm pretty sure this is the only 'real' screenshot released of Halo 3.

So, judge yourself.

I've passed the 50 game mark now and i'm liking it even more as i go :)

Combat Stats Games: 57
Total Kills: 516
Total Deaths: 568
Kill/Death Ratio: 0.9085
Total Assists: 220

I'm pleased with that, i thought i'd be doing worse than this so..:P

Won my first solo slayer match today too, i saved and uploaded it, though i don't know who i expect will be watching it :lol

One Q, is there normally a regular 2 flag CTF gametype in halp mp? 1 flag is a cool mode but i want some proper ctf ^^

Also, any tips on grenade use? I'm still pretty bad at using them, i tend to just miss and get killed when i try to throw one.

That's probably the most representative shot of how the game currently looks. That said, the HUD isn't 'rounded', which begs the question of whether it'll be a settings option or the pic is just old.

Same here. Every game I've played has been great, and filled with tension. I'm not sure what's up with the haters, but it's much better now.

In some ways it seems like it does, considering the amount of stuff happening on screen, etc (we've all heard the arguments). But Gears still has the edge easily IMO. Also, the beta has some framerate hiccups in many places I've noticed.

If Bungie can smooth out the framerate and add at least 2 times AA, and some AF would be nice too, then it would compare much better. I expect them to do as much by product launch.

I am going to rent Crackdown soon to play this beta. Since games are ranked matches that means I won't be able to choose who I play with right?

Lovin the shit out of Halo 3 so far. Bungie really know how to nail the fun factor with these games.

Still not happy with the jaggies though. Can anyone confirm if the final game will have FSAA?
 
man i hate playing by myself in multi games, especially in halo. Every game I've joined has been filled with dickheads and it seems everyone on my friends list with the game is a jerk as well. Going to have to do some house cleaning on my friends list it seems.
