The Halo 3 Beta Thread

Reading the (HUGE!) update now, but this just jumped at me:

TripleTerror: Is there any possibility that beta testers will get a special gamerpic or a background on our name bar in the game, like bungie.net was in Halo 2. A few people including myself would really like to see this.

A: Anything is possible. There will certainly be benefits to players who sign up for a Bnet account and link their Gamertag.

I've signed up at bungie.net, but I don't have the "bungie.net" in the background of my gamertag in Halo 2 or 3. How do I link it? My searches are useless. I suddenly feel it is important to do so.

Daggart: Why can't I point the nose down with the Banshee?

A: It’s a tuning thing that we’re still experimenting with. On Valhalla for example, the Banshee when it did point straight down, was a horrible killing machine. Anyone remember the Banshee on Ascension?

I thought the majority of the questions were pretty self explanatory if you used a little common sense. It was obvious that the Banshee was made that way so it wasn't the overpowered garbage it was in Halo 2, he even mentions Ascension like I did :P

Yup, I just found it through bungie.net's HUGE (and up to date) FAQ. I had mistaken linking my gamertag with the in-game identifier. I had the former, but not the latter. Thanks!

6.7 Bungie.net In-Game Identifier

As a Bungie.net member, you have the option of having a special "Bungie.net" logo appear next to your name in the pre-game lobby screens of Halo 2 on Xbox Live. You can enable or disable this at any time by visiting your “Player Hub” page and then selecting Profile Customization, and then Personal Information. Select the radio button where it says "Show Status in Halo 2." You obviously have to have an active account in order to take advantage of this feature. Represent Bnet and let everyone know that you're a member of our site!

The idea of Double Team being added is exciting me, but what's worrying me is that my Halo 3 is freezing more and more often it seems. I wonder if it's my 360 dying...
 
I'm pretty sure it's the 360 and not the Beta, I had the same problem a few weeks back, took that 360 back and got a new one and haven't froze up once since.
 
: Why on Earth can’t you run over people in the Mongoose??? It’s a freaking ATV...if you run someone over in an ATV you’re going to do damage or kill someone, so why can't you run people over in the mongoose in the beta? Are you going to be able to run over people in the real game?
A: You need to drive faster, or straighter, or both. I splatter people with the Mongoose all the time. As will half the people in the discuss this forum link.

I have played 195 games and have never got a splatter in the Mongoose. I've hit plenty of people, but never get splatters. They just bounce off and fly 20 feet away, somehow survive, and then go on to kill me.

It's also almost impossible to get splatters in the warthog. Last night I was gunning in the hog and my friend hit a guy going close to full speed and he just bounced off. I then littered his body with bullets but still; the hog should have splattered him.

From my experience to Ghost is nearly identical. It still seems to be a very effective for getting splatters. The Banshee actually seems easier to get splatters with, as I get them much easier than I did in Halo 2.

Basically what I’m saying is fix the splatters on the Mongoose and Warthog and leave the Ghost and the Banshee the way they are now. Do it for the children.

It does seem a lot harder to get splatters (that's a good thing though IMO). I've gotten one splatter in the mongoose so I know it can be done.

Was going full speed from defense base in High Ground to the beach area (flag capture point) and I ran over a guy who was facing the other way. That was my only splatter out of like 100+ games though.
 
I'm getting the Legendary edition most likely, but I haven't pre-ordered it yet.

I'm not sure where to preorder from, waiting to see gives out has the most goodies. But then again, I'll probably end up preordering fro Gamestop cause they'll likely open at midnight again. Is the pre-sell kit a Walmart exclusive?

From what I hear... Not on the US site though. The OP on HBO was from Vancouver...

Hope it comes to the States.

It seems that everytime I preorder something from EB/GS they say I can pick it up a day later.

Do things change with Halo?

Also do they tell you when they've exceeded numbers of Pre-orders? So I don't pay it off, and not get it until 2nd/3rd Shipment?

I got my Legendary Edition reserved the day before the beta released. I was planning on getting the normal CE but saw the pics of the helmet and couldn't resist. Damn you, Bungie, for abusing hopeless and loyal Halo fans who will spend 130$ on your game :(
 
Is the helmet the only thing that seperates the Legendary and Limited Edition or w/e the 2nd one is? I could do without the helmet, but I want all of the behind the scenes DVDs.

I think there is some content in the Limited Edition that's not packed in with the Legendary set, but Bungie is going to make it available somehow.

Saved Films don't, but I dunno about stats. Maybe it's different because they're stored online?

Pfft.. what good are online FPS without cannon fodder.

My ratio hasn't dropped below 2.1 since the Beta's release.. and it would've been higher (started at 3-ish) if I didn't start playing team games and have to sacrifice myself for bs like securing territories/bomb arming/protecting VIPs etc.

I dunno, I'm a 27 in skirmish now I think - either 27 or 26. Its funny though because I started out today as a 20 or 21 and only played like 5 games, and I was playing much worse than I normally do (even though we won most of them) - but it still brought me up to 27.
