The Halo 3 Beta Thread

Spoilers below somewhat...

Anybody disappointed by the amount of levels? There's only what, six or seven there?

It depends on how you look at it.

Personally, I thought Halo 2 had too many levels. Not that there can be too much of a good thing, but many of the early Arbiter levels should have been cut for being so poor, bringing the whole game down (one of the many problems with the game).

No guarantee with Halo 3, but assuming they didn't waste time like crazy like they did with Halo 2, they can actually afford to trim the fat.

Man, he gets a bad rap, but I loved the Arbiter. I actually prefered his levels to most of MC's. I'd be a little disappointed if we didn't get to play as him in the 3rd. His motivation is unique and his story arc is interesting. The worst part of H2 are the Brutes. As cool as they are, playing against them just isn't much fun.

i liked fighting brutes -- particularly shooting their little helmets off with the br or carbine -- but i hope halo 3 isn't focused on fighting brutes. presumably the elites and grunts and hunters are going to rejoin the covenant. or that rebellion wasn't as widespread as it seemed. or they'll find some other excuse to let us shoot 7 foot blue freaks who say 'wort'; i really don't care.

The problem is not the Arbiter, it's all the gas giant and machine (those where you fight machines and the flood) levels he's stuck in. After he leaves the damned place, the game picks up again.

Uprising is one of my favorite levels in the game.

Awesome achievement get! ;)

That got me thinking, though. What are the odds that H3 will ship with less than 1k points? I'm not inferring that this will be the case from placeholder. I'm just wondering if maybe Crackdown will start a new trend.

Argh, does melee really frustrate anyone else? It's driving me crazy lately. Time after time i'll be in a fight with someone and go to melee for the kill, and i'll die instead to a melee, even though i don't see their melee animation on my screen (or are you just not supposed to?) or i can see & hear that they are still shooting their gun, and this is seriously 80% of the time. And this happens even when i know i'm not lagging.

Am i just doing it wrong, because at the mo it feels like it is broken to me ;(

Also, just got my first overkill, yay :D It was with the odball, but still ^^

And i finally bought me a hdtv today, picking it up tomorrow morning, it's the Samsung LE40M86BD 40" 1080p lcd, i cannot ****ing wait to try the beta on it! :)

i hate when im fighting somebody, ill drain their shields, and theyll drain mine. then ill try to be the first to punch, and ill hear my punch connect. but then its like nothing happens for a second, and then they melee me and i die.

i know i was the first to punch, but i guess lag messes it up. its very frustrating.

After playing about 5 hours total throughout the day I just signed on and my 360 froze 3 times, and I got one dirty disc error. Really pissing me off. Had won 3 matches in a row, needed a few more RP to rank up, and now I lost like four from the 360 errors. What the ****.

Having my first really bad day playing the game.........I'm probably -50.

Its just one of those days where I'm always in the wrong place at the wrong time and I'm losing practically every one-on-one fire fight.

I should have rephrased that. With that few amount of levels, I'm really questioning the game's length. I loved Halo 2, but it was way too short. I was expecting Halo 3 to at least be 12-14 hours.

I doubt they'll repeat their mistakes.

my day today was the same. i was in an odd ball match and spawned and would die before i could take 2 steps. either sniped or a rocket or grenade or anything.

i was able to get the ball once for 3 seconds. the rest of the match i was dead before even looking around.

when it goes like that i just turn it off for awhile before i get all pissed and loose the fun out of it.

I really don't care how long the SP is, as long as they can recapture the magic of the first, and by doing that all they have to is have fair A.I. on Legendary. I replayed Halo 1 so many times, I think I've completed Halo 2 twice just because the Legendary A.I. (namely snipers) was complete bullshit compared to the first.

Anyone know how long Halo CE was and if it was longer than Halo 2? I really can't remember.

I'd say it's about the same. But it depends.

The problem is Halo 2's Legendary setting is really unbalanced. The first level is a pain to get through at some points and after it's over, it's smooth sailing until the end, save for a few snipers here and there.

I think Halo: CE's is longer and it has fewer levels.

It seems Halo 3 is following the same trait, which isn't bad one bit, especially with Frankie mentioning in an update a while ago about having big levels where players may explore.

Also, I hate how Halo 2 legendary you have to go to the last checkpoint every time either of you die. Legendary in Halo 1 was fun to play through co-op while Legendary Halo 2 seems like a horrid chore. If they want to do the no-respawn thing, make it an option, or make some other difficulty harder than legendary or SOMETHING.

The levels listed can be matched to this picture from the vidoc.

And obviously, the links contain POSSIBLE Level Names, so if you don't want to be spoiled....

Meh I don't like those achievements very much. I was hoping Bungie would be a lot more creative with them.

The 5 kills with ___ weapon ones suck. A lot better then Gears ones but still annoying. Everyone is gonna be hogging the sniper/needler/stickys etc just so they could get their achievement. I don't even see how getting just 5 kills with something is an achievement anyway...

A lot of the other ones are already medals, and should stay that way IMO. You could get just about every mp achievement within a day of playing.

That's how it should be, at least on Legendary.

Yeah, I hope that it's a red herring

At the very least, I hope Frankie and Luke are seeing this thread and will realize five kills with a needler is not an interesting/compelling/fun/remotely-good-idea-for-an achievement.

5 kills in one game with a Needler, probably.

After having a -66 day, I'm tempted to throw my ****ing Xbox out the window.

I had absolutely zero luck today.......or I just completely suck at these somewhat higher levels. I just didn't think I could possibly be that bad.

I'm really trying to get better with the battle rifle. But, I swear I get killed so much quicker than it takes for me to kill someone else. Anyone with any tips for the battle rifle?

Yeah. That's lame. It's not difficult or interesting or fun to try getting. You could do it in five minutes no matter the stipulations (Ranked Match, etc.).

I was +13 in only 3 games yesterday.

With the BR, the only advice I can give is not to be too liberal with the 2x zoom, and to aim for the head always.

I don't mind, easy achievements that will barely impact the multiplayer is almost as good as no achievements in multiplayer. At least Bungie realized how much Epic ****ed up with Gears.

It's much easier to miss to the head and until the shields are down, it does no more damage than body shots.

Exactly. Having achievements that're easy enough to get in normal gameplay prevents people from hoarding weapons or otherwise going out of their way to do X, while not playing with the team in mind.

It's even better if they can get it in a few games, since things will get back to normal in a hurry.

There has got to be a way to report that name right? How do you do it? Cause that is just freakin sad.
If I recall, reporting gamertags is one of the options in the feedback system.

I've been playing through Halo 2 Campaign because I've never played it before and holy shit Bungie is going to have to ****ing go all out to top a couple of these levels. Also **** the flood. Fuuuuuuuuu*k the flood. I think I'm about halfway through, here's hoping Bungie has forgotten the flood ****ing exist.

Oh and my game seems to have fun randomly deciding to bump map textures. One second it's there, one second it's gone. Very wierd.

Wow. Too bad we can't just get rid of people like that altogether.

Good luck with that.

They'll be a huge part of 3.

the best parts in the game has to do with vehicles. Banshee fight (to the incubus song), the tank on the bridge... Delta Halo with the wraiths and Ghosts

Use grenades. Seriously. First thing you need to get down is throwing your grenades. At the very least, I try to use them to get a 1 for 1 if I know I'm going to lose a fight. This will at least even out your K/D ratio a bit more.

From there, the BR is over-rated. If you insist on using it, try to practice aiming for the head. I'd say knowing when to engage and when to retreat is way more important though. Always open with a grenade when its possible. Try to use it kind of like H2's noob combo. You want a guy with a weak shield when you use the BR. If I were you, I practice sticking with a partner and using the BR at medium range while your friend moves into melee range. Its best when you can use it in a situation where you have the upper hand right away. Don't use it on guys across the map. Sneak in closer or you're just alerting them to your position. You want to get off 2 or 3 shots before they know where you are, ideally.

Ugh, I hated the vehicle parts :P

Any way, I'm also replaying the game right now, I'm on the level with the Heretics, and I'll probably go back and replay Halo CE when I'm done and see what I think (its funny because now that I'm used to playing Halo 3 I keep accidentally trying to press RB to pick up weapons).
