The Halo 3 Beta Thread

Heres a group funtage my friend did using about 5 peoples best moments. Some cool things that make it worth checking out like a spartan laser triple kill by Alpheon.

Im Peaking Legoman in that footage if anyone actually has a look.

Ughh...

Either I'm the worst and unluckiest player ever or my connection always sucks. I like to think it's not the former since I've been gaming for over 25 years and playing FPS on consoles since GoldenEye, but who knows.

I'm so frustrated.

wtf is the point of a lan party if you have kids cheating? i can understand a double shot being done, but not when its programmed into an action replay card or whatever.

thats just stupid, lan parties are about having fun and not showcasing your action replay BS.

That was my gravity lift. I wanted to stop anyone from coming through that door while we were under assault and next thing I knew, Ghaleon was wedged at the top of the ceiling. I laughed and then cried when they struck him down.

He wasn't actually broadcasting the fact that his controller was doing all the work.
 
I want rumble training back! I just played a few rumble pit matches (i usually play team games with friends) and mostly got my ass kicked. It seems i'm losing 70% of the melee battles i get into, and I have no idea why.

the controller is unresponsive or its because the game is beta.

sometimes i'll melee once and then the second melee wont be recognized and the animation wont even appear. other times i can pull off two quick melees fairly easily.

It's a matter of timing, as unhelpful as that is. Get to know how many rounds + melee it takes to put someone down with each weapon. Then get your distance down, you can melee somone before you think you can. The range is deceptive.

So shoot someone until they are a melee away from death and then jump/dodge and take them out. Remember that jumping and head melees are more powerful. I guess this post could be summed up with: practise.

One of the first things I did with Voc and others when the Beta was released was to take a nice close look at the shotgun shell casings. There was an easter egg on them in Halo 1, so I wanted to check if there was in Halo 3. I assumed that what we saw was old news at this point, but apparantly not.

HBO is all excited over spotting it, and to their credit they have some nice pics of the image.

Looks like "8 GA" for "eight gauge", and a hippo under it, and "hippo" on the edge. There was a hippo on the Halo 1 shell as well, nice bit of continuity there. :lol

I been playing halo 2 again lately online and off, sometimes spawning with just one smg is such a huge pain in the arse you just get owned by BR whores :P

Also strangely in the last few days my prefered weapon is the brute shot, I use to always miss with the thing but now the bouncing is so handy, maybe its because the halo 3 beta gave me a taste of a kill with the damn thing :lol
 
hey can anyone recommend a good video capturing software. if you can, nothing to expensive. i just want to take some of great saved games from the halo 3 beta and put them on my pc, for enjoyment later:) also is there an external video capture card i can buy?

Matt Soell at Bungie had a hippo fetish and was responsible for the shotgun shell in the first Halo. He then left Bungie after Halo came out and joined Alex Seropian at Wideload, and was responsible for the logo there.
 
I really wish they would just remove the Plasma Pistol from the game, it's pretty obvious they don't know how to really use it. The tracking is completely random, and it takes a fun game mode (V.I.P.) and completely trivializes it by making it whoever can get a PP first and get lucky with a track...bah!
 
I'm with you on that one, I've always hated it. Just make it not track at all, and maybe make the burst go faster. The tracking is bullshit.
 
Played some more Halo 2. Finished Delta Halo and got back to that damn sexy Arbiter. I'm actually looking forward to seeing the Covenant in HaHOLY SHIT **** THE FLOOD **** THE FLOOD AHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Actually it wasn't that bad after I got my hands on a shotgun. But still, **** THE FLOOD!#%R%EEE I managed to get through the hellish Library intro or whatever it was to this dank field area and BZZZT power went out. And I'm too scared that the checkpoint was lost to log back on. **** THE FLOODDDDDDD!

i think i'm just about done with the beta -- i'm only really into ffa ("team games are for ****," quoth the master chief action figure), and i'm not sure i need to see snowbound or high ground anymore. i think i'll replay halo and halo 2 campaign now -- would i be better off on a 360 or an original xdude?
 
Am I the only one who would love it if Bungie asked Bill Paxton to voice one of the marines? I'm sure he would love to!

Also, get Michael Ironside to voice Lord Hood.






...and replace Michelle Rodriguez with the chick who voiced Vasquez in Aliens. Hell, just get the whole Aliens troop in the game.

I think the current VA for Lord Hood is great. Now Micheal Ironside as another spartan...

I'm way ahead of you. Started playing Halo 1 campaign yesterday (still doing Beta though). Doing it on 360 and VGA on my 19" Sony G400 CRT and boy is the game looking way better than I remember on XBox.... So much AA applied, it looks high res even though I set the dash to 640x480.

Had the same thing when I replayed it in 720p on the 360.
It's the surface effects, they look very good. It's still incredibly playable from a graphics point of view. (gameplay even more)

I tried 720p first, but I didn't like the game being stretched. And since I use a 4:3 CRT monitor, I decided to try 1024x768. It looked great, but then I remembered that the game is rendered 640x480 in the frame buffer then upscaled by ANA to whatever res you set so I tried 460x480. It looked even better @ 640x480 vs 1024x768 since I think there is no upscaling artifacts being introduced. So I'm going to play the game @ 640x480.

I just got a new 26" widescreen LCD.

What should I set the 360 dashboard to, to make Halo 2 look better.

Now I have it set to 1080i, Halo 3 look awesome and Halo 2 looks like balls.

With LCDs, you don't have much options. You can try VGA kit (your LCD probably has a VGA connector) and just set the dash to whatever your LCD's native resolution is (probably 1366x768) and just hope for the best and accept what you get. Should be better than 1080i via component since your LCD is all likely hood not running 1920x1080.

The game didn't stretch for me, my LCD TV just shows it in 4:3 with black bars, I can set it to stretch it but that just looks weird.

Huh, I guess that update prompted between the resolutions must give us 4:3 output now, even in 16:9 dash settings...

I did that last summer vacation...don't know if there was an update then.

Halo 2 was 16:9 I believe.

Well, the last time I tried Halo 1 BC was like 360 launch time, so it could be the one before that too.

You can choose 4:3 resolution like 1024x768, but I could have sworn Halo 2 has 16:9 mode in the settings....

BTW, I think Halo 2 looks crap on your LCD because it's being stretch in both directions by your LCD's scaler and the 360's scaler. That's like double whammy. Just let 360 scale it and set the dash to your LCD's native resolution (which is only possible if you use VGA cable kit).

First he was yelling "Veto!" repeatedly on the map selection screen. Then when we start playing I picked up the active camo so he decided he should kill me for it, because he wanted it, all the while saying "he took my camo thing!"
I booted him for it (we still proceded to win, thankfully). Then I get this awesome message with this exact text:

"hahaha you are so ****ing gay go outside kid get a life now i bet you get so much bad feed lol noob"

After that he spent the whole match sending me messages with the text "NOOB" in it.

And I though that video was exagerating!

Ahhh the Xbox Live comunity is such a beautiful thing!

i had some great games last night, but the best 'halo momemnt' ocured in one of my last btb slayer matches on valhala. the other team took off immediately in a banshee. i did the only thing you can do in this situation (other then grabbing our own banshee, the missile pod, the chain gun, or getting in the warthog :lol!) and grabbed a plasma pistol and went banshee hunting.eventually i got his attention, and after missing several charged shots, he had circled around and was heading head on for me when i nailed him.... my happiness with the hit soon turned to horror though as his stalled ride plumted to earth with me as its crash site. it flattened me like a pancake
