The Halo 3 Beta Thread

**** remakes, all new maps please. Zanzibar was enough, I would have been fine not seeing that map ever again in my lifetime :P
This is a guess of sorts, but even if Halo 3 has a dozen or so maps at launch, I'm pretty sure that Bungie will have new and exciting ways for us to get our hands on additional ones. A lot of people never played Chill Out on H1, so my guess is that for about 80% of the H2 community, it's going to be brand smackin, spankin new.

From what I remember of Chill Out it wasn't exactly that good to begin with...if you're gonna remake something, remake Prisoner.

It wasn't the best of the multiplayer maps.
The Halo 1 maps that deserve a remake are:
Battle Creek
Blood Gulch
Damnation (But only if there's fall damage)
Derelict
Hang 'em High
Prisoner
Wizard

I'm not saying that all of them should get remakes, I'd much rather have new maps, but those are the best of the bunch.

Lack of fall damage would make it a different game. Although I won't rule out them remaking a map that relied on fall damage as one of its main movement restrictions (Hang Em High / Tombstone), I'd think Bungie would be smart enough to remake a map that could play well on H3. Chill Out, if done right, could and would work with H3's weapons and controls.

So just chill, dude. :)

Only the specially designed LAS (Lightweight Antigravity Spartan) armor no longer takes fall damage. I read it in a newspaper.

It wasn't "Hang'em High" good, but it was still a really fun map.

For whatever reason, Chill Out was my map on Halo 1, I probably won 90% of the matches I ever played on that map. The shotgun and the overshield was such a lovely combination, especially when it came to killing folks running for their life out of the "rocket launcher room".

What have I done. I was kidding! 'Twas a pun, the lowest form of humor. Also, the only one I excel at. :(

And Voc, you of all people shouldn't be telling me not to read too much into anything related to Halo! :p

5 of those were remade for Halo 2 >.>

Back to discussion actually concerning the Halo 3 Beta. I just played for about two hours. Double Team Training. And I think the Pussy Combo is once again ruining VIP. It's the only game-type that it's actually rearing it's ugly head. Let's analyze this really quick...

- Charge shot drops BOTH the overshield, and the normal shield putting the VIP at the brink of death.
- A stick from a plasma grenade, or a spike grenade only drops one shield.
- A direct rocket drops about one shield
- A full clip from the Needler drops both shields

I think the Needler is tuned just right. But a single-stick should kill the VIP. And a charged shot should NOT drop both overshield and normal shield. It bothered me in Halo 2, and it is bothering me in the H3 Beta.

Let them die...especially Blood Gulch and Beaver Creek *shiver*

I mentioned that a few pages back Toy, I really wish the PP would just be removed from the game, at least MP.

Proving once again that my tastes in Halo multiplayer run precisely counter to the majority, my favorite Halo 1 map - and thus the one I'd like remade - is Rat Race. (Aside from Blood Gulch, which already was remade.)

Agreed. It's useless for anything save the noob combo and for stopping vehicles. Why not just make a piece of equipment for vehicles? Either that or make it a viable weapon again when you are using its primary fire. It's really the odd man out.

the only halo 1 map that should be remade for halo 3 is sidewinder me thinks

Big maps should die, Valhalla strikes a nice size balance however...I'm willing to bet Shrine will be my least favorite map without even seeing any of the others :lol

I'm willing to give big maps another chance. With vehicles and man cannons it might work out better, but they should be limited to BTLB.

Hey, I wasn't saying that I want them again, I was just saying they were the only ones deserving a remake.

I'm going to miss the rest of the beta due to MS's great support. box died on Memorial day and still dont have my coffin. The wait till September will be that much harder for me.

That map was wicked fun. I still have my copy of Halo PC floating around here. Maybe I'll try it out again when I get my laptop this summer. There's a short piece of news on Bungie.net about Halo PC earlier today.

They keep a tally of how many unqiue (and legit) product keys of Halo PC have played online in the last 30 days. Ready?

132,102!

Definitely interesting to see that many people still playing Halo: CE on PC. That number is probably better than what Halo 2 Vista will achieve due to the fact that being exclusive to Vista limits the game's audience hardcore.

Wrong. Shrine will not be your least favorite map. Even if you don't like huge maps. You will love it.

I still don't understand how the MVP system works. Sometimes it gets awarded to the losing team, sometimes the winning team. Is it awarded based on medals, kill/death ratio, or flag captures? Sometimes it seems to be completely random (may be a bug).

One other thing I don't like, (which must be a bug) is the scoreboard in CTF saying 0-0 after the end of every round. It should say the total score like 2-1 ... (also the scoreboard always says "Tie game!" for me even though one team really won.

Any time you see something like that, it's because it's Beta software.

Or because of a wizard

**** THE FLOOD AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, either someone messed with my save or the power going out mid-game did funny things, as I'm sitting here at the start of Sacred Icon trembling over my lost time. I was near the end! I think...! AHHH

So there's like zero chance that Bungie can just be like "No Flood in Halo 3, they are enjoying a refreshing drink over at Burger King, where the refills are free!" right?

No. They're in Halo 3 as far as the concept art knows.

Speaking of Halo 2 campaign, I've been replaying it as well and I just finished High Charity. My two favorite levels are definitely Uprising and High Charity, and High Charity to me shows how awesome the flood can be ;) The atmosphere in that level is perfect. Strangely though, I hated the Arbiter flood levels. Those and the earth ones are the worst IMO.

The problem wasn't with the Flood, it was with their AI and difficulty. Bungie's shown in multiplayer that they can take issues with Halo 2 and move beyond them by replacing or reworking them. I don't think campaign is going to be any different, in fact, I'd be willing to bet that we'll see a more refined and marked improvement in campaign from Halo 2 than anything else.

Also, note that the Brute and Flood AI mechanic were very similar: Fire Weapon, Take Fire, Drop Weapon, Charge...if they're going to renovate the Brute AI then I would expect a Flood AI renovation to occur as well. I would eat Flood levels up if they made them large, gave me a vehicle, and laid off the enemy rockets. For the interior environments, the Flood could work; I would prefer not to be attacked by large consecutive waves, but rather have a more brooding, frightening experience like in a Resident Evil game. Something the Guilty Spark 343 level had in spades before the swamp environment...
