The Halo 3 Beta Thread

Yeah, just call MS and have them change it (for 10 bucks).

You don't even have to call, the functionality is built in to the dashboard.. it's under account management i think, and pretty sure it's listed in the same spot as where you buy microsoft points as well.

Maybe I am crazy? :lol

I dunno, maybe its because that E3 demo has gotten to my head, but I've never really cared much for them. Actually I'll take it back, now that I think about it, they are definitely better than the heretic levels, so that leaves Delta Halo, and the last 3 as being better than the Earth levels, with Cairo being the worst of the Earth levels.

Interesting..

Now you know I've never even looked at that part of the dashboard, heh.

Delta Halo and the Earth levels are the the only ones I replay periodically to this day. The Arbiter doesn't exist in m copy of H2.

Does it change it for your friends? Or do you have to rebuild the list?

I hate the arbiter as well, but I think the way Uprising was designed was pretty awesome.

So I suppose this would be my ranking:

Uprising = High Charity > Delta Halo > Final Level (disregarding Tartarus) > Earth Levels > Cairo > The first level on High Charity (forgot the name) >>> Rest of the Arbiter Levels > Tartarus

I love pretty much all of Delta Halo except for the vehicle sequence after you cross the bridge.

Let them die...especially Blood Gulch and Beaver Creek *shiver*

I mentioned that a few pages back Toy, I really wish the PP would just be removed from the game, at least MP.

Though I like big maps b/c I like BTB, I completely agree with you about remakes. Lockout, Zanzibar, Ivory Tower, etc. were great Halo 2 maps. If you want to play them again . . . go play Halo 2. I like the idea of Shrine. It seems almost like a concept map.

From what we know or are pretty certain of, Halo 3 will have:

Chill: Chill Out
Valhalla: Essentially Blood Gulch
Last Resort: Zanzibar
High Ground: Arguably a smaller version of Zanzibar
The inevitable Lockout remake

I'd like new classics, not remakes of old.

I just had the coolest death... on Valhalla I picked up the mine at its spawn and threw it a few feet (so it'd be in front of one of the bottom base entrances). BOOM, all of a sudden a spartan laser comes and shoots the trip mine in mid air, exploding me.

Either the guy had awful aim or was shooting someone behind me at the water or something, but he got the kill anyway. Thought it was pretty neat.

Loving the beta even more now that I upgraded my tv to a 40" Samsung LN-T4061F. Beta in 1080p + 360 Elite w/ HDMI FTW!
Frankie you were right..So NICE!
:D

Since we're talking Halo 2, the only poor levels were the Heretic one, and the Long Master Chief level on High Charity, mainly due to the length. Delta Halo, Regret, Outskirts, Metropolis, and the last two Arbiter levels were the best.

I also quite liked the two Arbiter levels in the middle, it was easy to speed-run those.

No. You just have no idea what you're talking about.

Chill. WTF do you think I said I haven't played it? WTH do you think I asked a question to bring up a f**king debate?

I gave you the benefit of a serious response last time.

Now I don't feel the need to do so since your intentions are now clear.

But seriously.

What's up with the spacing in your posts?

Oh noes you figured me out. I am troll. Everyone is in a conspiracy against you. oh teh noes!1111

As for the spacing, I won't tell.

It's 3 maps. If you had the choice to play something that just came out for a while, or the same 3 maps, which would you choose?

Thats a pretty stupid logic. Ever played CS? Most people who have spent 10,000 of hours with that game only play something like dust and nothing else.

So what? Its an online FPS. It is repetitive... its just about if its fun. If something sh1t like shadowrun is gonna steal Halo 3s thunder, then god help us all. right?

You haven't played it so how do you even know? There are tons of Halo fans that aren't playing the beta that will pick it up on day one because its Halo.

My point was just that most people seem(?) to think that halo 2 was absolute trash. check out the GS review of the pc version. its hard to imagine that it used to be the most anticipated game of 2004. people seem more to fancy wow or hl2 these days.:/??

Worst troll ever. Try skimming through the 16,000+ posts of people talking about the game... you'll notice that the reactions are mostly overwhelmingly positive.

I havent read the entire thread, but at the time of reply some dude just talked about playing shadowrun instead of this. WTF?

Yeah, only 119,000 people have jumped on the beta in the last twenty-four hours. Sunday night to Monday night. Total failure.

Don't have to be sarcastic. Am I supposed to be impressed? At this moment there are 85,000 people playing a 9 year old that begins with C and ends with an S. For 24 hours? I wouldnt know if thats impressive... sure doesnt seem like it, when you got MMOs where 8 million people log in everyday.

Of course this is all just my assumptions based on how much hype that surrounded Halo 2. Will they close down time square for halo 3 aswell? will there be 2,5 million pre orders?

Im just asking. The fact that your being so defensive suggests that this game is somehow not so awesome as you make it out to be? Once the honeymoon is down, and people start posting "this game sucks" then I dont wanna be the bastard with the hand in the cookie legendary halo 3 edition.

but it looooooookkkksssss cool. Does brute guns look cool. but then again... why 16 player max? :/ After playing bf2(32 vs 32) I dont know If I can get back into small numbers. sigh.

You take some strange leaps of logic with those assumptions. I think you need to predict some more doom and gloom for extra crow (oh no, someone is playing Shadowrun instead!!). Ah well, everyone I've talked to agreed the beta already is (much) better than Halo 2 MP.

I never liked your avatar, but I like your soul. It's almost like I can smell your scent when I enter your profile.

Seriously. Mother'effing serial, I hope you are right.

I know - Im a pessimistic pr1ck. Thats just how I am. I got so high expectations for these games. It's like my mindset is like this: "if halo 3 doesnt get more than 9,4 on GS its a failure, if it sells under 8 million units its a failure" - I know it doesnt compare and work like that because its a different marked than 3 years ago.

___________

Anyway, too add another side to the discussion:

1)The third person view looks really cool for the support weapons. Wouldn't it be cool if they just made it possible to be in 3 person all the time? I think it could give an extra layer to gameplay. I hate jumping in first person(metroid prime, oblivion)! It would be easier to dodge warthogs against you?
But most of all it would just rock to be able to see your sweet character?

2)If they make the energy sword again, I think they should have a melee weapon on the human side aswell. Perhaps a big traditional rambo knife. I think Halo always needed that.
I know its not UC2, but if I recall a bunige dude saying that the 3 golden things of halo was guns, melee and grenades. they could do allot with plasma swords secondary fire. Perhaps a kick or a punch or something? Just to add some more spice to the fry.

3)Is the gameplay still dual wield > single wield, with the small weapons? How powerful is one plasma pistol or SMG in the end?

I get that a lot, the more people say it the more I'm convinced VJ Tony is the right avatar. My soul is happy.

I don't worry that much about what other people think, I just hope I'll like the game...which I'm pretty sure I will cause I loved the other ones too and so far it's giving me good vibes. I'm sure people will go off rampant when they percieve even but the smallest kink in the armor (sales, reviews, etc).

Dual wielding is much less prevalent overall. Obviously, 2 of a weapon is more powerful than 1, but sometimes i'll use a single spiker or SMG so i can also throw grenades. DW weapons are usually placed on the map in pairs. A single SMG is slightly better than the AR if you're close enough because it has a much larger clip.

I would say it's way better up close, especially with the melee as a finisher. It has a pretty good range for the strike and you can catch people off guard. Only works in concert with a Carbine or a BR though, because if you get caught at midrange with the SMG out, you're pretty much toast.

When I first started playing Beta I would go straight for duel spikers or smgs, now I rarely ever pick them up unless the rest of the team has cleared out the other weapons. BR, CR, AR, etc w/ grenades are what I prefer now.

Any time you see something like that, it's because it's Beta software.

Or because of a wizard
have you guys thought about adding a Total score for Territories matches? It would be nice to know how many territories that our team would have to capture for the win if we were in the 4th round or so. Btw, I really like the new round based offense/defense territory setup. As well as the new Assault bomb planting method where you don't have to just sit there defenseless in the circle to arm it. I never cared for those gametypes in Halo 2, but now they are up there with my favorites.

I agree, but just based on the beta, I don't think H3 will struggle in that category. If it does, I'll personally pick up the slack (just for you squickster)... :)

"sweat on jessica alba's tits" multiplayer map confirmed for H3.

Coming from somebody who didn't play Halo: Combat Evolved that much when it came to multiplayer, I LOVED Beaver Creek and Coagulation. Elongation offered some unique fun and I enjoy Tombstone. I think having some remakes of older maps, with the work that Bungie puts into them, is a great thing.

It's obvious there isn't going to be a shortage of maps in Halo 3, so I don't see what a few remakes would hurt.

Yeah, I don't mind remakes so much, but it's best when they add something new to the level to mix it up rather then just a new aesthetic feel. And they should be few and far between. So far, I think Bungie has handled them rather well from Halo to Halo 2, so I don't think there will be much of a problem moving on to Halo 3.

You were not asking questions, you are making incorrect assertions about the quality of the Beta and our reaction to it. It's rather hilarious that you are retroactively framing that as trying to bring up a debate. I responded to you seriously, and you ignored that and made blanket statements about us over-reacting. You have not played it, have clearly not followed community reaction at all and essentially have no idea what you're talking about.

That's the kind response. The other is to look at your first post, which

1) cast doubt on the quality of the beta, despite not playing it
2) summarized community response as "disappointed", despite posting in the largest thread in GAF history, which is filled with overwhelmingly positive responses
3) questioning the sales potential of the game, since everyone was so disappointed in Halo 2

That's more transparent that Seran Wrap, for crying out loud.

I was kind of wondering why they remade Hang Em' High for Halo 2 instead of Halo 3 but...Whatever. The new version is a lot of fun and I'll probably play some Halo 2 this summer at times.

Fan service. A large group of regular Halo 2 players have been asking for Hang 'em for quite some time.

Thank you sir ;)

I wonder if they'll work them into the campaign to replace the nightvision on the sniper. It would work very well and it would be a shame to save such an awesome feature for just the display on the sniper scope when unzoomed and for B.net updates. ;)

Anyway, I think we've gathered enough evidence to say that whenever Stinkles doesn't respond to a claim about Halo 3, it is true.

Stinkles, we play as the Arbiter in Halo 3, no?

Confirmed.

GhaleonEB - No. Just no. Im not gonna waste time crushing you. I'll let you have this supposed internet defeat, but know this - I am laughing from inside the closet.

Just played another hour or so and after playing Shadowrun and Gears of War online recently I can definitely say this...Proximity chat more or less ruins the game for me. I'm really glad Bungie is leaving it out of Ranked games. In Double Team Training all anyone does is talk shit because they're always with a friend and they're trying to be funny. It's not funny. There are certain times when Proximity Chat causes a few laughs, but overall I think the game is better off without out. Especially in Ranked Games.
