The Halo 3 Beta Thread

I'm really starting to dislike Snowbound in Rumble Pit. It just turns into a shotgun camp fest and it's really not enjoyable. I dunno, maybe I should start doing the same and start running towards the shotgun at the beginning as well.

Just grab Covenant Carbine and stay outside. Problem solved.

Rumble Pit being the operative term. I've had the same thing happen, where everyone felt the need to run single-file in to the base where they knew he was, just to try and take him out.

In my game the camper racked up 10 kills in probably under a minute, right at the start of the game because of those idiots. He probably would've stayed there getting kills all day if I didn't pop in through the shield door and toss 4 grenades in his general direction.

I still lost though, but eh.

A larger version of the handheld harpoon gun will be on the Ski-Doo.

I guess that makes sense considering the giant sea worm at the end of Stage 1.

And here I was about to boast of my first half-decent Team Slayer performance. (Two killing sprees! Raising my Halo 3 total to....three!)
Last night I played like ass dude. Way too tired and tonight I simply can't be on for that very same reason.

TJ Ram, no worries dude. In lieu of you bringing your divinity, we had a bamf Puma tear a new asshole into the matchmaking collective last night. Ghaleon was also providing the rape as well.

As for the other member of Team Jesus: His unholy alliance with that FASA Studios title must come to an end so we can get a few more games in before this whole beta deal is over with. I wouldn't mind bringing the suck into matchmaking with Merlin either...

Its been a while since I posted in here, sadly I got banted for talking in a negative tone in the PS3 Firmware thread.

I cant wait for Halo 3 proper to come out in September. Although Im afraid that there will be a lot of vetoes of the three maps weve been playing these last few weeks when the game is available for real. I havent touched Halo 2 since the beta, but Im sure I will be fine to play that with other games like Shadowrun, Forza 2, Bioshock, Mass Effect (Believe!), Blue Dragon coming out this summer.

I wouldnt say Im that good at Halo, if I really practiced more, and honed my skill I think I would rock even more. I have my moments. I wanted to showcase a game where I actually got a perfection medal. It is definitely mute in design compared to the other medals. Check out Perfection.

Yes it is a custom game, and yes it wasnt standard slayer, but to my credit I didnt know that anything was different until after the game and I asked the host. He had the leader set with overshields and 25% extra speed. That would explain why I overly rocked everyone, but outside of that Im sure I would have won regardless, just not as hardcore like.

I think Valhalla, Snowbound and High Ground - despite being truly oustanding maps, IMO - will all get vetoed in Matchmaking for a few weeks after Halo 3 comes out in September. I suspect there's going to be a lot of Beta players wanting to play the other maps, to the frustration of those who were not in the Beta.

Is it me or just there is no big difference between Halo 2 and Halo 3?! I feel like Halo 3 is the same as Halo 2 but with HD, talking in regarding of the graphics ..

Right, but they added a bunch of jaggies too. Can't forget those.

Don't make me alert a mod, for the love of God don't make me do it.

In reply to your post: Look back to about page 10 and continue reading from there for the full, unabridged version.

You need to try harder than that. You know, for kids.

Don't worry, Bungie. There's still time to make a phone call.

The noobs gone wild video was pretty hysterical. The music was especially appropriate given all the suicides due to the Energy Drainer ("danger danger! high voltage!"). I love that piece of equipment, but it's like a portable little suicide ball for me. That Slayer match on Snowbound I linked to earlier had two suicides - both related to that thing. I think that's what Bungie means when they say the Equipment is self-balancing. At least in my case, Energy Drainer deoployments often go like this:

1) Spot enemy
2) Throw down Energy Drainer
3) Kill enemy
4) Escape route cut off/underestimate effective range of equipment/grenade destroys Energy Drainer
5) Everybody dies

Seems pretty self-balancing to me. :lol

I feel like the last-second cut-off timer for Equipment is earlier than for grenades.

When I know i'm going to die I always seem to get my death grenade off.

But equipment doesn't like to deploy for me the split second before I die.

But it always at least looks like you deployed it. You see it flop out to the ground, but nothing happens, and your hopes and dreams are deflated and then sunk in a sea of impotent sorrow.

Great Humpday Challenge, although it only contributed to the WoW withdrawal I've been feeling lately.

Oh and it would have been better if they had used the custom games exploit so they could have the teams and gametypes they wanted.

The graphics really need to be tightened up on my death animations. As it stands, they are a little too humiliating (especially the whole body floating down the creek and then sinking to the bottom one).

I wish that once you had died in the water and you've floated and dropped down to the river bed, that your body would keep moving down the river. Just kinda seems weird your body just stopping and then not moving at all despite the flow of the water.

I absolutely HATE Shitty Snipers. Please put it the f*ck away from Team Slayer.

Please expound. I have found the shotgun sniper combo to be one of the best combos a player can get. When everybody has it, it tends to separate the skilled players from the n00bs/slazr-whores.

However, I am interested in hearing your well-reasoned argument against the gametype.

A Spartan weighs something like a 1000 lbs. I think it's weird they float at all, but obviously ymmv.

I had some grenades float next to me the other day, for a few seconds. It's a nice touch, the floating Spartans, but the whole "they weigh half a ton" thing bothers me. It's one of the smallest possible nits to pick, but when the Beta is this good that's what I'm reduced to. I feel so petty.

My god, Big Team Battle traiining is just the pits now. You're partnered up with people who team kill, quit, or spout racist comments throughout the match nine times out of ten. Le sigh.

As a casual Halo player, I've come to the realization that there is no such thing as a casual Halo player. Matchmaking means you're tossed in with people who have bars and stars to spare, meaning instadeath for the most part.

I still can't wait, though. Sick.

I know, but I'm just saying is that they're going to do it they should go the whole way. I think seeing your body roll down the stream would just look alot better than just seeing it stationary in the water. Screw the 1000 lb thing, I want the game to look coolz.

That's the thing. What you get in a big open map like Valhalla, unless you are a good sniper, is a bunch of deaths from nowhere. It's better in High Ground as you can back up to shotgun, very clever, but in Valhalla it's useless.

Nevertheless, my argument is that sniping is a very specific skill that not most people have, and going into Valhalla in Snipers is for those people just misery. Everything else is very balanced.

And an oil tanker weighs thousands of tons.

Displacement and material. When the Spartan armor becomes waterlogged after intrusive percussive or energy weapon fire, the gel layers and other materials inside the armor become compromised and the armor, rather than the dead Spartan inside, sinks.
