The Halo 3 Beta Thread

So I finally get to visit NeoGAF for a minute during lunch (crazy day at work. Btw, any MS Exchange experts here?), and what do I find but nearly 5 new pages on the Beta thread!

Dayum, are these shots great! The extra layers of polish on the MP graphics look sweet.
The real time reflections in MP on the Spartan's visor looks awesome. Nice to see that and the grass destructors in. I hope there is that much AA in the final game on MP. The Shrine shots are the only ones that aren't as impressive, as there fog/haze seems to have a silk screen effect, almost like dithering, and the AA looks akin to what was on Valhalla. As big as the map is, that's understandable though.

Assuming that's a rear seat on the Chopper, I think that seat is really going to test players' vulnerabilities to motion sickness. Especially if I'm the driver. :) Hopefully it won't be as bad as the back seat supposedly was on the Doozy that was dropped from Halo 2.

And while I appreciate the release of these shots and interview, as others have mentioned, it's just making me miss the beta that much more. :(

I could see Bungie dropping a new trailer.

I'm hoping for a new Vidoc on the Elites, personally. All I know is I'll be bringing my 360 into work during E3 to download demos and movies and such on our multi-T1 connection. ;)

So much for making Ghaleon puke while I drive. :(

Maybe they'll finally show us Jub Jub and reveal that it's simply an oversized kitchen sink and faucet. Best multiplayer map ever.

Edit: I'd also like to see the Elite models...

Jub Jub is a forest moon with ewoks dancin' and all that.

I'm getting the screens from MS as I write this. I guess if they are better res than IGN's they'll be more interesting for a new topic :)
Edit: Only 5 screens in a 150MB archive...

Someone needs to keep this pic in mind for the September sales thread. Perfect photoshop material!

Serious Voc: A lot of the update depictions seem to suggest that it's a Forerunner structure (likely a series of platforms and/or rooms) inset into trees (much like the Ewok dwellings). The architecture of the map is said to be intertwining with trees. There was even a mentioning of birds, I believe, at one point.

I wonder if they ever were dropped since there were framerate concerns at the time with implementing them...

I remember reading some fan speculation that it might be a remixed lockout, but I don't remember how they got to that conclusion... Here's to hoping!

Make it happen, Blim. 9 out of 10 people in this thread would click on your new one. :P

Between IGN, GamePro and your stuff, we should have a good amount to talk about before E3. Hopefully we'll have stuff to talk about during and after E3 as well.

While we're talking about armor permutations, here is little suggestion for a new chestpiece and a helmet:

One of the new chestpieces already looks like a tape recorder so this would be the next logical step.

Like the one in Ghost of Onyx?

Yeah, just finished my re-reading of it and that's the first thing that came into mind...

I don't think orbital elevators are transparent tubes. My bet is the Covenant fleet doing some partial glassing of Earth.

Well, we are seeing them from quite the distance and I don't think they're transparent, more glass-like or something...

And glassing wouldn't look anything like that. More like extremely big plasma shots being fired...

Oh and for people wondering about the size of Shrine... you have no idea!

Unfortunately, we didn't get to play it, only saw an extremely cool Saved Film (and I still hate you for that Frankie... what a tease!)... man, that was one awesome Halo orgie...

Damn, Bungie.net has even more pictures? Yay!

One thing that I liked but forgot to comment about from the IGN article was the unlocking the armor in Campaign - IGN wasn't sure, but that would be great if true - to have some armor online that you could only unlock by beating Legendary, or by finding a certain place...

I know I'll be rocking the stealth helmet as soon as I can for a while, and mixing and matching very often, like I did between Spartan and Elite...

And speaking of Elites... hmmm.

P.S.: I still haven't deleted the Beta yet either - :lol

I have a feeling that the new armor types will be unlocked by playing the
meta game
.

Just to not open a new thread, any idea if the Legendary Edition is gonna be released in Asia?

I know the halo2 collectors edit. was released there (i got that one and was region free).

Might as well ask this question for all regions.

Didn't see this posted yet, so sorry if old. Pretty big change in Halo 3 campaign. Apparently Bungie is dropping AI and replacing it with humans playing as the Covenant against you, which will require an internet connection and XBL subscription to play campaign:

Yes, this is a joke.

lolwtf

Malek also explained that while the story line will remain the same, introducing human intelligence into the game will give it infinite replayability. "One time the best enemy character you face may be controlled by Habibul Ashraful from Bangladesh, who only has three fingers, and the next time it may be Li Ming, who farms gold in World of Warcraft."

Not that I know of. It is a little tinny. Sounds like they set a mic in the middle of a conference room, but I don't have any trouble making everything out.

Nothing mind blowing. He talks about how they go about creating and finished multiplayer maps and he speaks a little bit about the increased level of "player traits" in Halo 3. As an example, he notes that you can tweak the traits for a flag carrier to have less gravity, faster running speed, etc..

I asked at play-asia and they still dont know anything about it.

OT: That article may be a joke but is what "The Crossing" is trying to deliver, isnt?

Short interview with Frank about - gasp - the Beta (remember that? :p ).

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=167085

Was any map or game mode vetoed enough to cause concern at Bungie? (cough, Snowbound)

O'Connor: Cough, no. Snowbound holds up very well as a medium sized map, and our stats right now would place it as a popular map - but the game types we often associated with it in the game type are ones that we've already made significant changes too. Stuff like King of the Hill has been improved dramatically.

Based on the data you've collected, will you be making significant changes to the final game?

O'Connor: Of course. A lot of them, networking code, UI and flow functionality and so on, will probably be invisible. But we will be tweaking weapons, game modes and spawn points for some time to come. The Beta will make the final product better. That's a fact.
