The Halo 3 E3 Campaign Trailer

Sad if it doesn't have that.

It will have it. They haven't confirmed, but it will have it. They've said things like "Yes, it would be fun to play co-op over Xbox Live" when asked. Which is a cheeky way of saying "We are not confirming it but... duh".

Weekly Update tonight. SINGLE PLAYER MEGATONS. Or not. BUT YES! MASSIVE PANTS TIGHTENING VIDEOS. Or just maybe Luke and Frankie talking about random E3 shit. AND THEN THE SINGLE PLAYER VIDEO BECAUSE BUNGIE IS GOOD TO ITS FANS. And a Mister Chief Helghast painting. But probably not.

Perhaps I've missed it, but have they ever confirmed online CO-OP play?

Uh, it had better have online co-op in this day and age. I honestly thought that it was kind of assumed that it'd have it, and that the only question was if it'd be 2 or 4 player co-op.

Bungie planned it for Halo 2 and the fact that it was still in the online multiplayer options probably meant that it was cut late in development. I'm sure it was on their list of goals for Halo 3. Personally most of my great memories of Halo: CE came from playing Co-Op so online co-op for Halo 3 would be a dream for me.

I just read about the final Saved Films Theatre too. Sounds just as great as I originally imagined in to be. It was cool in the Beta, but definitely needed features like FF and Rewind. And being able to pause and rotate the camera...Awesome.

I hope Arbi is a little more skilled then Dom. If he's going to tag along, he's going to have to pull his own weight.

Oh, man, I was planning on getting an early night tonight, but... I don't think I can wait till morning for any potential megatons.

Just so you are aware, whatever time zone you happen to be in, the SINGLE PLAYER MEGATONS will come at three in the morning.

I just saw Frankie and Brian demoing the game yesterday...

Wowowowow...

First of all, Saved Films will be huge, but we all knew that. Still, these tools are simple, but extremely powerful. Now everybody can be a director (and most will probably fail as they lack any creative skill)

But the Singleplayer level! Brian did a pretty good job of playing through it on Heroic, but man, that jungle looked so atmospheric and it's just like... I finally had that old feeling that I'm used to when playing through a Halo game for the very first time. And this one felt more like Halo 1 actually...

I do hope, as Luke hinted, we get to see this soon. :D

A few observations I hadn't seen yet. Since everything usually gets pointed out, I'm sure I'm late with this but I though I'd give it a shot:

1) I had originally thought that the factory worker getting owned at 0:37 could be an unarmed civilian, but I just noticed that the one in the background is clearly carrying a pistol, running in a combat stance. So perhaps they're not unarmed afterall.

2) Bungie has said that the shotgun can cancel out sword lunges. It looks like at 0:46, a Brute is jumping towards the Chief to do a downward smash with the hammer, and a shotty blast knocks him out of the lunge. The second shot from first person drops the Brute.

3) The Longsword that gets nailed at 1:03 appears to have been shot by the giant cannon visible at 1:05; it looks like a giant elongated Shade from the first game. I wonder if, like the Scarab we can destroy it. Or, perhaps, use it. Also visible at 1:03 is that strange, possibly human flying vehicle everyone has seen.

4) Not sure how I never noticed it, but the Chief is destrying a power center of sorts at 1:44 on the Scarab, which is probably how you destroy it. I wonder if you get the chance to pilot one, and if so, whether the enemy AI will try to do the same.

All probably spotted a million years ago, but I hadn't seen them mentioned specifically. Lots of cool details in the gameplay footage.

I'm starting to wonder if they gimped the sword too much. I agree it was overpowered in 2, but I'm wondering if there is any reason at all to pick one up now. The delay and fact that it's visible on your leg now pretty much ruins my enjoyment of the suprise jumping slash.

I dont think so. Bungie talked about how each Equipment is very unique. This is too much like Bubble Shield. That would be too redundant

Hrrmm. Do we have any good shots of this ring world. We are so sure it was not another Halo? Are you saying that because of how Shiny it was, and looked like it didnt have much vegetation?

while i agree it would be simialr in use, it is quite different in that unlike the bubble shield, you cannot pass through this shield. i imagine once deployed, it would act like they did in halo 1 and 2, whereas they are inpenetrable for several shots before changing colors and failing. maybe after being "down" for several seconds it would bring back up and the whole thing would last a minute or so, or maybe once down, it would remain down. gameplay wise, it would have many alternative uses in combat/strat then the bubble shield. by driopping it in doorways/hallways, you ultimately block that temporarily, making for choke points, escape routes. also, because it doesnt encapsalate the protected, it wouldnt be as efficient as a pure shield. grenades obviously still would be quite effective against it. so, in summary, yeah, i think it most certainly could be equipment, as its uses would be quite unique. it doesnt hurt that that icon bares at least a slight resemblance to the shields as we've seen them in the past

After reading Luke and urk's post back to back.....hype+10

I can't wait for the BWU.

I know, I know, setting myself up for disappointment. :(

Don't lie, you work at Bungie.

You know, I could if they were accepting applications for fanboys with no relevant talent. I did write a fanfic about the Chief once. It was no "Can of Worms" though. :(

Eh, looks like the back of a Pelican to me actually since it has the wheeled supports (a la the E3 03 demo, elsewhere) though honestly you can't tell too much from it.

Personally I just want to know what the object on/surrounding Earth is from 1:23-1:26 because I have no idea
whatsoever

It's not Earth, it's a crazy Halo-ish but not Halo structure. See the many screenshots about it in this thread to see what I mean.

You mean this wasn't an Urk certitude?! We've been had!

I don't know if an update tonight would be the most likely venue for a video download (Luke's been spreading the wealth of content slowly - not clumping it once a week, but tossing a little here and there). That being said, the possibility of seeing that demo anytime in the near future has me personally elated and simultaenously thrilled.

I'm curious about the Elites that GameSpot mentioned in their coverage. It stated that the Elites were enemies at some point during the first mission. It's possible that the individuals watching the video could simply be mistaken, but a consideration I've always had tells me that Regret's original ground forces, the Elite-led military that was stationed above Earth and near Mombasa during the first wave may have survived. If that's the case, it would be interesting to see these Elites interact with the Brutes who have just arrived and interacting with the Arbiter, once a commander in one of their most majestic fleets, who is now fighting against the Covenant.

Furthermore, this would be a good pathway for Bungie to show the rift by having the Brutes turn on the Elites at some point early and destroy them. When the Elites of High Charity/Delta Halo arrive (presumably) to assist the Arbiter, we get the story point depicted on the Halo3.com site which claims that the Arbiter is now the leader of the Elites.

I guess we'll have to wait and see...

Right. And we've already seen a schism amongst the Covenant forces (Heretic and his followers), so it stands to reason that not all Elites will side with the Prophets or with the Arbiter.

edit:beaten, or at least beaten on half of my speculation.

I always figured that not all the elites would just jump sides so quickly. I don't think it'd be to off base to suggest some elites stay loyal to the covenant, while others rebel.

Besides, the elite faithfull to the covenant would no longer be protectors of the prophets, hence a wardrobe change (keeping them easy to identify from your allied elites).

Yep. Bungie has some real cool opportunities with the plot this time around. I can't wait to see how they will capitalize on them. Interactions with Cortana, between Elites and Brutes, etc. all will make for some interesting situations. This will be awesome.

i'm not sure what to think honestly.

on the one hand, EVERYONE would love to fight against elites again. they are iconic enemies in the halo franchise and proven to be worthy advisaries. on the other hand, we know we are sided with at least some elites, and unless bungie came up with some new garb for enemy elites (a friendly elite is seen in the latest campaign trailer standing with the chief, the arbiter and a moniter, wearing the classic elite armor), i dont think we'd be squaring off with elites that look like friendlies. that would be frustrating and confusing to the player. gamespot did state that they "thought" they fought elites in the demo, but that doesnt sound like a given to me.

so, yeah, i hope (and it seems likely) that we'll face at least some elites still holding onto the covenant, but i dont take gamespots reporting as fact, and would wager they'll be different in appearance. but who knows. some things are better left for surprises

Clever girl!

Phail.

Oh, and guys, just thought I would express some ideas about AI, because I'm bored. When will we see games with AI which adapts to what weapons you hold. With games these days, enemies attack you the same way if your carrying a pistol or a rocket launcher. Why?

I think it would be great to hear a grunt scream "rockets, retreat!", then see a bunch running away, arms flailing in the air. Just simple things like that would make the gameplay much funner, and would make the feeling of weilding a rocket launcher much more exciting!

so, we had company over last night and i played through some of halo 2 with a 12 year old. at one point, out of nowhere he turns to me and says "i like this music. its really sad. we're in a war and people are dying."

+1 marty

I've watched the trailer a few more times in HD and I've come around. It is all game footage and therefore an honest to goodness, no BS, preview of the title.

These days game trailers are much more like movie trailers.. I was expecting something more like the Halo 3 announcement teaser.

Looking very much forward to Halo 3. :D

Yeah. Those MS bastards suspended my account and won't let me add a prepaid card to it. So for the time being I'm Jessica Biel.

If you don't mind me asking- why?

My credit card expired prior to it renewing and rather than just demoting me to Silver, they suspended it. According to the guy I talked to, the only way to get it back is to add a new card.

Don't worry, this is only a temporary change to commemorate the trailer. It will be back soon. Specifically on the 17th, when I RAPE TDG AS MICHIGAN IN NCAA 08.

OH YEAH, I WENT THERE.
