The Halo 3 E3 Campaign Trailer

Don't worry, this is only a temporary change to commemorate the trailer. It will be back soon. Specifically on the 17th, when I RAPE TDG AS MICHIGAN IN NCAA 08.

OH YEAH, I WENT THERE.
You think you're going to beat me? I assume you don't plan on starting Chad Henne then.

The trailer had a strong start but a weak finish, imo...

It did make me want to do a run through of Halo 2's story mode again though...

The closing shots of the Chief seemed rather poignant and interesting for me, but I can see how for the majority of casuals, it's probably not the most exciting way to end, especially if you don't understand the implications of those two moments - the despair, the finality, that last pause to mourn. The moment before everything is lost.

Cue the damn music.

Cue the damn music.

Actually, it was the way both the normal Halo theme and the new fan fare theme both ended on strange notes that made the end of the trailer seem abrupt to me. I won't say poorly done, because I disagree with the comments on editing - I think that the video was edited fine. It was a combination of actual gameplay and cinematics and done well, in my opinion (and I'm in the minority apparently).

The music itself wasn't bad, only how it didn't flow very well between the two themes.

So where are all these Bungie employees usually found in Halo topics? I would like an explanation as to why no footage beyond a fuzzy, sloppy trailer has been released. And why the press is allowed to see real footage, rave about it, but the rest of the gaming public is only fed written snippets here and there.

Come on, Bungie, we're a little over 2 months before release. Get your act together. And yes, you can do that while saving us from spoilers. All I want is gameplay footage anyway.

:lol I'm sure there will be a plethora of footage released over the next few weeks. Patience is a virtue...even on the internet.

I was doing a little research and data mining for my next "The Halo 3 E3 Campaign Trailer" joke post, and I came across a bizarre find. Go to the Google Image site, search for "steaming log", and check out the first image. Don't worry, I have SafeSearch on, so it won't be anything terrible. I promise.

True, but this is feeling like those Iraqi benchmarks. Wait some more! Wait some more! :D

I was hoping for a solid presentation of something at E3, but we didn't even get that. It is a bit frustrating all the good stuff is apparently too good for us.

Not necessarily:

Like I said in another thread, we're completely aware of folks desire to see the Campaign demo that the press did, and historically Bungie is pretty good about giving the fans what they want.

You never know... :D

All the races in the covenant have their home planets. We have no idea if these races maintained their own worlds or shared it with the other species of the covenant. Elites, however, shared a home world with prophets, but we do not know the stance of the elites on the home world, and nor do we know if the home world is still inhabited. It seems as if at the end of halo 2 the elites had choices of either revolting or staying loyal to the covenant. We don't know how widespread the revolt is. We don't know how autonomous elites are outside of the covenant. For all we could tell, the entire elites race might be revolting, or a just a small fraction.

Halo3.com said that the elites and humans are vastly outnumbered. Which could mean either that most elites are still covenant loyal, or not many elites are left after the civil war.

Wow. The page that it leads to is awesome. Not really SFW but very nice. :D

I hope Bungie answers some questions in todays weekly update.

We know that the Arbiter is walking around with the Chief in some levels and that he has a green co-op marker above his head which clearly means he is different than your usual marine.

Just how complex will his AI be?

Will he pick up different weapons like a second player, will he deploy equipment and most importantly, will he be able to die?

I hated the immortality of important characters in Halo 2. We can't kill them, fine, but Bungie please don't put them into encounters.

I'm talking about Johnson and Half-Jaw here, just give them a pistol and watch how they kill everything in their path in Halo 2, that isn't cool. Dumb ass Needler Keyes from the first game wasn't that hot either, but better than immortal allies.

I hope the Arbiter is NOT invincible and I hope that it doesn't feel like an escort mission either when he is around. Just give him better aim and more health, make him smart or make him a coward, but please don't ruin your carefully crafted encounters again with invicible characters.

The arbiter should respawn after death when no enemies are around.

I'll give it another watch because from what you say about the ending I didn't "see" everything in the trailer.

Youtube version sucks balls but its all I have since I can't find a downloadable mp4 version anywhere...

Eh, looks like the back of a Pelican to me actually since it has the wheeled supports (a la the E3 03 demo, elsewhere) though honestly you can't tell too much from it.

Personally I just want to know what the object on/surrounding Earth is from 1:23-1:26 because I have no idea
whatsoever
Same vehicle at 1:41.

You sure it's a Pelican?

Edit: Awesome site.

That pic pretty much confirms it is a Sparrowhawk.

It definitely has similarities, but I don't think it's a Sparrowhawk. Firstly, because that artwork is from Halo Wars, a game which takes place during the first Human-Covenant encounters. Secondly, the feet things that jut out from the bottom face the opposite direction, and the wings are much shorter on the 'Hawk. And thirdly, the Beta code said something about a "Hornet" vehicle which most have assumed is the human flying vehicle. It mentioned nothing about a "Sparrowhawk."

If it is the Sparrowhawk, however, it would be a completely different and updated version of one -- one that doesn't look a whole lot like that Halo Wars art.

I think it is heading away from the viewer and we are seeing the bottom of it pretty much. Only the rear fins are missing, but as Exarchos said the Halo Wars art is from ~25 years before the trilogy so that could be due to an updated design.

I dunno. Thats a stretch

No it's not. There are two red x's in both shots and they look practically identical. You may also notice both a green and blue x. Again, very similar in both pictures. Of course, the object from the trailer does have a scribbled white thing that doesn't appear in the Halo Wars shot, but I think we can safely assume, by virtue of the four colored x's alone, that these are, in fact, screens of the same ship: the UNSC Walrus.

Nah. Close.

I'm going to go with UNSC Back-Massager.

I originally thought it was facing away from the screen too, but I'm pretty sure it's facing to the right. If you looks closely you can see what appears to be a Machine-Gun on the underside of the craft -- near the front, which could possibly be attached to the gunner's seat. I'm thinking the "feet" things that stick out from the bottom are there to position the vehicle correctly when it's lying on the ground. That way the gunner can get in from underneath the vehicle, and the pilot can enter from the front. This is really hard to explain with words. I'd make a diagram, but I can't right now.

Also, I'd like to point out that the place you drew the blue X looks pretty similar to the back of the Sparrowhawk, another reason that has led me to believe the vehicle is facing to the right.

Haha. You've got it facing the wrong way. In the video you can see that it's a ship that is reversing and then coming to a stop. I don't believe it's the same design as the Sparrowhawk in that screenshot, at the very least you can see that the round engine that you marked with a green X rotates in the video as the ship reverses and finally hovers. In the Halo Wars shot it looks like it is set fixed into the wing.

By the way, I'm surprised no one has mentioned the large ship seen at 1:45 with the two "headlights" in the distance a couple frames before the Scarab explodes.

Looks like the same sleek design as the small round ships that Tombur was asking about, except huger. The design doesn't look Covenant or what we know of as Covenant, and doesn't look like the typically blocky large UNSC ships.

Forerunner anyone? :-)

Ok, here's my post about Tombur's small ships again because everyone seemed to have missed it.

Me said:
Seraphs. The Covenant's equivalent to the Longsword.
The huge ship you're talking about looks silver and Covenant to me.

Covenant assault carriers.

It's a Covenant cruiser like the Truth and Reconciliation, it has two fins right under the nose and two small thrusters in the back.

You can see these in the Pelican assault scene too.

I remember someone, earlier in this thread, saying that he hoped the swirling cloud above the Ark was still in. I think it's safe to say you won't be disappointed:

You can tell by the trailer than cutscenes sport some 4xAA, while the game play sequences sport none. Again, a smart choice because I hardly care about aliasing when I playing games at fast motion.

If you want proof of no AA, just go to the warthog scene where they are wires in the background. It's around the one minute mark.

Nice catch. And yes, that was me. I just hope they keep all the lighting effects with the lightning and all:

I also hope said storm will be visible during a level you play and perhaps will get progressively worse.

On a side note, it looks like this part of the game takes place later in the day than in the announcement trailer. The current version looks much darker, I love the smoke they added that rises from spots in the distance.
