'The Dark Knight' Blu-Ray Details

The PlanetaHD site from Spain is reporting the first detailed information about the audio and supplements to be included on Warner's 'The Dark Knight' Blu-ray Disc release. The highly anticipated title will have a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 soundtrack and will be issued in a two-disc edition.

In addition to the movie itself, the first disc will include the "Gotham Discovered: The Creation of a Scene" extra where Director Christopher Nolan and his collaborators unveil details on the planning of the movie, including stunt double work, how the filming in IMAX was done and information about the new Bat-suit, Bat-pod, etc.

The second disc will include the following documentaries: "Batman Technology: Gadgets and Tools" (in HD), "Batman Unmasked: The Psychology of the Dark Knight" and "The World of Batman Seen Through Real Life Psychotherapy" (in HD), 6 clips from the Gotham Cable Premier's newscast: "Tonight in Gotham", plus art galleries on the Joker's letters, conceptual art, posters, production stills, trailers, and TV spots.

Whoa, I'm a little late, but WHY is there only DD5.1 on Speed Racer?

Warner Bros. skimmed out with it being pressed on a BD-25 instead of a BD-50 disc unfortunately. Gorgeous HD video showcase, but at over 2 hours run time, there was no space for HD audio.

I guess, can you say double dip HD future?!

There's a 3for2 uk. please let me know if the choice is any good. About $22USD each (but that's with shipping to australia).

Also thinking about monster house + big fish - tried to watch my DVD monster house last night but it was too dvd/pixellated for me :(

I really hope that their is a single TDK Blu Ray I don't wanna pay for all that extras crap, just want the HD movie!

3 for 2? :o - awesome I'm waiting for amazon to do their deal again...

So I rented 2 movies and watched 'em tonight.

Speed Racer was up first, I had a couple friend over and all 3 of us enjoyed it. Not like "blow me down this is amazing" or anything but it was an entertaining 2 hours. Pretty damn nice transfer and some interesting cinematography , the film really does look stupidly expensive almost to the point where I'm suprised it got greenlit as anything other then a 25 million dollar straight to dvd film. I can't recommend a purchase because of only having standard barebones dd5.1 which is very muted but it's worth a watch.

Forbidden kingdom .... well let's start with the good- it's got a great transfer and some superb audio with a 7.1 dts master audio but... unfortunatly it's a pretty terrible movie. I really can't recommend it to anyone unless you can get lucky as my friends did by watching it at my place for free. It's simply one of the most cliche'd and generic movies made in the last 5 years, nothing will suprise you and it got bad enough towards the end I was able to not just predict how the movie ends but how each shot would pan out. Stick with HERO or House of flying daggers or even Curse of the golden flower. This film is proof that just because you can come up with an idea that involves a chubby white kid pretending to know kung fu in ancient china does not mean that you should make a movie out of it.

If only speed racer had 7.1 dts... that would have sounded so good.

A couple of exclusives for Canada: the original Nightmare On Elm Street was just released (no extras, but video/audio is very good from what I've read) and .

Jesus Christ thank you. I though they would never release Nightmare on Elm Street in HD.

Has anyone heard of it being released in the U.S. or if any of the other series being considered?

Ooh my god. I just noticed The Fall is region free. Anyone know the cheapest place that ships it internationally? I can get it from Amazon for roughly €24 but if there are any better deals out there. :D

This has been on for awhile now, I snapped up Hellboy, Men in Black and A Knights Tale - mainly for Heath Ledger but also its not a bad film :D Those are 3 of the cheapest films in the offer so it worked out at like £8 per film.

Was tempted by a few others but I decided to be patient and wait for further price drops (don't want to pay more than £11 for a BR again unless its a major release I adore), check out movietyme as well, some of those films may turn out cheaper to buy individually there. Films like The Rock are awesome but will forever be floating around these bargain offers and will only get cheaper.

Play.com also have a 3 for 2 offer on, as well as a different 3 for £30 on, but not quite as good as Amazons.

Guys don't forget to check out Tesco's DVD rental service, you can get a free Blu ray if you sign up for the 14 day free trial, add 10 discs to your list, get the first disc then immediately cancel and send your disc back within the 14 days. Nothing to pay.

If you're already a subscriber, just use a different email/card/address and you're fine. I used my work address.

Iron Man arrived today.

I watched it this morning - my first time seeing it - and I liked the film itself a lot. One of the better 'fun' superhero movies that doesn't take itself too seriously, and I was kind of surprised at the end when it ended with
Stark admitting that he was Iron Man
. That'll make the sequel interesting.

The AV is very good. The video looks excellent, if not mind-blowing for most of it, but the sound is brilliant: the explosions and heavy impacts during the action scenes are really aggressive. Pretty in keeping with High-Def Digest's thoughts, basically.

Just got Vertical Limit, Sweeney Todd and Plant of the Apes Blu ray on rental.

10 minutes into Vertical Limit and holy shit! what a start to a film, one of the more spectacular first 10 minutes I've seen in a while :D was expecting something mediocre but with good visuals.

Hellboy, Men in Black and A Knights Tale also came, Men in Black was ok, nothing special, decent film to revisit n hi-def.

Now this is how you do a transfer of an old movie.... 56k beware!!! :lol

That is inexcusable. I was pissed that Michael Clayton was the same way. We shouldn't have to deal with plain old DD5.1 unless it's a nature documentary or an old film. Isn't DD Plus part of the Blu Ray spec? That's what Uni did a ton of, and with sometimes good results. But at the very least, you would be using a new audio format with DD Plus, even if not lossless. I think audio shouldn't be overlooked on HD discs.

Tried to watch Brothers Grimm on bluray last night. Wow. talk about HD making a film look ugly. Are there any that you thought looked great and now, looks terrible on HD? BG on bluray looked really cheap and ugly.

Saw Ratatouille. Reference? Didn't blow me away as much as Devil Wear Prade (for some reason, realism on bluray looks SO good when the transfer is excellent).

WAT?

devil wears prada is tier 4 (copper...not so good). I was quite impressed! :lol

I dont know if anyone has gotten their latest issue of Wired in the mail yet, but it comes with a free blu ray movie. A michael madsen film by the name of COMA and it is fucking terrible. its burned on a blu ray disc and ech...dont waste your time on it. it only displays in 720p and the acting and story is laughable. i almost wanna throw away the issue because this thing touched it.

I don't know if anyone has picked up the Godfather on Bluray, but I am very pleased with the transfer. They went through a painstaking process of making sure it retained the director's original intent. It was scanned at 4 times high definition than run through a comprehensive remastering process.

I ripped out that page and the Blu-ray the minute I saw it.

are the movies available seperate? or are they doing that thing like how spiderman and resident evil were only available in the 3 packs?

Nobody cared when I commented a couple of weeks ago about how great this release of HTWWW is, perhaps because there weren't any pics. :)

To be fair, the DVD comparison shot is from the original disc, which was a mess. The new DVD doesn't look anywhere near that bad, but yeah, the Blu-ray is as close to reference as it gets: one of the best transfers on the format, period. As far as Westerns go, the movie will seem a bit "quaint" for many people here, but I think it's highly entertaining and the sort of humongous all-star project that we'll never really see again.

It's still a bigger jump than vhs ---> dvd.
That one is, but most DVDs don't look that awful. I'd want my money back if I bought a DVD, which I still do occasionally when it's an older movie and it's cheap, and it looked that bad.

I own HTWWW on DVD and want it on blu-ray but come on guys, do you really think the dvd looked like that? That pic is a blurry mess. The dvd quality for that movie is pretty good.

I don't know if this is old, but 25% off coupon for the WB store (includes Blu Ray). code: WBCNV

edit
Why is their store so stupid to navigate through?

I'm using the speakers built into my tv. What's better to get 5.1 or 7.1. Also do they sell any good wireless speakers?

There's no such thing as good wireless speakers unless you're willing to fork out insane amounts. I'd just get a good small 5.1 package, like SVS, or Klipsch.

Just saw Speed Racer last night. WOW. What a HD showpiece. It's entirely artificial, but it's easily the most eye-catching HD movie I've seen so far. Absolutely perfect picture. Definitely a good number of holy shit moments. I actually liked the movie also.

Makes me want to play Wipeout HD ASAP.

Yeah the consensus is that Speed Racer is the best bluray to date, I know it blew me away with the picture quality. I love Wachowski Bros movies. There was a lot of good acting and that crazy guy from V for Vendetta was awesome too.

Also saw There Will Be Blood, man that was a great movie...what a trip.

just saw Day AFter Tomorrow on the new telly... damn, I've seen this so many times and I know its cheese but its still highly rewatchable. The CGI work/scenes are terrific on bluray. I'll find time after work tomorrow to watch startship troopers or Pan's.

I'll be playing Wipeout with the Speed Racer soundtrack. :)

Picked it up a week ago. Haven't got a chance to watch it yet.

Beaver put up a review last week; looks solid, if unspectacular. I've been waiting for almost two weeks for my copy to ship... Getting pretty annoyed.

Got my copies of The Mist and Pushing Daisies yesterday. The packaging for PD is beautiful under the slipcase. Easily Criterion-inspired. You who have seen it knows what I'm talking about.
