Am I reading this correctly...
If I wanted the full benefit of 1080p from 10 feet away, I'd want a 75" TV?
And the benefit of 1080p on a 50 inch 10 feet away isn't noticeable?

I'm trying to see if I'm reading it correctly.
but it looks to me that a 50" 1080p TV you benefit at 6 feet away

Yeah, and then at 10 feet there's no benefit? Might as well have 720p?

Tons upon tons of people sit 10 feet away from a 50inch. I guarantee.

My dad sits 10 feet away from a 32"

Holy fucking shit

The new Predator release has been DNR'd to hell and back. Seriously, this might be the worst case of DNR I've seen yet

He looks like hes made out of wax!! Entire movie looks smudged in vaseline.

Most viewers will think the movie has never looked better, especially with motion interpolation turned on!

in before "50ppp lol" crowd.

Bought a Denon AVR990 today, it should arrive later this week. It's one of the only receivers I could find that had enough S-Video inputs for my needs. I guess they decided that if us plebs need to connect something that old, we can just stick with RCA. It has an ethernet connection so I bought a wireless bridge to go with it.

Hopefully it works as advertised because I saw on AVS that a few people have talked about how it likes to brick itself during firmware updates. Which reminds me: when the heck did we start getting firmware updates for so many things in our life? I wouldn't be surprised if there are refrigerators that get firmware updates.

Oh shit, the writer of the piece even talks about how the DNR makes it look better than ever, argh!

Yes, I quoted myself.

Yeah, I went to the review presumably to read an entertaining and thorough lambasting of this shitty transfer from an obsessed AVP freak. What I saw instead was more akin to a loving blowjob.

Predator doesn't look all bad. This comparison is a nice improvement.

Picked up Predator last winter for 5$. I'm content with it. But I've been waiting on Stardust for a while.

Yup, this is another shot that makes the new version look better:

http://www.avpgalaxy.net/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/predatornew17.jpg

Note that not only there is no grain, but there is actually more detail in the new version, which is the opposite of what DNR usually does.
If this is new DNR tech, I'm all for it.

Wow the 2nd shot looks amazing.

The first comparison posted, 2nd pic looks too clean to me. :/

The 2nd shot is DNRed to HELL!! Look at the lost details and the waxy look. Ugh!! WTF!! I much prefer the first shot, which looks more natural.

just the first arnie pic with the red polo shot looks waxy but the other shots look fine to me.

New Predator transfer is just about guaranteed to look disgusting based on some of those waxy looking shots. The saddest thing is that they have probably done a new transfer for this, and then decided to DNR it to hell. Also, what's with the crazy lighting in some of those scenes with predator - aren't they supposed to be at night time?

You people are insane. It's people like you that made many DVD transfers riddled with DNR and edge enhancement. Thankfully we don't get as much of that with BDs despite the new Predator transfer.

I don't know what to think about the comparison shots of Predator. Some of them are right down nasty, but I'll admit some do look good.

I'm getting it anyways and I'll judge it by myself.

Ditto as it will still the best version of the film I've ever owned ....come to think of it, other than when I was a kid and watched my dad's VHS nonstop, i've never even owned my own copy!

Just finished watching Predator. It's not all bad. The scene being posted (arnold in the red shirt) is by far the worst. In that scene Dilan looks terrible, scarier than the Predator himself.

The rest of the movie is pretty good. I thought that by now, they would go back and re-do some of the effects, such as the laser beams. On Bluray, it's so evident that they were drawn in.

Also, I just wished the special features had more about the Predator, like the costume creation, concepts etc. The Alien movies had an amazing featurette about the creature creations. The one on this disc is the same one on the DVD (I think).

I've never seen BttF and I'm 31 years old. I've always absolutely loved time travel stories too.

I did briefly play one of NES games though, it was so confusing I couldn't advance at all :lol

Hell yes on BTTF.

Also, my mind can't quite wrap itself around the idea of someone having never seen these movies. :D
I was reading a news article yesterday about a 20-year-old murder finally being solved. I thought to myself, "wow, 20 years, Insane." Then I read the paragraph stating that it took place in 1990 and I had to process that for a moment.

How old are you?

22.

For some reason they're never aired on TV here, and shortly after I started buying DVD movies, I bought a PS3 and decided that from now on, I only buy Blu-Ray, so... yeah.

31?? that's fucked up. :P You (actually you) were the target demographic for the sequels when they came out.

and I know it's a few days after, but honestly for Predator, aside from the red shirt shot all of those other shots look improved. And I typically despise DNR (Flash Gordon for example is much worse for DNR).

If it makes any difference, I live in Jordan... third world developing country and all. And on top of that, I'm not a big movie watcher to begin with. Months can by without me watching a single movie.

There are many other "I can't believe you've never see that" films that I haven't seen... Wizard of Oz comes to mind.

Preach on brother. I've been asking for this for YEARS.

It's really the only thing the truly dates the movie. Fix that, and the movie is damn near perfect.

Is Deadwood that good? I've heard good things about it but unsure if I should pick up the first season.
