If I ordered from Amazon, will the $10 Disney coupon work? Do I just email them?
I thought I had heard that someone emailed them for Princess and the Frog and they took off $10. But I may be mistaken.

Amazon is very YMMV with those. Back during the Monsters Inc/UP deal days, they accepted it if you begged and begged and tried different reps. Chances are they wont accept it now. I imagine your Amazon purchase has shipped? You can simply "refuse" the package and just get it from TRU instead

Director James Cameron is unlocking the secrets of Pandora and taking fans on a guided tour of his vision with the highly anticipated release of AVATAR Extended Collector's Edition on Blu-ray and DVD releasing November 16th in North America and rolling out internationally from November 15th. These exclusive Extended Collector's Editions come with iconic, collectible packaging to get fans to experience Pandora like never before. With three versions of the film, AVATAR fans will get an all-new extended cut of the film and hours of never-before seen material including over 45 minutes of amazing deleted scenes!

"I told our team --- let's do the ultimate box set of Avatar, with everything in it the fans could possibly want. There's an extended length cut that's sixteen minutes longer, plus documentaries, behind the scenes featurettes, artwork and over 45 minutes of deleted scenes. Everything worth putting into a special edition is in this set," said James Cameron.

The three-disc AVATAR Extended Collector's Edition Blu-ray and Theatrical Special Edition Re-Release DVD will both feature the original theatrical release, a special edition re-release, family audio track with all objectionable language removed and new collector's extended cut with sixteen more minutes including an exclusive alternate opening Earth scene. Viewers will journey to the depths of Pandora with filmmakers during "Capturing Avatar" an in-depth feature length documentary covering the 16 year filmmaker journey including all new interviews with James Cameron, Jon Landau and cast and crew exploring James Cameron's unique vision for the film seen by more than 310 million people worldwide. The Oscar and Golden Globe winning epic is the highest grossing film of all time, taking in over $2.7 billion in worldwide box office. It is also the top-selling Blu-ray disc of all time.

The AVATAR Extended Collector's Edition Blu-ray will also have even more bonus material and interactive viewing. Through the unparalleled, interactive technology of Blu-ray, fans can dive further into the world of the Na'vi and experience the #1 international sensation from behind the scenes, with a "master class" on the production of the film. Leveraging the interactivity of Blu-ray, viewers can experience the full film in three stages of production: Performance Capture, Template (1990's video game version) and Final as well as a composite of all stages in "Pandora's Box". This will be supported with interviews by Jim Cameron and the filmmakers and serve as a "master class" on the making of AVATAR.

AVATAR Extended Collection's Edition: 3-Disc Collector's Edition Blu-ray:

Disc One

· Original Theatrical Version

· Special Edition Re-Release

· Collector's Extended Cut

  • 16 more minutes with exclusive alternate opening

. Family Audio Track (All Objectionable Language Removed)

Disc Two

· "Capturing Avatar" An in-depth feature length documentary with James Cameron, Jon Landau and cast and crew

· Deleted Scenes – including over 45 minutes of new never-before-seen deleted scenes

· Production Materials

Disc Three

· Open "Pandora's Box" and go deeper into the filmmaker process

· Interactive Scene Deconstruction: Explore the various stages of production through 3 different viewing modes

· Production Shorts: 17 featurettes covering performance capture, scoring the film, 3D fusion camera, stunts and much more

· Avatar Archives including original scriptment, 300 page screenplay and the extensive Pandorapedia

· BD-live Portal with additional bonus materials

Pretty amazing. You'll be able to watch the movie in live action with the actors in the motion capture stage, and also in the template format with what seems to be running commentary by all those involved. Too bad there is no vanilla commentary on the first disc though. Would have liked one with the cast.

Theres still a 3D version coming out as well right?

Let me get this straight. If I walk into TRU today, buy Beauty and The Beast on BD with that $10 coupon, and pre-order TS3 while I'm at it, I can get it for dirt cheap?

Yep. Walked out of the store with BatB for $2.99 (I didn't use any of my gift cards I got with my move games either so I can save that for my Toy Story or BTTF box set purchase). Maybe one of the cheapest Blu-rays I've ever gotten and it looks and sounds unbelievable. I tried to alert this to GAF's attention weeks ago but all I did was get mocked. Oh well, this is GAF I guess. :/

Best Buy does honor the $10 Disney coupon.

But it probably doesn't honor the extra $10 you get for per-ordering TS3. So, while still better than nothing, you can get this alot cheaper. Also I would say Best Buy is one of the last places I would go to with a coupon. It has taken me FOREVER to get coupons honored there. If you want another store that's closer to some of you, I'd suggest Target. I've never got hassle there coming in with coupons.

Some blu-ray screen shots of the BTTF trilogy can be found here.

I'm not too sure what to think of them since I am not an expert on HD, but I am still excited for this release.

I picked up the Beauty and the Beast Bluray last night and watched it with my gf. Stunning - picture wise and audio. The colours and sharpness made it look like a brand new movie. The beginning had a 3d effect - the depth was just amazing. Audio wise was great, mind you I only have a DTS\DD5.1 receiver so I can't comment on the 7.1. Perfect package.

Also has sneak peaks at Lion King Bluray set for Fall 2011 which looked amazing and Fantasia which I think comes out next month. Bambi and Dumbo are also slated for a Diamond release.

I thought the infamous BttF greenscreen shot looked like fake shit on VHS when I was six years old. On Blu Ray when I'm in my 20s it looks intolerable. Much as I enjoy BttF, I might skip it for HD.

Come live in Britain. we have Dumbo already.

Yea, that shot in particular does look pretty bad. I may get this when there is a price drop to ~$30, but I am in no hurry as I've seen all three movies plenty of times. Perhaps Black Friday will have the deal I am waiting for.

Not that great. EE and DNR. Not the worst transfer ever, but I'm very disappointed for such a high-profile release.

It's lacking in details. It's disappointing but in the end it's still BttF and I'm hyped. :D

It looked hilariously bad at the cinema on Sunday :lol

Pretty average, I'd say. It looks just how I suspected it would after seeing the remastering job in the cinema a few days ago. AVS has already dug up pictures of an HD broadcast version that hasn't been 'improved' and looks a lot better.

I'm certainly not going to criticise it for shitty 80s effects looking shitty, though. That's part of the charm :lol

  • Lost in Translation coming in January
  • The Color Purple and Malcolm X as well
  • Universal hasn't officially announced the following, but these titles are showing up in retailer systems and are likely going to be coming in 2011

    American Graffiti
    Babe
    A Beautiful Mind
    Billy Madison

    The Blues Brothers
    Dazed and Confused

WTB Aladdin (with Return of Jafar and King of Thieves as Extra bonus features!) :D

Also, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is already on Bluray, just bought it for $8 from HMV in Canada last month. Did I get some import or something without realizing it? :(

Man, it's already the third time I've bought this film (DVD, HD-DVD, Bluray) -- if some new killer edition came out on Bluray next year, man... :lol

Alliance frequently puts out catalog Blu-ray titles for cheap and with no special features in Canada before the US gets them, but the transfers are very hit and miss. Some of them are 1080i, have the incorrect aspect ratio etc. From what I've read the Canadian release of Eternal Sunshine is alright though.

As for Disney, when the Diamond Collection was originally announced, they included a list of titles, and since we know the 2011 lineup, Cinderella, The Jungle Book, Lady and the Tramp, The Little Mermaid, 101 Dalmations, and Peter Pan are the 2012-2014 titles. Assuming they keep to their two a year release schedule, Aladdin and others not in that list are 2015 at the earliest unless they release them as non-Diamond titles, like Dumbo will be.

Thanks for the info! And 2015 makes me weep; how brutal.

Billy Madison yessss. Best quotable movie ever.

I think this is my favourite line in the movie. It's funny because the same conversations happen today, except replace MKII with MW2 and Donkey Kong with Mario Galaxy :lol

DigitalBits has confirmed with Universal that those movies ARE coming.

Editor's Note: I've just confirmed directly with Universal that all these titles - and those mentioned this morning as well - are indeed scheduled for Blu-ray release by the studio in late 2010 and the first half of 2011. Expect them to be announced in progressive waves over the coming weeks and months.

Anyway, another great deal. Breaking Bad season 1 + 2 on Blu-ray for 35$. How is the quality? Is it worth it?

Apparently the quality is top notch and, based on the one episode I've seen, the show is amazing, so I just jumped on the deal. Thanks for the heads up!

How in the hell is GitS 2: Innocence sold out everywhere and now selling for triple its original price secondhand. I've never seen this happen with a regular edition DVD/BD. I see Sword of the Stranger is out of print too. Lesson learned, don't procrastinate with anime movies on BD.

I think the lesson is this: don't procrastinate on Bandai Blu-rays.

Excited to see Fast Times coming to Blu. I've got it on HD-DVD and it looks great. Love that movie and soundtrack, now it's timeless. It's completely different than what most have seen on TBS too, you really need to see it unrated/unedited. And not just for the perfect pair of breasts shown by Phoebe Cates.

Hadn't mentioned it on gaf yet but this is a good place to do so. Got a PS3 finally last week so I finally have bluray capability.

GF is excited because now we can play our 100+ used blus gotten at various hollywood video closings in the last year :lol

I'm excited just to be back in the HD movie game.

You had 100+ blu-rays but no blu-ray player for a year??

We haven't had 100+ blurays for a year but we've been buying cheap used ones for $3-$5 apiece when local video stores have been going out of business. In about a year we've gotten over 100. Also bought a few new here and there on deals.

It wasn't a huge priority to watch them right away, I knew I would get a PS3 at some point.

edit: Should also say I've got a large collection of HD-DVD, so the whole HD movie novelty had worn off. I was buying them more for the collection than to see them in HD right away. If I can buy the DVD that had been rented thousands of times over the past decade for $1 or buy the movie on blu for a couple dollars more and hadn't been used as much it was a no brainer for me. Even if I had to wait a few more months to see the movie.

Inception is up for pre-order on Amazon.com. :D

What kind of stuff have people gotten from Disney Movie Rewards? I just ordered 'Walt Disney Treasures - Your Host, Walt Disney' for 800 points yesterday.

Those stuffed animals and trinkets go for pretty damn good money on eBay if that's something you're interested in.
