Movie availability on Netflix has taken a dive for me recently. I've got BD *and* DVD stuff listed as very long wait that just doesn't seem like it should still be that popular. Stargate: Ark of Truth on DVD is very long wait, really?
Never underestimate the power of stargate nerds.

How much do you want for it? Never seen it, but always been intrigued by it :lol

IDK, its actually a pretty nice box set with 2 DVDs and the HD-DVD. I guess I should watch the DVDs and see if the porn is even watchable/jerkable, but it looks like the sort of heavily story driven crap that you have to fast forward through.

Seeing as I Am Legend BD is still #2 on Amazon and still outselling the DVD version there, I'm thinking the BD/DVD ratio may be the closest ever.
you mean online? I wouldn't be surprised since people who are sticking with DVDs would be getting them from Wal-Mart and the like. The BDs are so much cheaper on amazon too, there's no point in getting them from the stores.

HD porn sucks BTW, I've seen it. I mean the porn itself is terrible for some reason.

fixed.

So i was at the Rockets game last night and they were passing out copies of I Am Legend to a section in the crowd. No big deal right? Well i was watching and every single copy they passed out was the blu-ray version of the movie. Im sitting there thinking, theres probably one person in that entire section that has a blu-ray player.

You should have gone over to that section of the crowd, acted like a member of whatever group was passing them out and told the crowd that there was a mistake, you'd get them the DVD version if they just hand back the BD version.

...then come back here and present a giveaway to your fellow HD Movie Thread GAFers. :)

Got Ratatouille and it's a great movie but the image quality is mindblowing.
holy moly, no sign of color banding, poor black levels or anything.
It is the demo movie of choise.

so here we are, 5 days from a supposed "release" of Sweeny Todd and no news. I'm guessing it was a typo on BB's part.

definitely betting it was a typo. I'm hoping it's not, but I know it is :(.

It has been hinted a few times that there are still legal issues behind the scenes that are dealth with but the strings are still being cleared up.
Bill Hunt alluded to it a few days ago in a subtle fashion too.
Nobody will admit it, but I personally to not in any realistic sense to see any movies from Paramount before Mayish or early June.

If the 50gig issue is true, I wouldn't expect Uni or Paramount until 2009.

The 50 gigs issue is complete and utter bullshit that has been shot down by every single one of the insiders with not even a shred of possibility.

Gattaca arrived today. Beautiful movie, one of my favs. The PQ was great, not perfect, there was some grain where I felt there shouldn't be and one or two scenes could have had more detail, but impressive for a 1997 catalogue title. They did a great job. I recommend everyone picks it up.

Ah i didnt get my movies today. But Amazons customer service is sending a whole new order free of charge.

But it originally came from a pro-Blu insider as a way to bash Uni and Paramount for supporting HD-DVD.

A high failure rate on 50 gigs.

Actually its worse then most people imagine it straight up destroys the blu-ray player. The disks just turn into a gum substance when the laser hits them.

NO

The rumor is that the existing BRD supporting studios have already been given the entire 2008 allocation of 50gig discs, leaving any new studios like Uni or Paramount to be stuck with 25gig discs if they wish to put movies out on the format this year.

That's actually not true Mana..They are building more Replicators..I know they built four more alone recently to handle more disk production and a certain amount was still free.

I bought a couple off the waltmart sale: Apoc/Ladder 49/Enemy of the state and Pirates1.

Can someone PLEASE tell me how to open Blu-Ray movies without leaving sticky residue all over?

The ones I've been buying have 3 security stickers (top, side, bottom). The top one always comes off fine but the side and bottom stickers never peel off easily. By the time I'm done the area where the sticker was is all sticky and crap... Hope it's not just me having trouble with this :lol

In before people make excuses for this practice and tell you just to deal with it.

It pisses me off too, I always have to bust out the Goo Gone to get that shit off.

Well Konami is going to need probably close to 5M BD50s for 2008 due to MGS4. When you figure the best selling BD50 movie only sold a few hundred thousand units, it puts things into perspective.

Your lack of a sarcasm detector makes even Sony blush, or something.

What the hell did they do with the Netflix queue? Now I can't tell what movies on my queue are on the Blu-ray format.
You just gotta take it on faith, Mr. Jazar!

Yeah, it's really disconcerting. The way they also keep highlighting that this is your DVD queue doesn't help. I keep running to check my settings that I've still got BluRay set as my preference.

Holding out hope that it's just a lingering "glitch" from earlier this week that they'll fix shortly.

I got it last week. But still haven't watched it. Gonna do it tonight :D

Who the hell would make excuses for it? It sucks, its annoying and i end up using goo gone as well.

They busted it after their very convenient 24 hour downtime, and then supposedly unrelated site redesign. People bitched at the official blog instantly, and they said it was a bug and they would fix it soon.

For now, you go into the movie detail page, like: http://www.netflix.com/Movie/Juno/70077553?trkid=226871 and then click on the "In Queue" button in the upper left, and it says what version you have chosen, and gives the option to change it.

I hope they fix it because I liked having the option of changing from DVD to Blu-ray for a specific title. Also, I have Walk Hard on my queue and it doesn't seem to know that a BD title is comming out day and date. :/

edit: Ah thanks for the tip Jim! Glad to hear that they are correcting this.

i've had this problem before but i figured out a way to take them off without leaving the residue now.

you peel a little of it off on one corner then you grab it and you pull it fast to take it off. IF you go slow the residue stays but if you do it really fast and all in one motion there should be little to no residue left over and you should be able to take out the sticker in one attempt.

Hey Onix, can you recomend me some good SACDs and or DVD-a's? I like all types of music from metal, to blues, bluegrass, jazz. Pretty much anything but pop.

Want to do a trade for it or are you willing to sell it? I really liked that movie but never got around to buying it. Do you have a BD player yet?

I owned a PS3 for almsot an entire year before I got my first HD-DVD player. Do you have a list of what you have for trade?

Actually, let me get back to you on that. I'm just about to order an Oppo 980, and go on an SACD and DVD-A binge (previously did not have a DVD-A player).

If I don't post ... send me a PM to remind me.

I can tell you that A TON of jazz and orchestral music is on SACD though, I know that for sure. Also, pretty much the entire Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Rolling Stones, and Bob Dillon catalogs are available (Genesis is a bit expensive though) ... as far as full discographies.

No problem. I used a CoinStar at my local grocery store to get rid of my giant jar of coins (pennies, nickels, and dimes ... NO quarters) ... and decided to get an Amazon gift card to avoid any fees.

Ended up being just over $160

o_o

:lol

Might as well use it for the 980 ... I've been eyeing it up for a while, and now that my pre/pro finally showed up ... its time to pull the trigger.

Noice. I started doing something like this, only i have a ton of quarters cause everything is rounded at the cafeteria at work.

so i got my HP laptop with blu-ray drive yesterday. Unfortunately you have to use HP's shit software to run blu-rays. The software definitely leaves a little to be desired.
