Anyone getting the Austin Powers set? Those are pretty terrible movies, maybe except the first one. I hope no one who complained about the Matrix set is buying the AP set.

No way, I disagree big time. Only Goldmember sucked, and even then its not even in the same plane of suck as the latter two Matrix movies.

Sitting here watching The Two Towers on TNT in HD. This just makes me want a true HD release of these awesome as hell movies even more.

It just looks SOOOOOOOOOOO damn good.
I'll triple dip like a fiend for the EEs in high def.

You won't be able to listen to the lossless tracks (ie TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, PCM) but your still good to go with DD5.1 and DTS.

Incidentally if you ever decide to upgrade you'd only need a receiver that has HDMI which accepts multi channel uncompressed PCM audio. That's because the PS3 decodes TrueHD and DTS-HD MA into PCM then passes that to your receiver.

great, thanks :)

Again with the Reloaded hate :(

And people forget about the HD Animatrix included.

which reminds me...it's awesome they are retailing all the movies seperate rather than one case like spiderman was. I only need the first matrix because frankly I'd like to imagine the following films were awesome instead of what they where........

Same :(

Also, wtf at the walle prices... they won't really be that much will they?

always remember to buy the first week they are out. its 40.99 is the price it quotes chances are sales at targets will release for 30-35 which isn't bad for a 3 disc blu ray set.

I just noticed that 300 has both Dolby True HD 5.1 and PCM 5.1. If I'm running my BD movies on my PS3 with an Onkyo TX-SR606, which option should I be selecting?

Ultimately, they should be identical. A TrueHD track is just a compressed (but still lossless) PCM track. Ideally you would want to try both since one may have better mixing than the other, and therefore sound better to you.

My friend has the ability to play both and he swears that PCM sounds better than TrueHD. Just more 'punch' to it, if you know what I mean.

In theory they should sound identical, but the fact is that TrueHD (and DTS-HD MA) has to be decoded to PCM at some point anyway, so you might as well avoid the possibility of whatever hardware is processing the audio introducing its own little 'improvements'.

I don't get this practice of having PCM and uncompressed tracks on the same movie. Is there any benefit, given that if your system can handle TrueHD or DTS-HD it can handle PCM? I'd much rather have one uncompressed/lossless track and one lossy option - preferably at the full 1.5Mbps - and the rest given over to the video.

Goldmember sucked outside of the "Hard knock life" part :lol

Picked up Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 1 last Tuesday, watched it in a couple of sittings... I wasn't expecting much, so I was very pleasantly surprised with it. More than anything, though, it got me in the mood for my TV on Blu-ray, so I blind purchased Prison Break Season 1 day before yesterday (I know, expensive ass blind buy :lol ). I ended up being really happy with both the quality of the release and the show itself. Too bad for Fox that they haven't had a chance to get Season 2 on Blu-ray yet, or they'd probably be able to sell me the next two seasons in one go. As it stands, I'll be waiting until they release Season 2 to even consider picking up 3.

I just watched the first 20 minutes of Afro Samurai and I did enjoy it quite a bit. I think It looks pretty good in HD too but im not the best judge of PQ.

Im also not the anime watching type, but id say its pretty good. Very bloody

You know what I would KILL for? A proper Blu Ray release of The Land Before Time. Not this 4:3 horrible-transfer for-kids cack that is the only real DVD release. One totally remastered, in widescreen, with a 5.1 soundtrack, and treated with RESPECT. One that acknowledges that the audience for a Blu Ray release of this movie is adults that grew up on the movie, and wants to see it treated like the classic it is, not awash with sing-alongs and mentions of the unmentionable sequels. I will pay fat dollars for this product.

Then do the same thing for An American Tail.

How come The Nightmare Before Christmas is 30 bucks on Amazon I thought it would at least be like 23.00 - 21.00.
I think Disney upped their MSRPs because they're including digital copies, which is retarded.

You, sir, have great taste in cartoons. Those were both staples of my childhood.

Finally saw Persepolis on Blu-ray. Wow, what a great movie. Considering it's nearly 100% hand drawn and animated, it looks fantastic in HD. Extremely solid colors (well when there are colors), shading and linework.

You'll want to keep an eye out for Waltz with Bashir in the coming months. There's a Blu-ray coming out overseas, so hopefully the same will be true in the US when it eventually hits a disc release.

I know this is not the Blu-ray vs Toshiba thread, but Toshiba seems to be pushing their new DVD really hard. I saw this one-page-ad for their new fantastic upscaling DVD-player (according to them) in USA Today this morning.

I wonder if people who are interested in HD will go for this or get a Blu-ray player...

WTF happened to the whole initiative where they would put an SD version on the BD that you could copy to your PSP?

I can't believe anyone would fall for that anymore than fall for all the other HDMI upscaling DVD players that use HD in their marketing. i.e lots of people :P

didn't see it mentioned in here, but personally I am VERY excited for this:

Confirming previous rumors, Disney has announced a November Blu-ray debut for Pixar's 'Wall•E,' which will come to Blu-ray with exclusive content and Digital Copy.

As previously reported, Disney had earlier alerted retailers to a November 18 Blu-ray release for the Pixar blockbuster (day-and-date with the DVD), but the studio stopped short of officially announcing the date to the press or issuing specs.

The first confirmed details are now in, with Disney bringing 'Wall•E' to Blu-ray as a two-disc edition, along with single-disc and three-disc DVD configurations.

Extras on the Blu-ray will contain all of the DVD bonus features, including audio commentary with director Andrew Stanton, five featurettes ("Animation Sound Design: Building Worlds from the Sound Up," "Sneak Peek: WALL-E's Tour of the Universe," "The Pixar Story by Leslie Iwerks," "BnL Shorts," "Wall-E's Treasures and Trinkets"), deleted scenes, the new animated short: "Burn-E" and a "Lots of Bots" storybook.

Included on a second disc will be a Digital Copy of the film (in standard-def) playable on PCs and other portable video devices.

Exclusive to the Blu-ray release will be additional picture-in-picture commentary, and a suite of three as-yet-untitled interactive games

can't wait. my favorite film of the year and possibly favorite animated movie of all time.

I read an article that said the difference between this upscaling and regular upscaling dvd players was negligible, so it seems like hype anyway. Besides, there is no comparison when you take into account the more vivid colors, lack of compression artifacts, and added detail of HD discs.

Really, I wish Toshiba would make BD players. There's a large market for them if they can find a way to price themselves lower than Sony. The BD standalone player market is a joke right now.

Is this the same thing as the Fox ones where it's an Itunes download and "other portable video devices" really means "ipod"? I'm getting the movie regardless, but besides an iphone I have a Zune and a PsP and I'd want to be able to spread my media around to all three.

I'm picking up Nightmare Before Christmas on my way to work today so I may have something on it tomorrow.

I did pick up that Justice League Season One Bluray set. I have to say overall i'm impressed and happy I got it. Since DVD's look like crap on my TV now I was really just looking for some episodes of Justice League that weren't pixelated and smudgey. Not only was the picture crisp and clear but the colors were more vibrant and details were amazing. I was upset about no widescreen but I left it at the normal ratio with no stretching and got to use it. Especially for the episodes in space I just imagined the sides were space too. Since they don't really have a widescreen version it would have been just cropped anyways ala the new DBZ dvds. The sound is was it is for a cartoon but well worth a pickup especially if you don't have the dvd version.

Apparently the director intend for the show to be in widescreen:

Highdefdigest.com said:
A lot of debate has already raged over Warner Brothers' choice in this matter -- the series’ creators wanted the show to be presented in widescreen when it first aired (and animated each episode in a manner that would allow them to be cropped), but the Cartoon Network execs thought it would alienate viewers. Warner doesn’t seem too interested in the creators’ wishes either. The widescreen episodes, referred to as the “producer preferred” versions, still exist, but haven’t been included with this release.

I never watched Justice League, I am intrigued and was considering buying it but this no-widescreen issue is making me hesitant.

Like I said, they would be cropped. You are getting the whole picture the way they are right now. They drew the episodes though so that they could be cropped to widescreen, which they did air that way for Justice League Season 2.

After watching most of the episodes and being pretty peeved at no widescreen option on the disc I can say i'm over it and that should not keep someone from getting this set.

Picked up my copy of Afro-Samurai from Best Buy. I'm not sure if I'm going to open it or return it yet. I noticed that is says "season 1" on the cover. I thought it was a complete mini-series of sorts. Is it worth the $14 I paid for season 1? Is season 1 a complete story in itself?

I sdaw an advert for their new laptops featuring their super upscaling on TV here in the UK. I could not believe they had the gall to pull it off.

There's only one season and I think it's 6 episodes or something.

really liking how more and more tv are coming out on Bluray - the price point on bluray tv series I feel are also a lot more reasonable - I remember when damages (which I really wanted was about 60+ usd) - now band of brother is 60+ (but worth every cent) and most new tv series out on bluray are coming out at the $23-30 mark. Excellent!

I'm not buying anything (If I can help it) - til near xmas to see if there are sales galores.

Keep in mind that most new TV series that are coming out now (e.g. - Terminator:SCC & Heroes S2) have less episodes then usual due to the writers strike. Shorter seasons = cheaper sets.

Nightmare Before Christmas looks and sounds amazin. Menus are a bit slow, but I love it.

7.1 TrueHD is awesome. Forced previews that you have to skip are not.

damn thing was sold out at the BB I went to so I settled for Robin Hood and Afro Samurai. I was thinking of getting Heroes (and a few weeks ago I was set on getting Heroes) but I think I'll wait for S3 to see if it's worth bothering. I loved a lot of the S1 episodes and would like to have them but I'll wait.
