I don't think either of us meant it as any sort of fanboys... the keep dreaming part I'm pretty sure just implies that MS has NO desire for blu-ray, for whatever reason, and these rumors and reports keep cropping up just because people, for whatever reason, want to persist the belief that it will happen.

For the reason I believe it won't happen, well.. MS sees actual money through their DD store. Not only will they likely see very little money (if any) from a BD drive, but the only reason to purchase said drive would be to buy movies of which they will see NO money from. At the same time, the format will take money directly away from their video store which they do see money on. Sure you could argue that the same thing could happen if someone just owns a PS3 or stand alone player, but if someone doesn't own one of those, then MS would be taking money directly out of their pockets by enabling it.

It's not fanboism, it's just business 101. The same reason Apple doesn't offer a Mac with a blu-ray drive, yet hypes HD movies over iTunes with an AppleTV.

Mmmmm... The Sleeping Beauty transfer almost looks too good. If one can see the cell layers too clearly it would kinda ruin the illusion.

Well I wasn't referring to you, obviously. The keep dreaming part did piss me off, and I certainly didn't interpret it the way you did. About the BD drive on 360, we'll see. I'm pretty certain it'll happen, and personally I'd like to see more folks with BD drives buying BD movies.

Currently, none of my friends buy BD movies, so it's not like dvd where I could borrow friend's movies once in a while. And only two places sell BD movies.

DreamWorks has some big Blu-ray news for you - Ben Stiller's hit comedy 'Tropic Thunder' is rolling into stores this November in a never-before-seen unrated director's cut version.

Co-starring Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., and a barely-recognizable Tom Cruise, the $100 million-plus grossing Hollywood satire will hit Blu-ray on November 18 (day-and-date with single-disc and two-disc DVD editions).

Presented in an unrated Director's Cut, tech specs will see a BD-50 dual-layer presentation with 1080p video and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio.

Extras include audio commentary with Ben Stiller, Jack Black, and Robert Downey Jr., multiple featurettes ("Blowing Shit Up," "The Hot LZ," "7 Cast of Tropic Thunder Features," "Make-up test with Tom Cruise"), a "Full Mags" feature with introduction by Stiller and editor Greg Hayden, and MTV Movie Awards clip, mock "Rain of Madness" trailer and a DreamWorks Public Service Announcement.

Suggested retail price for the Blu-ray has been set at $39.95

Unrated Tropic Thunder? Can't wait for even more outrageous stuff to be added. I loved this movie. I don't think I laughed this hard in a loooong time.

this time in DVDs lifespan, I also had no one else buying DVDs and every place sold them, but it was like an aisle at best buy and circuit city and maybe two sections or three at suncoast. pretty much where I expected blu-ray to be if it matched DVD (which it has). I wouldn't expect things to change until next fall at the earliest.

of course with all of the other HD sources nowadays, I wouldn't expect the mass buying of Blu-rays like we saw in DVD. I mean people will show up for the big classics and big new releases, but looking at mine and the wife's DVD collection... Lost in Space? Bandits? Never Been Kissed? With the option to rent HD movies now I don't see shit like that EVER making it into our Blu collection, which for most will be a big departure from the early DVD days.

Watching Sleeping Beauty in 1080p was the film experience of the year so far for me.

So amazing.

Cannot wait until the rest of the Disney (and Ghibli) collection are available in Blu-ray.

the best part of the Sleeping Beauty BRD was the DVD that came with it. I get enough grief from my wife about how we can't take the Blu-Ray discs with us when we travel that this is something I wish more people would get behind. That or the digital copy because I can take the digital copy on my iPod and use the TV cable to watch it.

overkill much?

wow.....too bad the movie sucked major scrotal region.

they should have saved that nifty case for some other more worthy movie.

That's a lot for a movie like Wanted, it didn't suck major scrotal region but it's a tad excessive, much like the movie.

No, they did it on the last Harry Potter movie on HDDVD.

Everything Miyazaki ever touched should be available in 1080p right now. It's practically a crime against humanity that they're not all available in the best possible quality.

My eyes have been raped by Sleeping Beauty, IMHO it is one of the best if not the best looking Blu-ray to date. Everything is so crisp and the colors pop so well. This is the first Blu-ray I watched on my PS3 (previously I was buying Blu's but watching them on my roommates PS3).

Also I don't think anyone has mentioned this but everyone that owns Sleeping Beauty on Blu should go to the "Sneak Peek" section on the 1st disc and watch the blu-ray trailers for Pinocchio (sp?) and Wall-E. Wall-E looks awesome as expected, but the Pinocchio trailer really amazed me on how sharp the picture looked.

I'm restraining myself from buying any blu-rays right now, I want to wait for some good holiday sales to jump on many of the titles I have on my wish list.

You and I both friend.

Sleeping Beauty was pretty good...I'm honestly shocked. It was decent movie too, my girlfriend LOVES it so it was a double win.

HAHA awesome. texting and fapping while Jolie is on the screen...LOL

Dudes pretending they're girls, I can see it now

fuck yeah, Best Buy put out Diary Of The Dead 10 days early. :D Good to finally have this, but it's kinda annoying having this set of Dawn of the Dead, DoTD 04, Day Of The Dead, Land Of The Dead, and Diary Of The Dead on Blu-ray without Night of the Living Dead being released.

Are there any plans to release it over here? I know the UK version is region locked.

im sure someone will enventually get it out here. it's only a matter a time and most likely it will come from anchor bay. at least I hope so because they did a fantastic job with the thing and dawn of the dead's restoration.

Wow, I'm surprised... Diary Of The Dead looks as great as Cloverfield. As for the movie, I was kind of iffy on it when I saw it in the theater but it's pretty damn good on a second viewing.

Went to the store and on an impulse buy bought the mummy and speed racer. I'm watching the mummy tonight and the transfer is fantastic. I'm already a sucker for the mummy series and they haven't looked this good ever. the desert scenes are incredible and the detail is awesome.

I'm saving speed racer for tomorrow morning, but from what everyone has already stated in this thread I'm in for a major treat when I watch that one.

O yeah and I didn't know bluray.com had a collection feature for members..this is awesome

Finally got round to watching Pan's Labyrinth last night, which has been sitting in a lovefilm envelope for so long they even sent me a 'gentle reminder' that perhaps I could send it back?

Great film. surprisingly violent - that bottle scene near the beginning is very ouch!

Made my wife cry too, which is a good sign :)

has anyone heard of the play.com 3 blu rays for 2 bug?

apparently someone was able to buy 6 blu-rays for £55 or so, because sometimes when you add an item twice it will discount both of them. I can confir that the basket at least has this bug, but I have not been able to check out with it so far, seems to always correct itself (kind of) in the checkout system.

I better not get banned for this, but at one stage I had 10 blurays in my basket for £70! and that was counting spiderman trilogy as 1 item! Didnt checkout though.

Actually while I was writing this I tried again and I can checkout the following:

Spiderman Trilogy @ £23
Pans Labyrinth x 2 @ £17.99
Transformers x 2 @ £1.99
Bee movie - £1.99

for £65.

So effectively I am getting an extra bluray for free. CEX offers £13 for Transformers and Pan's so I could raise £52 from selling those 4 or £56 if I do a gamestation price match. Leaving me with Spiderman and Bee Movie costing £9....

I'm sure this can be re-worked to get some awesome deals for blurays you actually want to keep though.

I saw Be Kind Rewind last night. Looked good aside from the homemade movies part. The sound was DTS HD MA 7.1, but the movie itself doesn't have much kick in its sound anyway. I really liked the first half, but the movie took a massive dive for the worst in the second half. What the heck happened?

Have you shopped there before? I'd never heard of them, but I couldn't pass up Semi Pro for $13 shipped. I'm also debating NCFOM.

dont debate, buy...NCFOM is an awesome movie and looks amazingly detailed.

Oh, I've seen it, but I've been trying to stay away from that type of violence in purchases, with family and all. But yeah, that's a great price for that movie. I ordered Semi-Pro, so I'll let you guys know how long they take to ship.

Yeah, when I saw it I noticed the same thing. There is a lot in the movie that isn't explained fully (if at all) and these little things add up. The sci-fi part could have been left out entirely. (and do we really need to see magnetic pee?)

There's a very nice buy 3 for 2 deal at Amazon UK if anyone is intersted.
I really want to grab some of them, especialy Transformers, SM Trilogy and NCFOM (if they're region free, since my PS3 is from the US).

The thing that's really nice with Amazon UK is that for some reason, once I add an item to my cart, the price drops in a few pounds, which is quite significant IMO. That, plus low cost shipping, makes it quite an ideal place for shopping region free movies.

The problem is that first of all I don't have money, and that Iron Man hasn't arrived yet, so I don't know how my HD future will be. Maybe I won't see a major difference and stay with DVD, though I doubt it.

Sleeping Beauty.. words cannot do it justice.

Disney, if your future re-releases even approach the quality of this restoration, every single one will be purchased.

It just blows my mind that this was released in 1959
What an amazing restoration job :D

Walt Disney would be proud!

I really regret buying that playstation 3. I am now constantly wanting to buy blu-rays lol I really wasn't considering picking up Sleeping Beauty at all but love it is getting in this thread has changed my mind. I will probably have to go pick it up later tonight. I heard that it has some pretty amazing blu ray live features, have any of you guys checked them out?

If you have any interest in the movie at all, it's a must buy.
I'd still rent it even if you dislike the movie, just to see the awesome transfer/restoration :D

Has anyone gotten the Ray Harryhausen boxset that just came out? Im really tempted to pick it up, although I dont like how it comes with '20 Million Miles to Earth' since I alread own it.

I'd really like to get this, but can't justify the price, and since 20MMtE never shows up in any of the Blu-ray sales, it seems unlikely this set is going to come down any time soon. The full-res captures (Sea, Saucers, Sinbad) on DVD Beaver look great, though.

I have a couple for question for UK people:

what day do new Blu-Rays come out in the UK
are there any websites with reliable release dates / new releases in the UK

Thanks!

In case anyone was interested, Transformers and Pan's Labyrinth duos have been sent out. After my debating for puirchases last week, this came along at the perfect time.

Cars, Transformers, and The Nightmare Before Christmas - £33 -4% quidco = £31

Spiderman Trilogy
Pan's Labyrinth
Pan's Labyrinth
Transformers
Transformers
Bee Movie
- 5% voucher
- 4% quidco
= £59

Sell:
Transformers
Transformers
Pan's Labyrinth
£14 each at gamestation = £42

So final list =
Spiderman Trilogy
Pan's Labyrinth
Transformers
Bee Movie
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Cars
= £48 (£8 each! or £6 each if you count Spiderman as 3 movies)

Fucking A.

and I just got my free Cloverfield Bluray from Tesco's 14 day DVD rental trial.

FFS what am I doing with all these purchases!

Blu-rays come out on a Monday just like DVDs.
Play.com or most retailers should give you a good schedule.

I watched Speed Racer, Nightmare Before Christmas, and Sex in the City this weekend.

Speed Racer was a pleasant surprise. I enjoyed the film and the transfer is astounding. I think this film will have a cult following. I may even pick it up.

Nightmare was cute but not as good as I expected it to be. There were some genuinely entertaining moments but I just felt bored at times.

Sex in the City was painful. My wife even acknowledged after the film was over that it was painful to watch. I needed almost 12 hours to get my testosterone levels back to normal.
