so should i buy this? i'm in canada, and i really want Sin City in HD... is this a normal/good version, or some cheaper version?

I dunno. I have it pre-ordered, but I may cancel. It is possible the US may get a better transfer with more extras.

Also, the movie isn't the director's cut, just the theatrical edition (depends whether or not you care).
 
Okay Paramount, why are you releasing older stuff on bluray but you haven't releases TITANIC yet?! I'm still waiting!

watching Alien vs Pred Requiem. Goddamn its boring as hell, and so damn dark. I can't see shit most the time, I dont know if its because my settings are screwed, but I'm pretty sure I've optimised it for the most part (matches recommended settings on forums etc).

such a mockery of the Alien survival horror-like tradition. tempted to just switch it off. eugh.

Deja Vu and Ronin are next on the list. Which should I watch first.

Just watched Pirates 1 on bluray. I got the good version with my tripleboxset movie. :D Quite fantastic on bluray. A bit of noise in the darker scenes but overall it was superb looking. Also watched a bit of deadmans chest and that looked great as well.

The CG fight scene with barbossa + sparrow jumping in and out of moonlight and changing into skeleton looked flawless in highdef. Very talented the cg team at ILM who did the work.
 
I saw The Happening last night. Not nearly as bad as some of the reviews I read (including the one on highdefdigest), but it's not that good either. Easily a rental, and easily better than Lady in the Water. I'll rank the movies I've seen for M. Night at:

1. Sixth Sense
2. Signs
3. The Village
4. Unbreakable
5. The Happening



6. Lady in the Water

The PQ seemed a bit soft at times, and it's mostly a gray-looking movie anyway. Some of the outdoor scenes in the fields of Pennsylvania looked really good. The audio was nice. A DTS HD 5.1 mix that pushed the few scary scenes the movie actually had.
 
I don't know why I rank Unbreakable 4th. It's not that I don't like it, it's probably the pacing. A little bit too slow. And I realize that his trademark is slow films anyway, but for some reason I found Unbreakable to have too many spots where you're just grinding through without any real sense of tension or anticipation, unlike Village (at least the first time you see it).
 
I saw 10,000 BC last night. I think I'm going to make it a habit to go into these low rated movies with very low expectations and after reading up on the plot. Just like The Happening, this movie was nowhere near as bad as I'd read. The main actors were terrible, yes, but the movie was interesting to follow, looked fantastic on Blu Ray, and sounded incredible.
 
Watched Iron Man for the first time last night, twas awesome. I want more Stark nao!
 
Anyone have any comments on the Matrix collection? I enjoy all 3 movies, but I wasn't sure if there is a significant quality upgrade or not. Has anyone picked this up yet?

it took them FOREVER to get it out on DVD and when they finally did it was non-anamorphic, and this was AFTER almost everyone had standardized on 16:9. The 10th anniversary release they had was ok in terms of quality, but as I understand the rights to the movie, Cameron has to sign of on any sort of video release.. and with the control freak he is and as long as he is working on Avatar, I wouldn't expect this anytime soon. :\

Fortunately if you can stand commercials this plays on TNT pretty regularly and looks gorgeous (provided you have TNT-HD of course).
 
anyone know if the target special edition for the hulk packaging is worth it?

is it pretty much the throw away packaging they got with iron man or what?
 
Honestly, I would love to know what's the deal with "The Wedding Crashers". It was one of the more recent comedies that I actually enjoyed. They've used it in older commercials to promote Blu-Ray, and it's STILL not in sight of a release date. What is the deal with this already? Or did I happen to miss the answer to this?

This is one of that strangest situations I've seen in regards to Blu-Ray/Movies.

Over the DVDs, hell yes. And the Animatrix is all in HD, unlike the HD DVD release.
 
Oh my fucking god, A History of Violence. Yes. That brings the David Cronenberg Blu-ray release count up to three (The Fly, Eastern Promises, and this).

Now if only Criterion would get on top of announcing some of the Cronenbergs they've released on DVD... I'd love to upgrade my copies of Videodrome and Naked Lunch.

Both A History of Violence and Wedding Crashers are outstanding catalog releases. Will double dip on both easily.
 
why do people like wedding crashes. I thought it was quite dreadful and unfunny. And on that matter, History of Violence is terrible as well. I thought we were talking about the russian one with Wyatts but we're not talking eastern promises (which is good). History of Violence is pretty bad. Now that I think about it, the wife + wife in HOV + Mummy3 are the same woman and I disliked her in both.
 
Wedding Crashers is IMHO the second best all-out comedy in recent years only behind Superbad. Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, and especially Isla Fisher and Christopher Walken all put in outstanding performances not to mention a hidden gem from Jane Seymour. It is really the perfect ode to the R-rated 80s comedies, well, WAS the perfect ode to those until Superbad came along.

History of Violence is pretty much a scene chomping movie. Fortunately there are some excellent scene chompers in it making it entertaining to watch.
 
I thought Superbad was well, super bad. Just awful. With that said, I do endorse the Wedding Crashers praise. I generally hate Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, yet I love this movie to death. Will definitely pick up the BD of it.

How can you praise Wedding Crashers without going into the ultimate cameo performance of all time.

was ready to kill Owen Wilson with nunchucks, for crying out loud. :lol

edit: Superbad was very funny, but Wedding Crashers holds up better in multiple viewings.

I find that those that dont like FSM liked superbad and those that didnt like Superbad liked FSM.


It was funny the other day a friend came over and asked if we had seen FSM, then he was like what was the deal with showing the guys penis. He also didnt think it was that great.
 
I'm off to buy the 3 Connery Bond movies that came out today. My dad kept all of the bond movies when I moved out permanently after college, so I dont have any of them.. so I may as well buy the best version.

Also, I just remembered I hate one of the Connery moives, those two assassins in Diamonds are forever really bug me.
