You sir are the exception to the rule. lol
I think you're the first I have seen say they liked both.

Where do I fall then? I never thought superbad was as good as everyone hyped it to be.
other than the whole childish penis obsession flashback
but I loved FSM. Although SB was a funnier movie, FSM was just, to me, a better movie overall in terms of plot and characters

So, best buy has the bond movies in a metalbook case. pretty nice.

They didnt have From Russia with Love though. GRRRR.

So now I have to find it at a blockbuster so I get the metalbook.

That's true, most people don't seem to like FSM and Superbad. I don't like the latter.

Also Wedding Crashers is great, Jane Seymour fantasies...

was not pleased with the selection. the only movie in there that I am dying for is Monster House, but considering Sony is content leaving its MSRP at $38.95 after 2 FREAKING YEARS, I'm still gonna have to pass on it.

well you can still take advantage of that deal by buying used. that's what I plan on doing as well as saw 1 and 2 (the only 2 good saw films IMO)

Wait, this deal works with Amazon Marketplace as well?

WTF? I decided to pick-up From Russia With Love today and I was promised movie cash towards Quantum of Solace but there is nothing inside.

October 21st continues to be a cluster fuck:

From Russia With Love (No movie cash inside)
The Incredible Hulk Fuck up
Little Big Planet Delay
Fable II DLC Fuck up.

At least I got Little Big Planet.

watched the Hulk and while the PQ is a little soft, HOLLY shit at the DTS HD track, probably the best thing I have heard on any DVD/BR just perfect all around.

Just got 42" 1080p television... my PS3 is melting my eyes. I watched Heroes last night and it was sharper than reality.

well, you know the feeling you get when you know the cashier is lying? And you can tell that they know you know they're lying? That's what happened to me when she said "nope, we never got it in." *shifty eyes*

i found movie average but PQ is numero uno.

So you fellas weren't kidding about Sleeping Beauty. Looks amazing. But even more amazing was the sound. That DTS HD 7.1 track was unexpected. Woah.

THE MOVIE MONEY IS ON THE LITTLE STICKER ON THE CELLOPHANE WRAPPER.. there is a code on the back of that sticker.

Also, you could probably just pull it off the case and get free movie money.

So, I watched Dr. No and was pretty happy.

Its obviously not Ironman or anything as far as PQ goes, but the audio is reference quality IMO. Very good.

The Picture is pretty good, lots of detail. Color pallete is a bit too red and the image is slightly soft, but thats the way movies were shot back then.

It is a very nice improvement over the DVD's. Great detail, great black level, great color reporduction. It looks very film like. No 3d pop of course, but this looks like I would imagine it looked in theaters.

The image is 16:9 though, was this the OAR or did they hack it up?

WTF? That shit is terrible. I just tired peeling it off and it started ripping apart. Who the fuck came up with that? I've managed to piece the code together though.

I dont know. I almost through them away. Would not have been happy.

Maybe thats why they did it that way?

Ugg,

the bond movies used a few tricks I hate.

1) They shot Day for Night. Meaning their "nightime" shots were done during the day with a filter on the camera. Its convincing enough, except everything casts shadows like it was shot during the day.

2) The "in car" shots that were filmed in front of a projector.

I know these are movies from the 60's and thats how they rolled, but I hate some of the techniques they use to use.

After watching part of Thunderball I'm willing to give it a 4/5 for PQ and a 5/5 for audio.

and 5/5 for hot women.

my best buy had tons of all the steelbooks, but I'm not convinced to by all six movies.. so give the the quintessential flicks of the ones released to buy GAF!

The 3 Connery movies (Thunderball, From Russia with Love, Dr. No) are no brainers. Those are the 3 I am going to get (I got two, I need to find the steelbook for From Russia with Love.

Die another day should be avoided at all costs. Probably the worst Bond movie ever made.

The two Roger Moore movies are a matter of taste. I liked Live and Let die when I was a kid, but it has some weird Voodoo stuff in it. I didnt care for it when I rewatched it a few years back. It also has a really fake looking crocodile attack as well as a completely over the top death scene for the bad guy.

For Your eyes only is a pretty good movie.. One of the Stronger Moore movies, but the Moore movies are what really began the over the top Bond by numbers movies.

I would say 4 of them are worth owning, but 3 are no brainers for Bond fans. Live and Let Die is a maybe. Die another day = never ever watch this POS.

My sticker was actually stuck to the slip cover, so when I peeled it off, the print on the other side had transferred over to the slip cover, which obviously looks like shit. Hard to make out the code too, since about half of it is backwards on the cover and the other half is still on the back of the sticker.

I must be missing something, I only see like 20 movies.
when existing stock on a movie is depleted they remove it from the sale (akin to "no rainchecks"). You can tell how starved people are for the firesales of last year when the original pretty mediocre list of movies flies off the shelf that fast. wow.

Actually, no. These color palette issues cropped up in 2006 with the Lowry restorations, which are the versions you just bought on BD (and were released on DVD in 2006). They messed around with the color timing on pretty much all the films, much to the chagrin of many Bond fans. You have to take the good with the bad on these ones. The good being that the films are razor sharp and cleaner than they have ever looked, the bad being that the color timing is off in most of the films, and one or two of the films (Goldeneye and The Spy Who Loved Me, I believe, if memory serves) have framing issues (Lowry inexplicably did some image cropping). I have the 2003 SEs on DVD and the 2006 UEs (which again are the versions now out for BD) on DVD, and the long and the short of it is that the 2003 SEs have more accurate color timing, while the 2006 UEs have much better image quality, sound quality, and extras.

Dr. No, From Russia With Love, and Goldfinger all share the OAR of 1.66:1, if memory serves. Thunderball was the first to open up to the full 2.35:1.

Ugg, why the hell would they do this?

Dont get me wrong, they look very good... but still, what was the purpose?

Good to know I got the OAR at least..

also for those interested, bestbuy.com has Halloween (2007) and Casino Royale both on sale for $22.99 and $25.99 respectively. Both are as good or better than amazon prices and good for in-store pickup. If you'd rather just go to the store bring a printout of the bestbuy.com page with you and they'll price match it no questions asked.

Im not really sure what the thinking process was at Lowry with respect to the Bond films. Theres a little puff piece about the restorations on the Dr. No disc I believe, but it doesnt really get into the nitty gritty of why they felt it necessary to screw around with the color timing or crop certain movies.

I thought the point of this thread was to talk about HD movies and get people's own personal impressions? :lol

Thanks for the laugh though.
Well since it was the second time you asked and you still weren't getting responses, I'd say odds are good that either no one here got it yet or no one here has made it through the entire film series yet.
