This was a joke of the Spanish's fools day that is on December 28.

Sorry guys.

Digital Bits has confirmed that it's real.

Many of you will no doubt be aware that we've ALREADY confirmed with multiple industry sources (click here and here) that the Back to the Future films ARE currently planned by Universal for release on Blu-ray later this year, as 2010 marks the 25th anniversary of the original film's release. (In fact, we posted information on this here at The Bits as far back as June of last year.) Having seen thousands of official studio sellsheets, this one just didn't have the look of a fake to me. So over the last few days, we've gone back to our industry sources for confirmation on it, one way or the other. Just as I suspected, what you see above is authentic. It's the real deal.

Now... do keep in mind that the title has NOT been officially announced yet by Universal. So the cover art, the details on special features and the July 2010 release window you see above are all SUBJECT TO CHANGE. But our sources tell us this IS real and the title IS coming to Blu-ray at some point later in 2010. So just be patient and rest assured that we'll post updates on The Bits' home page as they come in, and official details when the announcements are finally made.

just ordered Pride and Prejudice (A and E version) for my girlfriend and also got Inglourious Basterds 2 Disc. How are the special features on it?

Almost bought the Band of Brothers Blu-Ray Box Set today. But it cost $130 here in Denmark while the DVD cost $50. Just too much I think. Though, Antichrist and Planet Earth looks (PQ) phenomenal.

Yep. It was 21.99 on Amazon. My girlfriend has the DVD version and has been BEGGING me to see it for the last 1.5 years of our relationship. Kept telling her I wanna wait til the Blu-ray. I guess it is time.

Axelmusic has the US release for 55€. It's region free so if you can manage without dk subs you should get it.

if you have means to import then order it from play.com only 22€ with free shipping around the world.

Was FLCL done with cels?

Doesn't look like it, alas. Taken from an interview with director Kazuya Tsurumaki:

Why the choice to break out of conventional animation and use manga pages? Was it at all a response to how many anime are using computers to achieve smoother and more realistic visuals? Were you trying to go the opposite direction?

KT: I like manga, not only to read, but the visuals. The pen drawings, the frame breakdowns and layouts . . . This is the first time I have used digital animation, and those bouncing manga shots wouldn’t have been possible with cel animation. Personally I’m not interested at all in using computers for realistic animation. I’m impressed by it sometimes, but I’m interested in using computers to do what was once impossible, not to do smoother versions of what has already been done. I want to be less realistic.

Has using digital animation techniques changed the way you work, or the way you feel about your work when you see it? Does it still feel like it’s yours if a computer did much of it?

KT: Before I got into digital animation I saw other shows that were using it and I felt that there was no feeling, it was empty. As an animator, there’s a sense of release when you draw a cel. There’s something there. Working on FLCL, though, I learned that computers can do more, and, most of all, that they allow room for trial and error and revising, more freedom to experiment. That is why I now feel that cel art cannot win against computers. For actual animation everything is still drawn on paper. That work hasn’t changed. It’s the other stuff, the touchups, and coloring. If we didn’t use paper, maybe the feeling would change.

Alas.

Why is the blu-ray release pointless? Wouldn't they be able to re-render the digital animation at 1080p or something? Surely it would look better than an upscaled DVD, no?

In any case I don't intend on buying it either, since I still have the DVDs too.

I thoroughly recommend Red Cliff on Blu-ray. The best Asian war epic I've seen. Brilliant video transfer, decent extra's, but best of all, instead of getting the 2.5 hour theatrical UK cut, you get the HK cut! Films split in two, but with 4.5 hours of feature film length! Basically in the UK you get what in China they have to buy as two parts. Amazing value, brilliant film, great Blu-ray show off material.

Wait, so with the UK release, they basically edited 2 films to only 1 essentially? Disgraceful.

Depends what was cut. The full version dragged horribly in places. Particularly act 2. I think some good editting could turn it into an excellent film.

I love historical epics, but the whole thing was pretty dull to watch, for me.

was just readin in Empire that peter jackson said next year there will be the extended cut version of the rings trilogy and that warner just want to try and make people buy the boxset twice. he also set that there will be an ultimate boxset with the hobbits in a few years.

i was gonna buy the boxset that comes out in March but now might just wait till next year to get the extended cut versions.

That would be wise. Plus, if you're dying to buy the theatrical editions they'll dive in price as soon as the extended cut comes out.

Holy hell. FLCL on Blu-ray? Yes please. I hope the transfer is good, and not just upscaled 480p.

yeah, I still have my FLCL box set on dvd. one of the few anime I will double dip on and get on Blu ray as well.

I'd double dip on Evangelion, too. Still waiting for the damn Eva 1.01 Blu-ray release in the US.

bah, i've already bought that set twice. would probably get that as well :lol

I just picked up the DVD set of BTTF in December... and I'd still pull the trigger on the Blu Rays if they came out in July. The series is way too awesome :D

I got the box set about a month ago and I can tell you that whilst there are some neat episodes, that Life is a complete let down for me and nothing on Planet Earth. I've mentioned it before but one of my main gripes is that they recycle A LOT of footage from episode to episode and sometimes just flat out play the same sequences again which feels like you're getting ripped off. Its definitely good, but not as good as Planet Earth.

Any Gaffers willing to comment on the quality of the Chuck Season 2 on blu-Ray?

Pretty grainy to my uneducated/untrained eye, almost as bad as the S1 BR. I don't remember it looking this bad when originally broadcast

Yeah that seems to be the consensus from what I gather (that Planet Earth >> Life). I'm currently watching Life, I skipped the first episode because I read it shows too much so you end up seeing repeated footage in all episodes (I'll watch it last)... I saw the Insects episode last night (blew my mind) and so far I haven't seen any repeated footage and I can't complain.

I'm really enjoying the "Life On Location" segments after each episode, which were missing from my Planet Earth set... I believe they are included in the UK release of Planet Earth, right?

Sucks that it's backordered for a few days tho. I went ahead and put in an order this morning even though I don't really want it that much. I kinda want to jsut register 2 more movies to get my free one before I run out of time... To make matter even worse, I don't even really want any of the free movies from the list, but I'll take one anyway. Also I have absolutely no more space for movies on my wall (in the top two shelves at least)... :(

Only on the DVD box set.

In terms of Life, the US version will be slightly different as the episodes will be 50 minutes in length, rather than 60. The series will consist of eleven episodes rather than ten and therefore the eleventh episode will feature all of the behind the scenes footage, but it will be heavily edited to fit the 50 minute limit.

I see you have Troy and Gladiator, but not Kingdom of Heaven (DC) or Braveheart. You should be able to find them for $10 or less (I assume you're in the states). Go now.

I've never seen either of them at that price. At least not new.
