just picked up the Bourne flippers for $15 each. pretty cool that Universal finally started doing this.

Is that where they burn on both sides? Those things are fucking awful. You're fucking crazy if you're glad they started that shit back up.

Wow, those Bournes came with $30 in MovieCash to see Green Zone and promo codes for 3 free medium pizzas from Papa Johns. It's like getting the blurays for free.

From what I heard, only the 2.0 version is cleaned, the original on it is DVD-quality at best.

Or, more accurately, LD-quality. Either way, the original version included looks like horrendous ass. For eleven bucks, it's a good deal for anyone interested in the 2.0 edition, but if you just wanted the original, save your money.

Ugh... It really looks like that? That's so horrendous... It wouldn't be as bad if the whole movie was like that but the whole switching back and forth is so out of place and tacky looking. Maybe I should cancel my order. :/

Edit: Does it go to the cg a lot or just those couple of times? I might be able to stand it if it's just those handful of times.

I didn't sit down and watch the entire movie, but a friend and I did skim through the Blu-ray recently. You've got three types of updated scenes in the 2.0 edition:

1) Full CG makeover. These sequences look terrible to me, but perhaps some folks will like them. The opening sequence is the big offender here; perhaps they break it out again for the crab fight finale, but I dunno. At any rate, I kept thinking I was watching video game FMV from the PS2 era.

2) "Hey, let's take the green and blue color palette of the original and turn it bright and gold here and there throughout the movie." Bleah.

3) "Hey, we can't afford to do much to these other sequences, but let's put a filter over them and blur things just a bit." Double bleah.

Again, opinions will vary but I was far, far from impressed by any of the changes in the 2.0 edition. DVD Beaver has some NSFW comparison images that you may want to check out.

Ya, the biggest buzz kill for me is that it's not even acceptable cg. It's like you said, cg from like a ps2 era game. :/

Edit: Wow... That's really weird that everything that was blue is now gold... What an odd change to even bother making. :/

Goddamn it, this better make the trilogy box set like $25 (I barely go to the movies, and there are no Papa John's near me).

For those of you that are/were looking for multi disc BD cases, Vernon Library Supplies has them in stock again. The larger ones go fast, so grab them if you need them.

Now I can replace the monstrosity that is the BSG US Collector's Edition packaging.

It says it's region coded though.....

Edit: Really? Says Regions 2 may not play outside of Europe.
I'd assume that's just Amazon covering its ass and/or using the same template as the DVD pages. As far as I can remember, no Universal BD has been region coded, and I know that the Bourne movies aren't because I played them on my US PS3 before I had a UK standalone.

Ah, ok. I remember seeing that on some of the bbc blurays but those really were region coded and didn't work. :/

I think I'm going to preorder that Eva. And I can't wait until tuesday when WWII in HD comes out! :D

Wat... I never heard of this before. Is this the film Weta (of LotR fame) worked on?

Not at all. Gainax is busy condensing the original TV series into four feature films, with some sections being re-animated and some entirely new sequences being added. If you've seen the Zeta Gundam movies, it's the same sort of thing. Evangelion 1.11 is the first six episodes or so of the original series. Happily, unlike GitS 2.0, Evangelion 1.11 does a great job of integrating the new footage with the original series and it's a solid re-telling. You can get an idea of what they did by watching the first eight minutes of the flick, courtesy of Funimation. Okay, so it's the dub, but you'll get the idea.
