Yes, they do expire about a year or so from release. I don't really care for them. Including a DVD is preferred.

See, that sucks. That means I have to download every single movie if I want to keep it. I don't want to have all that stuff stored on my computer really. If I don't, I'll lose my window of opportunity to actually get the digital copy. Meh, no biggie.

So, princess and the frog says "pick your format".

Does that mean when I type in the code and pick one I can't pick others? Can I pick a different one before the one year limit is up?

Only the code for the digital copy expires, you can redeem that and tie it to an iTunes account or what have you so you can download/rip it whenever you want. FWIW the data is encrypted on the DVD until you activate the code so you don't have to d/l anything. It gets ripped from the disk.

Wow, the packaging for Lord of the Rings is lame as fuck

Looks like I will be holding out for the Extended Editions, which won't be out until...what...2012?

Cool. I didn't know that thanks.

As for Lord of the Rings. I didn't even know they were out. I think I'd wait for the Extended Editions as well. Especially for Return of the King. I wish New Line or whoever had an upgrade program like Disney. :D

Quick question about Netflix. Do they ever withhold shipping shit? What I mean is I sent 2 back Wednesday. They technically got them today. The same day they receive my 3rd which was shipped Friday. It's never taken more than a day, and suddenly it took 3 and finally shipping once my 3rd came back.

Any reason why the digital codes do expire? I know one of my codes awhile back said it had expired but it still allowed me to download it while another didn't.

I picked up the Best Buy exclusive of Park Chan-Wook's Vengeance Trilogy. Havent had a chance to watch any yet but the packaging is pretty nice. Its a tin case with the 3 movies inside in individual blu-ray cases.

Yeah, I'm waiting for the extended versions too. I'd get theatrical Fellowship of the Ring if they released them individually, but since they won't I'll just wait.

Pretty much this. Fellowship is without a doubt the best in my mind - the extra stuff is unnecessary. I'm not bothered enough to pay extra for the entire pack minus bonus material.

Despite when they were shipped, they received all three on Saturday, and shipped them Saturday?

They ship one asap after the listed received date. If there was a shipping delay, it's out of their hands.

If there's any demand maybe I'll do a Rifftrax :p
Are you kidding? I'll buy it the second you do one man!

I can't make heads or tails of this post.
I think they don't ship on weekends. Maybe that's why it's taking long?

Found out a little more about the Eli Blu-ray - it will have DTS-HD Master Audio and MSRP is $35.99 so I'm guessing that'll shake down to about $20-25 on Amazon.

Man movies are not worth that much.
I'm actually kinda encouraged by how quickly BD prices have come down after an initial wallet-rape launch period. Only an idiot pays MSRP, Amazon always brings the disc down to a reasonable price and even at Best Buy/Target you can get a ton of great BDs in the $10-15 price range, including recent releases.

I can't believe the amazing DVD extended packaging from 2001 is replaced by shoddy, blue recycled plastic.

I'm gonna stay the hell away until the extended ones come out - with better packaging.

LOTR looks good enough to me. I don't buy 'em for the boxes, I want the audio upgrades.
its only theatrical and they aren't doing a great picture transfer. I'm holding off without any question

I've haven't paying attention to the av/brd boards.. is it confirmed poor PQ? I'd prefer the theatrical releases. Those movies weren't lacking in length.

It makes me happy to still have my extended edition dvds. Unfortunately they aren't in HD but they also don't look like some chinatown ripoff. Actually, that's insulting to chinese ripoffs, even those look more 'legit' than that set.

Very disappointing.

Any UK'ers want Toy Story 1 and 2 in a Buy one get one free? Head over to PLAY, HMV and Amazon to get just that. Also includes the newly released today Dumbo.

I'm pleased I waited. Nabbing 4 Disney Blu-rays for under £34 :D

Hot damn! Toy Story and Monsters Inc for £6 each!

Need advice from anime gaffers, what are the chances of the Ghost In The Shell TV series I & II going HD on blu-ray? The DVD boxsets are somewhat cheap on Amazon (~$25), but I am sort of hesitant wondering if they are going to be on blu-ray later because I try to avoid buying DVD at all costs. I was wondering if any anime gaffers know if there is anything in the works or something like that with this TV series.

The good news is that there are Blu-ray releases of the Ghost in the Shell TV series...in Japan. The first season has been released as two pricey box sets that include the English dub, but no English subtitles. There is also a Japanese box set of the GitS:SAC movies that does include English subtitles and is also not what you would call cheap. So, it may be that these releases are licensed for the American market by someone or other at some point in the future, but nothing is planned for North America anytime soon that I'm aware of. Pity, as I've been holding off on the GitS:SAC sets for ages myself and would just as soon hold out a bit longer and have a Blu-ray version available. Here's hoping!

Great user name, by the way.

Ah thanks for the info, I think that has made my decision to hold out, hopefully for a US release. I heard the movie was incredible visually on blu-ray and I am not to keen on the ideal of shelling out the cash for the DVD version of the TV series if they are going to release the blu-rays in the near future.

Thanks, it is very helpful in telling someone's age when they recognize it. :lol

Any chance of a director's cut for this one? Or did the director get to release the film he wanted in the theatres?
I don't think there will be a director's cut, the movie you saw in theaters is the one they wanted I believe. There will be some deleted scenes though.

I'm also holding out for the time being, but it's worth repeating the caveat that there is no promise that the US will get a Blu-ray release anytime in the near future, or perhaps even at all. I'm hoping that the popularity of GitS and the R2 Blu-ray release will mean that we'll get Stand Alone Complex and/or the compilation films at some point, but the US anime market has taken enough of a beating that I'm hesitant to consider anything a sure thing at this point.

As for the movie, the video quality of the new 2.0 edition is fine, but opinions on the visual style of the new edition vary; I'm personally of the opinion that the changes they made look god awful. Also, be warned that the GitS 2.0 Blu-ray contains a truly atrocious transfer of the original version of the film, so despite what's advertised on the packaging you don't have that to fall back on.

So what are the odds of The Venture Bros S1-2 coming to BRD? I just got into the show and want to buy everything on one format.

I'm pretty sure the first two seasons were produced in SD, so there's no reason to put them on Blu-ray. Alas!

They were, but I can hope.

Also, I was random-articled to the fnord wikipedia article the other day. Interesting, and it gave me a bunch of books to get from the library.
