I don't care for the film, but figured with it's use of bright colours it'd really pop on BRD. It all just looks kind of bland, really. Regardless of whether 16:9 is the intended aspect ratio or not, I find it really claustrophobic, as well.
A real disappointment.
His messing around with the ratio does kind of undermine the whole 'integrity of the art' argument as well.Van Owen said:lol @ highdefdigest's Avatar review. Video section of the review bashes the 16:9 ratio decision until the very last paragraph where he is like "the transfer is awesome though".

umm.. this is pretty stupid. Myself and a number of people I know watch extra features very often. VERY often. On a movie like Avatar or any difficult to make movie special features are usually extremely interesting, especially in a BonusView format. Now I'll be the first to admit that most people I know would be fine with the movie only editions.. obviously. But there is definitely a market out there for the special features of well put together releases.Kowak said:Nobody has ever watched an extra feature.

There's a comparison to the DVD on DVD Beaver.

Most people dont bother with the features.

I will say that quality trumps quantity though.
I think you do not quite understand the term "most".
The words you are looking for is "I" or perhaps "some people"

We're also stuck with blurry, juddery, slow-panning 24fps movies forever because (thanks to 60fps home video) people associate high framerates with camcorders and cheap sitcoms, and thus think good framerates look 'fake'.
In 2004 the common LCD PC monitor resolution was 1280x1024. Not only is that not more than 1080p it's also a funky 5:4 aspect ratio. And let's not even get into how the vast majority of PC LCD monitors are TN panels.allegate said:thought it fitting for content:

VanMardigan said:Why is a 17 inch monitor we bought in 2004 being compared to a new 1080p tv? Is there not an obvious difference? Do you REALLY think it is in any way comparable, or how about the cell phone line...what's the point of that?
So you knew what high resolutions meant before the masses did, that doesn't detract from the fact that a larger screen is kickass.

To be fair, I wasn't expecting to be blown away by the video on this release. The majority of the film was shot using a European model Canon XL-1s standard-definition camcorder at 720x576 resolution (thanks to Grubert for the info), a decision on the part of the filmmakers to give the film a rough-around-the-edges visual style. As such, its unrealistic to expect that '28 Days Later' would look as sharp as other high-def releases. I did, however, hope to see at least some benefit from this Blu-ray transfer.
That's funny, I love commentary tracks.VGChampion said:Well, most people I've ever spoken to do watch the extras if they're behind-the-scenes or similar. One thing that I know a lot of people like that I don't get into is commentaries though. If I'm going to watch the episode / movie again, I'd watch it without commentary.
Is there a blu-ray release already, I've had the HD-DVD release for awhileYuriLowell said:LOST IN TRANSLATION.
Finally HD Scarlett Ass. O Glorious Day.
It was filmed under 720p. It's pretty well known as one of the worst Blu-ray transfers around.Wellington said:I am currently watching the 28 Days Later Blu Ray, it is quite possibly the worst conversion I have ever seen. The scene where Jim is watching home videos of his parents is atrocious.
