The founders of Rockstar Games are British......That's insane, I really had no idea

it's crazy seeing as all of R* games take place in America and are about Americana

Vice City- Miami 80's cocaine drug culture
San Andreas- Souther California gang culture
GTA 4- New York City at the beginning of the recession
GTA 5- Contemporary California

Red Dead games- American West

why don't they ever make a GTA in Britain.?

I read this as The House Brothers and I thought we were talking about these guys who are every time I go to the dentist.

What is that word for British people obsessed with America?

GTA games are a parody of American culture (They even said so in interviews).

We are basicaly taking the piss :messenger_winking_tongue:

I'd enjoy the Houser's games more if they were a bit better at the satire. As it stands, the last two games in the GTA series had some painful attempts at mocking contemporary American culture. I know the GTA games are supposed to be goofy, but you can still deliver some biting satire while retaining that.

I'm actually more impressed with the writing in the Red Dead games. Like really surprised. I didn't think Dan Houser could be capable of such poignant and emotional storytelling, but I had tears in my eyes during some of the sadder moments in the series.

I knew. Rockstar North was basically the Scottish DMA Design, and they also had games published by Psygnosis in the early days.
The Houser guys joined in the late 90s though, when this thing called Grand Theft Auto was being planned and realized. DMA Design was acquired by Take Two in 1998.

Uh yeah....GTA has always been made in Scotland.

Did you know it used to be called Race'n'Chase and made by DMA Design?

It was renamed to Grand Theft Auto and of course DMA Design became Rockstar North which is based in Edinburgh.

Pretty sure every interview or piece I've ever read on Rockstar or those two mentioned that fact.

American culture lends itself better to the types of games and jokes they want to make. They did make one in Britain, but a European GTA looks something like The Getaway I think, and isn't nearly as fun or satirical, or frankly, interesting to a broader audience probably.
