The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming |OT2| Part II

I just wanted to second the poster earlier about N.O.V.A 2's online, it really is the most fun iv'e had on iOS as far as multiplayer gaming goes. The single player campaign is not half bad either, quite a bit of fun to be had. Gameloft is pretty hit or miss with their stuff but lately it's really been quality. Definetly recommend if your itching for some halo-ish gaming on the go.

i can vouch for secret of mana. i owned the original SNES version and although the tactile feedback of a controller is missing, the game plays well and the touch implementation is nice compared to the old d-pad navigation of menus. it's worthy!

Not that I'm playing it or anything, but in Smurf's Village is there a way to get more Smurfberries other than one per level-up and/or $$$?

OK so I am playing it. I hate hate hate these types of games but I just love those durn Smurfs too much.

Maybe this isn't the right place to ask but does anyone know if multi-tasking on an iTouch is only possible on the newer models? I believe I have second generation (8gb) Touch, and I realized I've never been able to multi-task, despite upgrading to iOS 4.0.

That's one of the worst F2P's out in terms of what you can accomplish without paying for in-game money. :(

No multi tasking in the 2G. 3G and later only.

Anyone know a good Openttd game clone for iPod touch? I'm aching for a similar game. I've been playing Trade Nations or watever it's called but it's getting to simple or limited I should say.
Uhm? OpenTTD is available for the iOS. Or at least there was one (I have it right in front of me, on my iPad). I wouldn't recommend it though, because it's OpenTTD just like that and it just doesn't work with touch controls.

You could give it a try though, it's free.

I'm thinking about Lumines and Shibuya. Any impressions on those?

Lumines is my second most-often played iDevice game (180 being the 1st, which i play more often but for shorter periods). I play it four, five hours spread out through every week since i first bought it, in March or April. Haven't played a game so much since KOF 98. It took me two nights to get fully used to the controls, but now i can play for hours without messing up. I can only assume people give up on day one, and that's why there are so many complaints about the controls.

It took me as long to get used to the Lumines controls as the controls on the iDevice Street Fighter IV, and i don't see many people dismissing SFIV so quickly...

Plants vs Zombies

Awesome. :D Just got that one.

There was a huge bug in the Croatian App store. Clicking on "Buy" led straight to DL-ing the game, instead of forwarding you to the payment gateway. :lol Got $35 worth of apps. Thanks for the Xmas present, Apple. :lol

It appears it was at one point, its not available anymore. I have a JB touch so I could possibly get it with Cydia but I dont really like to mess with that thing.

Thanx anyways.

I can't tell you how annoyed I am with PopCap for not updating their games for Retina. The tinniest of developers are upgrading their apps, but PopCap, as usual, is just darn lazy/apathetic.

Sentinal 3: Homeworld seems to be getting a lot of positive buzz.

I'll be honest, I have an iPad but no iPhone. I have no idea what Retina is. *runs to Google*

I just bought Top Gear: stunt school, it looks rather entertaining and youtube videos are showing me that for £2.39 I will get days of fun novelty out of launching cars up ramps and unlocking game center achievements, so it already feels like money well spent.

If it turns out more fun then I expect i'll buy the where's stig app, too :P

Personally, I love The Creeps. It's got great art, a constant a decent sense of progression, and it's a big old game. Plus: awesome fun!

Agreed. Creeps is a great game.

Geo Defence is also great although its only on iPhone with no native or HD version for iPad yet.

Can't Apple figure out a way to keep save settings on games so you can throw them out and reinstall them later without losing saves. If not it is really gonna negatively effect my buying descisions on games and I just bought an iPhone 4 last month.

Hook Worlds is fucking awesome! It’s ridiculous how much value you get for 59p.
I’m surprised more people aren’t raving about it here. If people are holding off from
buying it because of ‘hook fatigue’, then don’t because this is the best of the bunch.

i know i'm probably too picky about it, but after hook champ I didn't like the art style the later games went to. It feels like all the characters are MS Paint... while the original kinda had more style.

I like the art style myself, but if you can get past it then you will be in for a treat.

There are four game modes and each could easily have been released as an individual game.
The thing I love about the game is how focused it is. It’s like they looked at the two previous games and just reduced them to their essence.

alright I know the Square sale started last week and on the game pages they say the sale is for two weeks so I think it ends around January 4th

I'm confused about Game Dev Story. Is it really a universal app? There's no + symbol next to the price, but the description mentions it's a universal app and supports the iPad. So...? lol

it's not universal. it supports the ipad in that it will run as an iphone app with the "2x" button next to it for you to blow it up to fullscreen. there is no custom ipad UI or artwork.

consider it a language/ translation mistake on the part of the devs.

Ahh, gotcha. Thanks for the info!

I have $10 in my iTunes, what should I get?

I have:
Angry Birds (Like it, overrated though imo)
Cut The Rope (LOVE it)
Doodlejump (meh)
Plants vs. Zombies (alright)
Fruit Ninja (awesome, so addicting)
Beat Maker (great) - Are there any more must-have music apps?

Tilt to Live is my favorite iOS game.

Dodonpachi Resurrection.

The Korg iPad apps are pretty cool...but I'm guessing you only have an iPhone or iPod going by BeatMaker. And they're over $10 anyways.

The lack of text messaging in Game Center is frustrating. It renders the entire online play completely useless unless you make arrangements with your friends over the phone.
