Here in Spain is even funnier.

You can see reviews of "Amazing game, but it's not translated to spanish: 1 star". Some of them even say things like "I'll put 5-star if it gets translated".

I wouldnt recommend it on iPhone. On iPad, it runs and plays great.

Man I recently reinstalled Epic Citadel and ran it again on my iPhone 4... Damn... That tech demo pushes so much texture and polygon detail plus quite some shader fx as well, it is really impressive, especially at retina resolution and with the higher res textures (on 3GS the textures are lower res).

Infinity Blade is more impressive shader-wise, with the gloriously rendered metal and skin etc. But what really amazed me is just how much geometry Epic Citadel pushes. You can walk all the way down to the river and stuff and walk back to the castle while keeping your eyes focused on where you're going and you won't see any LOD/pop-in occurring. Really shows that we've only seen the start of what's possible on the platform.

Hey guys--just posted a thread asking about good "buy low/sell high" iPhone games and was told to ask in here.

Any suggestions of good "econ sims"? Someone suggested Game Dev Story, which I already have, so I also picked up Hot Springs Story--but, while these types of tycoon games are great, I'm kind of looking for more market manipulation stuff, if it's out there. Thanks!

Yea, did you catch the engine on the NGP? Really shows where things will be headed, even more so, given it'd probably run slightly toned down in an iPad 3 or iPad 2 with a CPU/GPU bump.

From what I know, iPad 2 should run the NGP demo fine (I believe the hardware is very similar to the NGP). And tbh, just judging by the visuals, it's not that far removed from Epic Citadel. Add some optimizations and maybe tone a few things down just a tiny bit and I see that kinda stuff running on an iPhone 4 still.

The gap is roughly 4x higher on the NGP. I'm not exactly sure but they're not really in the same ballpark either way, at all. I just thought the video was pretty impressive compared to the Epic Citadel we all got to see.

The NGP is quite a beast, for sure, the GPU seems very similar to the iPad 2's, don't know specifically what the difference is between the SGX543MP4+ (NGP) and the SGX543MP2 (iPad 2) but I believe they're very close. But I'm just saying, with Epic Citadel running very smoothly on the iPhone 4 (did they optimize it? fps is better than last time I installed), I can imagine very easy optimizations made to the NGP demo to bring the in-memory geometry and textures down to the same level as with the Epic Citadel demo with little visual difference.

I guys, just got an iPhone 4, my first idevice besides my Ipod classic.

I love it. So far I've gotten:

Infinity Blade
Dodonpachi and Bug Panic
Rage
Fruit Ninja
Battleheart
Pac and Jump
MGS touch
Ghosts and Goblins
Bit.trip
Robot Unicorn Attack.

Is there anything amazing that I'm missing? Chaos rings seems a little pricey

Dungeon Raid is pretty great. I also personally like Pinball HD and War Pinball. Minotaur Rescue is also rather good. Oh and Tiny Wings.

Aside from the ones you mentioned, I've really enjoyed Mad Skills Motocross, Lumines, Shibuya, Flick Golf!, Peggle, Street Fighter IV, Star Dunk Gold, Flick Kick Football, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2, and Scrabble.

Dude, there is just so much great stuff. Do yourself a favour and go back through this thread as far as you can stomach. You'll find lots of great games to play and you will also see this question answered a few times over.

My favourite games that are not on your list are:
Platformers:
Canabalt, League of Evil, Hook Worlds, Pix'n Rush, The Blocks Cometh

Arcade:
Minotron 2112, Minotaur Rescue, Space Invaders Infinity Gene, Age of Zombies, Pac Man CE, Forget.Me.Not, Death Rally

Adventure/RPG:
Broken Sword, Monkey Island 1&2, 7th Guest, Tactical Soldier Undead Rising, Dungeon Road

Puzzle:
Cut the Rope, Bejewled 2, Flight Control, 180, Tumbledrop, Drop7, ChuChu Rocket, Super Stick Golf

Unplayable is a little harsh,I played it through to completion on the iPhone. It does have some pretty serious bugs (eg not displaying complete text conversations from quest givers) but the basic match 3 gameplay is easily playable imo.

Very close? The NGP is a Quad core with dedicated vram and I'm almost 100% positive its clocked higer than the iPads 160mhz/200mhz. The NGP is 4x more powerful spec wise but it also pushes 30% less pixels.

To follow Jedeye

Word: WordJong, Words With Friends, WordRush, WordAce, Scramble, Textropolis, Word Warrior

Strategy/Puzzle: Peggle, Flight Control, Cut The Rope, Slice it, Drop 7, Slingo, Battle of Gundabad

Puzzle: Angry Birds, Blocked, Sword and Poker, Spider:Secret of Bryce Manor, Super Stick Golf, Sushi Cat, Collision Effect

Tower Defense: The Creeps, Crystal War, Plants Vs Zombies, GunsNGlory

Action: Tilt To Live, Fruit Ninja, Osmos, The Incident, Gold Rush, I Dig It, Battleheart, iStunt2

Please note, with the exception of one or two games above none of these games use an on screen control pad, they all excel at using what the iPhone is meant to use.

Thanks so much for the recommendations guys!

Some games, like SSF4, I have superior portable versions of, but most of the others I will check out.

I am VERY impressed with RageHD. In still it looks pretty janky, but in reality it is just as technically impressive as Infinity Blade, IMO.

Until it exists iPad2 is the most powerful hand held gaming device.

I wouldn't say unplayable, but no effort has been made to make some of the smaller UI elements appropriate for fingers.

iTunes gave me a refund on PQ2 after I complained about this.

Fo' realz. Especially if you open a level in museum mode and just hold down 'walk' throughout the level, seeing so much detailed environment slide by is amazing.

So what's the deal with metal gear solid touch. It's $0.99 right now...worth it?

i'd say it's worth .99. it's universal too. can't believe i paid full price for it back in the day.

Toucharcade is a joke site if you want some user opinions.

Every single game is loved by everyone. Nobody is willing to criticise a game. There's some complete crap that everyone praises the devs for.

Touch Arcade is atrocious.

Yet I read it cause devs send 'em information.

The worst thing is a lot of devs go on th' boards and listen to these idiots. And cool devs too.

Blablurn I didn't even realize this was you responding. What is this J-Pop avatar junk...give me my Bayern Blablurn back!

haha, i guess you're right. its just about annoying people since everybody complained about k-pop pictures in the avatar thread haha.

too bad gifs are gone. van bommel will be missed :/

still need to look for a very good picture.

just tossing this out there. Anyone want to help out on an established site that does reviews for iPhone, iPad, and OSX apps? If so PM me but you will have to write short accurate reviews. Apps will be given to you for free though :)

On a side note I have been reflecting on some older iPad games lately and Battle of Wesnoth has stolen all my time lately!

Well despite the lack of Van Bommel, I'll go ahead and still get Metal Gear Solid Touch ;)

Oh I sure have. A buddy of mine brought his iPad 2 over the other week. So good. It really is a fantastic piece of hardware.

It's just the wife and I have a laptop and we both have our own iPod touch. I really can't justify an iPad purchase at the moment. I'm planning on upgrading to the iPod touch 5 later this year, and I really need something a little more portable than an iPad while I'm out and about.

Did you get yone? I can't remember from reading the thread in OT

What's that square enix rpg again, the niche one?

I don't remember much more than that, I think it was fully 3D and turn based?

yeah, bought the first model when they announced the price cut. really awesome. thinking about selling my iPod Touch 4 at the moment because i dont wanna go back to be honest haha.

Touch arcade is good for saying when a game ships. Judge for yourself from there. As mentioned, many devs post there as well, without being thrashed...

Aha, I did not know the difference was that big, I stand corrected :).

superstick golf got an update tonight. multiplayer online play through game center! and other nice features like new courses and items.

Help a gaffer out!

Myself and fellow gaffer ‘nelkonandparker’ are putting the final bells and whistles on our first iPhone game.

It’s called Switch Frenzy and it’s a simple high-score driven arcade game. It’s fast paced and gamecentre enabled so we would massively appreciate anyone willing to help us beta test it and find bugs, try and break it, post lots of scores to the leaderboards, gain achievements, provide general feedback (creative/technical etc) – the usual beta testing lark

Here are a few screenshots

We’re using Test Flight to distribute the beta which is pretty slick and will allow you guys to directly install it on your device over the air.

So, if you have an iPhone 3GS or 4

1. Go here: http://bit.ly/e41Slm
2. Register an account
3. Follow the instructions emailed to you (on your device)
4. Sit back and wait. We’ll notify you when the beta version is available to download (probably tomorrow)
5. Switch some goddamn switches!

First off, the switches get stuck if you press "Play Again" after dying and have not released another finger from a switch that you had moved prior to losing.

The symbols are quite small, and since colour is used to differentiate between the type of arrow (normal, opposite, hold) it is quite difficult to quickly establish the direction to move them. This is more of an issue in the classic mode as it becomes frustrating quite quickly.

I would suggest adding 3 and 5 minutes leaderboards as well to the time attack mode.

Looking up to see the multiplier or if the bonus icon is ready is difficult given the attention needed onscreen.

The hold switches can be annoying in that it is easy to obscure the switch indicators while holding it, particularly if in the centre.
