Any good games come out this last week?
Are we expecting any good new games this week?
Here are some of the games I purchased recently & love: Chopper 2, Final Freeway (OutRun clone), Quell, Gravity Runner, Dodonpachi R.

Currently having a blast in Carcassonne with GAFers <3 I have one Q though: is there an offline multiplayer (bluetooth) or no?

Yes, hotseat multiplayer (pass the iPhone) with as many players as you want.

Normal Game-->Local-->New Game-->Add a Player-->Enter Name of Person (which will be saved and have its own local ELO)

Giana Sisters has the worst controls of any game I played on iOS. What a waste of 5 bucks.

I think that Giana Sisters had really great controls. Really pleased with what I got for $0.99.
Worst control I've encountered so far is when playing Pix'n Rush.

Honestly, I don't see why alot of PSP and DS JRPG's aren't ported like crazy to the Touch/Ipad/Iphone. The genre is entirely menu based which lends itself extremely well to the touch interface.

At least Crimson Gem Saga made it.

Epic Citadel off my iPad... maybe Carmack will release a Rage tech demo too.

I tried it on my 3GS as well and it looks really amazing... Why don't we see visual fidelity like this more often?

I played on the 3GS too and it looks better than that iPad screenshot above for some reason! Very impressed but there's nothing going on.

'cause it's hard to use advantageously, especially in terms of texturing and stuff. It raises the necessary budget significantly.

Also, it doesn't scale down well beyond iPod 3rd gen. Because that's the point where shaders were introduced. Without shaders, a lot of stuff on that screenshot is almost impossible to pull off.

All great points, but, as importantly, it looks as good as it does because the engine isn't doing anything aside from rendering the environment. No collision, aside from pathfinding, no interaction, no AI, etc. Reminds me of a cool FutureMark benchmark but for the iPad. Looks nice, big improvement from then Mark Rein showed me the early build back last Sept. Waiting to see what kind of a game they can actually build with this.

Thanks a lot, Epic Citadel, for giving me an awkward public boner.

My apologies to the woman sitting beside me on the plane.

Edit: So why does my fucking phone have better graphics than my god damn Wii?

holy fuck! I sprayed all over my tits!

Epic Citadel looks freaking amazing!!! Even better than many xbox 360 games :X

BTW I'm playing it on iPhone 4

Well, then again, rendering the environment is mostly GPU (read: shader) work once the stuff has been loaded and put into the appropriate buffers. Collision, interaction, AI… all CPU work.

So the only real concern to have when considering whether or not to put gameplay-related features in there is if the battery holds up.

Probably doesn't, actually.

So is this a game thats going to get released or what? I'd easily pay upto 40 bucks if it looks nearly as good as the tech demo
from what was shown at the conference, yes it's a real game

If you're getting cold as you're waiting for the bus, just put Epic Citadel on.

Amazing achievement nonetheless, of course.

Just downloaded Epic Citadel, will check it out later.

Thanks, I'm reaching a saturation point with puzzle games but I bought Quell and I'm really enjoying it so far.

Okay, wtf? You can't download Citadel directly to your iPad/iPhone? Is it a size thing? The download stops at the same point every time and tells me to run to my nearest computer. Bummer...haven't connected my iPad for like two months...

I downloaded it directly to my iPhone 4 over WiFi

Worked fine for me

It's just a 127mb or thereabouts, worked fine over wifi for me.

I just have to repeat this, Epic Citadel:

You touched my tralala, mmmm my ding ding dong

Anyone else feel the same way? I seriously can't wait for the game. I keep replaying it and came to conclusion that I would be amazed even if it got released on the current consoles, yes its just that good.

Is anyone else having push notification problems on their iPhone? Suddenly I am not getting any of them for Mafia Wars, Words With Friends, or We Rule.

I'm not getting push notifications for my gmail :/

What's the best one? P1P always talks about Robot Unicorn Attack IIRC

Epic Citadel is nutsnutsnuts, and I'm cautiously optimistic about Game Center. Really exciting time to be an iOS gamer! :)

Finally the friggin touch has a camera. The only reason I always wanted the damn phone was for the camera. no more need now.
Problem is that it's only .7 mp which is pretty weak.

You sure you aren't quoting the front facing camera? How can you record HD video (720p) on a .7MP camera?

Also of note; Predators is on sale for $0.99 on the US app store (probably every region?). I'll post impressions if people don't know enough about it already after I spend some time with it.

About 20k polys, particle systems, shadow buffering, baked AO, normal mapping… Looks pretty standard in terms of what the iPad can do.

Pity that no other developer has managed to hit the same quality then. I guess it's down to the scale of economies of the app store.

For stills the spec page says 960x720, I guess it just crops from the 1280x720 (.9MP to begin with) frame to get a more traditional 4:3 picture size. I'm guessing it's a tiny sub MP lens cause the thinness of the case.

I think the bigger deal is that the low end model (albeit $229 now) is current rather than a last gen model. No longer need to spend $300 for the mid model to be up to date.

Veggie Samurai is free right now. If you don't have Fruit Ninja but wanted it, you might as well grab this as it is basically the same game. It's not as polished as Fruit Ninja, but it allows multiple slices on a veggie, something missing in Fruit Ninja.
