This makes me want to just buck-up and buy a fucking iPod. I'll wait for my brothers girlfriend to give me the one she won in a raffle before I make such a decision. Didn't even realize they're releasing a new model next week. WTF, Epic Citadel has got to be one of the most impressive things I've seen as of late.

Next week?

You can order it now.

Was great on the iPad, a bit of a framedrop when moving around fast outside. It was lovely and it actually pains me to see the combat of the actual game. I imagined some kind of first person RPG

Said to be even more impressive on the iPhone 4 too, it's a real eye-opener for me. Surprisingly fun to explore not having to worry about enemies either!

Edit: does the new touch have the retina display?

Which Cave shooter should I buy? Both are now AUD11.99 and I have tried the lite versions. It seems to be a choice between dragons or insects but beyond that I'm not sure if there's some big features I'm missing. Educate me, iShmupGAF.

Or you could always go with R-Type, at $2 I find that to be a pretty good option myself.

Yeah, the textures are a lot better on the iPhone 4. It basically comes down to the 512 ram vs 256 on the iPad.

How much ram does the new iPod touch have? Is it comparable to the iphone4?

It hasn't been announced yet, as far as I know. I'm really wondering the same thing. While I want one for the Cave shooters and other apps my current 1st gen Touch doesn't run anymore, I'd like to know if any other (more demanding) games will perform the same as the iPhone 4. The Epic Citadel demo comes to mind!

Crimson Gem Saga is pretty tempting but $10 is a lot for a game I already have on psp. Would be more convenient to play on the go with the ipad though

If you already own it, I'd say avoid. The touch controls just aren't good.

Even with the update? That's too bad..

I wonder if they can make a hard grip-case for ipad that has gaming buttons and a dpad. I remember having something like that for my neogeo pocket back in the day..

Both!

If I had to pick one it'd probably be DDP cause the controls in relation to the scoring mechanics, it's a bit more straightforward and easier to work with (although both are pretty complex once you get into it).

Heh, I still have that case for my neo-pocket.

The update only finished a bug, which made it impossible to upgrade your skills. The game isn't unplayable in its current state, but the menus are frustrating to navigate. Having to scroll through options to select one when they're all displayed right there on screen is baffling in how awful it is. The control options you use the most though, movement and combat, are decent.

You'll get used to the controls after one play session, it's really not that bad... I love the game personally.

How much time have you spent trying to buy something from the shop? Don't see how it could be worse.

I've played for about 5 hours and I have no problem buying anything or navigating the menus. It's not good, you're right, but as soon as you learn how to flick left/right and up/down to scroll and that pressing outside the blue square means cancel/go back while pressing inside it means confirm/accept it's really not a problem.

Is there any game like Princess Maker, or something? I've always enjoyed it a lot, and the only one that slightly resembles is Godsville, but the lack of any images doesn't make it great.

Godsville has nowhere near the interactivity of a Princess Maker; it's nothing like it really.

Making a backup of my apps and I have just over 7gb worth, would probably be a gig more if I redownload the shit I bought and hated :lol

To me that's a lot of data for iphone games, i'd have to say 1/3 of that is most probably Gameloft titles which end up being 400+ mb each.

Well, the concept is kind of the same. But yes, the only real thing you do in Godsville is either praise or scold your hero lol

Really enjoying Mirrors Edge. I'm having more fun than I did with the console version, that's for sure. It's quite a rush to chain lots of perfect manoeuvres together as you fly across the rooftops with aplomb.

How does everyone feel about "clone" games on the App Store like Words with Friends (Scrabble), Veggie Samurai (Fruit Ninja), or any Gameloft game. I'm just wondering as I posted that Veggie Samurai was free the other day (I think it is still free) but a friend of mine refused to download it as he said it copies Fruit Ninja.

Personally, I am okay with it. With Gameloft, we get console style games on the iPhone, and it isn't like these developers are stealing. They are using an idea / theme, and creating their own assets and code. That isn't illegal and goes way back to the days of "Doom clones".

Also, these clones add new features. Veggie Samurai lets you chop a piece more than once, and uses multi-touch to allow you to have duel swords, both features that are missing in Fruit Ninja (I own and enjoy both). Also, I've read Doddle Jump started off as a clone of an existing iPhone game but added new features and everyone (including myself) loves Doddle Jump. Words with Friends is also popular on this forum, and I know a Risk clone was discussed a few pages back.

The entire gaming industry is built on 'clones' and copycats... I don't really give a shit who did it first, if someone else can do it better.

The only clone apps that I've bought full versions and enjoyed are the "Let's Golf" games.

Almost everything else done by Gameloft hasn't impressed me at all.

I never played the console version, but I'm still interested in getting this. How's the replay value?

Most are clones. Just buy what's best. Halfbrick's newest game is a clone of Canabalt after all. I give Gameloft credit for cloning console games for the most part, instead of existing iphone stuff. They even have some good official games, like the Settlers.

Rimelands is pretty incredible.
By the third dungeon, you'll hit an old school difficulty spike that truly shows off how tactical the combat can be; and perhaps how important skill specialization is.

Seems pretty high. So far there have been 6 levels, each with 2 acts. I think I'm close to the end though. Each act takes anything from 1:30 to 2:30 to speed-run, obviously longer the first few times through as you learn the levels. There are messenger bags hidden in each level to collect and in-game 'achievements' that unlock artwork. I can see me playing it for quite some time as it's good fun learning the routes and then stringing everything together in a nice run.

Did anyone buy Spiderman total mayhem? Was hoping to read some gaf impressions before making the jump

I did. Visually fantastic and the combat system is a lot of fun. It's fairly straightforward (combat / swinging / climbing) and not all that long but it's a really admirable effort.

There are a few bugs I'd like to see cleaned up - I've fallen through the floor about three times but only on the first level, strangely - it's otherwise pretty tight. It's clearly had a lot of care put into it and in my opinion it paid off. But of course, don't blame me if you hate it. ;)

Really interested... might pull the trigger.

I picked it up too, only played through the first dungeon, but I don't regret it (it's just $5 after all). I have to warn the controls ARE very frustrating at times through (the hit boxes for the d-pad arrows to move are awkward), I hope they get patched soon, there's no reason why they couldn't be a bit larger so you aren't pushing the screen with nothing happening so much.

They mentioned potentially updating it to support the Retina display in a future update as well, would be nice. If you like rogue dungeon games (or whatever they're called) + turn based combat, it's a definite buy.

I am REALLY digging playing Shining Force again on this. :D

Into Chapter 2, where you start fighting the zombies out in the field. That battle took me 3 tries before I completed it.

Just realized something, I haven't notice any iPhone game tear. Does apple force devs to use vsync?

I think it's mostly just that nobody has big budgets for iPhone games so none of them push the GPU to the limits, and therefore they don't have to skimp on vsync. That could change now that Unreal Engine 3 is on iPhone, assuming someone puts the money into making a big 3D game.

All of a sudden I felt like playing some Tactical / Strategy / Simulation RPG. What are some good suggestions?. I don't want a typical RPG like FF, but more like, say, FFT... but seeing how SquareEnix isn't releasing FFT (got announced during the last E3, so it might still be sorta far...).

So yeah, any suggestions?. I basically want a game that lets you create your own character/s and level up like crazy, build items and stuff for him, etc.. And usually Tactical RPGs have a lot of that :P

(I feel so bad for selling Disgaea 3 now... sniff..)

I'm thinking about the new iPod Touch...some quick questions:

1) What are the good websites that talk about iPod gaming?
2) Do games not updated for the spiffy retina display look not so great?

Thanks!

As far as I know, FFT is being released on iPhones September 15th.
