I don't get Carc, am I just suppose to lay out tiles and populate them? I was expecting some kind of Risk action after I was done putting down my tiles. Disappointment confirmed :(

What are you even talking about? The Broken Sword DC is far from awful, it's been very well ported to the platform in my opinion. The hotspots make it less of a pixel hunt than it otherwise would be on a screen like the iPhone and the new content is actually pretty interesting. Admitedly some of the changes aren't ideal but it doesn't suddenly make it an awful game.

And it has subtitles on by default as far as I'm aware so I don't know how you've come to the conclusion it doesn't have any.

my copy doesn't have subtitles or an option to turn them on or off. it also has troubles maintaining framerate through the cutscenes and the new art is just god awful. it's not as bad as the gba version but i mean it's not worth praise.

This looks kinda like Super Mega Worm.

suck it!

(i only do that kind of stuff if a blatant opportunity presents itself -- otherwise i try to be very nice and cooperative, especially in 4p games! i almost never try double steals and the like!)

I like Gameloft but Hero of Sparta 2 is sooo bad. Yukes.

I agree.

Btw... I've always found it really hard to get into DoDonPachi Resurrection, I used to find it frustrating to have to deal with slightly complex gameplay/scoring mechanics while you're already being overwhelmed by the immensely gorgeous bullet heaven... Today, it somehow suddenly 'clicked', I now 'get' it AND HOLYWHATTHESHIT THIS IS AMAZING.

Hey guys I have a question. If you "purchase" an app that went free, but since has gone back to being paid for, can you still redownload it for free?
Sure.

So I'm about to start getting more into iphone gaming and would love some recommendations on good rpg's. Any must haves for under $10 I should try?

Square has a bunch of stuff like Final Fantasy 1 and 2, Secret of Mana, Chaos Rings (not sure if under $10), etc.

Oh man this thread is dangerous! Brought too many apps in 2010, part of my resolution this year is to cut down on purchasing apps (free ones are OK). So it's good to see Crosslogic and Death Worm were free today.
Any games that will keep me hooked for a long time that are free and don't have ads? I just want to settle with one long story based game instead of the timewasters that I usually have. I have Broken Sword as part of the free iTunes thing and that seems great so far but already played it on the PC many times.

Mirror's Edge is free today in NZ. if someone want to buy this just wait a couple of days, this will be free in europe and maybe US too.

I bought ME during EA's .99 cent sale. Not terribly impressed with it, to be honest. But if anyone can snag it for free, do so.

I'm gonna give Chaos Rings a try. I see it has some pretty good reviews. Also got Deathworm and I've had Game Dev Story for awhile also and need to put time into that also.

What the hell, Carcassone has nothing to do with Risk...

Var inte ledsen :( I just misunderstood it :) I have been playing it for a while now and its ... interesting. Not quite sure what to think of it yet.

Flick Kick Football v1.3.1 is out - fixes a crash bug that appeared more frequently after the previous update.

Aralon HD is really growing on me. It isn't perfect, sometimes I accidentally lock onto chests during combat, sometimes I accidentally use my 'pick lock' skill instead of my 'backstab' and I don't know why all the menu windows are shrunk to 1x iphone size, but none of that is stopping me from getting immersed in the little world they've created.

I have an Ipod touch 1st gen and I was just wondering what 2d games would you recommend. The newer, 3d graphics drain my battery life way to fast.

Right now I have

tilt to live- My favorite most addictive ipod game yet.
plants vs zombies- My second favorite game,
Geo defense- a fun simple tower defense game
zenonia- a fun rpg/legend of zelda type game

My tastes are open, I like anything.

Is there any way to backup saves? I will not JB my device just for that.

If any of you guys (or ladies) haven't downloaded Pizza Boy yet, you are really missing out. A recent update added new levels, also. The cool thing about the addition is that the new levels are only unlocked when you find a hidden key in any regular level. It kind of reminds me of the star levels from super Mario world. Awesome platforming, wonderful controls, and nails the Mario physics. Buy it!

It's 3/4s of a truly excellent game, but it does fall short in some semi-important ways.
It's still by far the best game of its type, but that's only because there are so few of them.

On second thought, despite being turn-based, I think it's safe to classify The Quest together with Aralon, and The Quest basically destroys all other CRPGs on the iPhone.

I finished Aralon at level 50 (the cap), in about 30 hours. It's a very cool experience that will likely get perfected in later updates. I hope it sees a few expansions as well. The combat, skills, and class systems are VERY half-baked though. There are also some surprisingly poorly thought out issues, such as no apparent way to un-break the game if you make the mistake of going outlaw and saving over your file(s). Melee combat is thoroughly broken once you realize that you can steadily retreat from your foes to safely attack them while watching them whiff 9 attacks out of 10. There are also a couple of odd half-baked areas that are clearly intended for future content, but currently make for some jarring dead-ends. The Hill Giant Den and the Goblin Village come to mind. Not to mention that I can't help but feel that the lairs of the Ice Elemental Queen and Fire Elemental King were meant for more.

But it's a neat little world with some very satisfying adventuring and questing to be had. The set pieces also get nicer as you progress, with some enjoyable multi-floor dungeons to explore and hack through. It's not a 5 hour game. And it'll undoubtedly only get better with time and support.

21/23 achievements on FKF! :D

I was getting desperate with one that you have to hit the skill zone 9 times in a row. Fuck!

Now only "Smashed!" and "Stampede!" to go. Not quite sure how to do them though.

I have hit bullseyes on 3 moving targets "in a row", I mean there were static targets in-between them, is that why it didn't count?

On the one that you have to get 100 defenders down - is it on a single play?

Of course it has nothing to do with the depth of the games mentoned above, but
I Must Run! (Canabalt-like game) is simple, addictive and free atm (iirc)

Hey when Mirror's Edge drops to free, will it be free for Like 24 hours? I'm gonna go to sleep since I can't stay up waiting for the stupid store to update or what not and check back early in the morning.

Dammit, just bought Mirrors Edge the other day. I hate shit like that.
Yeah pretty much all EA games go free or .99 at some point. I'm hardly a "WAITING FOR .99/FREE" person but I would never pay more than a buck for an EA iOS game. Well, for many reasons, but the seemingly constant sales being one.

I just don't understand how come Bit Trip HD is never mentioned in iPAD's best games lists.
I mean, it's €0,79 when I happily paid €10 for the Wiiware version which features worse gfx, fewer levels, no achievements and so on.
The game is a gem, gameplay, graphics, MUSIC... everything is top notch.
Although I still find the Wiiware version to be superior and essential because of its perfect tilt controls, this game easily sits in my top 5 iPAD experiences.

Given it is the season, I'll just add that Cricket Captain 2010 on the iPhone is pretty damn sweet. It's a little buggy, and is a bit prone to hard crashing back to the home screen, but apparently a fix has been handed to Apple and should be up soon.

But if you've ever played an ICC on the PC before, you know what you're getting into. I'm currently 3/4 through my first season as captain/coach of Victoria Bushrangers, with Hodgey and White going gangbusters. Well implemented version of a great management game.

On that note, (and I said this much over in the GAF GOTY thread) Football Manager 2011 is absolutely tremendous. SIGames have out done themselves with it.

While I'm on the praise wagon, I'll throw my support behind Dungeon Hunter 2, with one big caveat: the lack of multiplayer on my partners' 3g iPhone is a massive bummer. It runs well enough in single player, so hopefully they can patch in some local wifi or BT for us.

Oh and to whomever it was who recommended Disc Drivin' - thanks. It's a beauty!

This is why I'm afraid to play with people in the official Carc thread. I don't quite grasp the concept of the game enough (mostly scoring) to really get into heavy strategic games - and especially lingo like "double steals". :(

oh no worries about that. i just made it up to refer to the kind of aggressive play and city-stealing that i am morally opposed to.

if you read the tabletop manual i can almost guarantee you will know the mechanics of the game inside-out: http://www.riograndegames.com/uploads/Game/Game_48_gameRules.pdf. it's literally easier to learn than most mainstream board games. the only somewhat tricky part is the farm scoring which is explained in great detail on page 4 and then again on b2
