Canabalt just got a juicy update:

- Game Centre
- 60fps on 4th gen and iPad.
- 'proper' Retina support.

Looks so nice on iPad at 60fps. :)

YEAH! Smooth framerate on Canabalt?! Juicy.
Great post man :P

What kind of games is Gamecentre good for? I haven't paid much attention to it really, no idea what my name is or anything or how many acheivements I have. Would be cool to play some multiplayer though, esp asynchronous. What kind of games are good for the MP side and what kind of games does GAF play?

Just consider it a sort of a Gamertag in a world where it's takin off but it's still fightin' against some apps with their own profiler and some games not supporting it out of the gate; but you'll see more and more games adopting it each day, and many are being updated with GC support as well.
You just need to start the GameCenter app (mine was already in the iPAD when I bought it, but anyway it's free) and create an account. Then when being online you start a game you own and if it supports GC it'll ask you if you want to enable it. Done! Leaderboards, friendlists and whatnot...
Personally I like each and every genre but I can't get into deep real-time strategic games on the go.

So, I bought Jenga on the iPod/iPhone when it was 99 cents and I was wondering if anyone could get it to work. All I see is a companies logo and then it takes me back to the home screen.

The existance of HD versions ported from iPhone for iPad is frustrating. Not only do you have to pay more, but you also can't compare highscores with your friends, nor - get this - play multiplayer with them! In the future, devs who put out universal apps will get purchasing priority.

Sushi Cat is awesome! It's like physics-driven cross between Plinko and Peggle

It was mentioned earlier that it's free for today, but here's the link!

Retina, Game Center, fun!

Started playing Broken Sword and got really into until it. Don't know if I'll be playing any more though. Kinda pissed off at the moment because I accidentally wiped my autosave. Tapped the menu icon twice instead of the action button, then saw the save menu, so I figured it was a good time as any to save seeing I hadn't done so in hours. Trouble with that was that instead of the save menu I was actually in the load save menu...

Second time this has happened on the platform. Stopped playing Song Summoner for the same reason, only there it was more the fault of the actual game. Got into an unwinnable battle and the autosave royally screwed me over.

It's just a bullshit excuse to make more money. Fruit Ninja HD was pretty much the last straw for me. Not falling for that again.
Devs always try to play the "different user experience" card, but it's utter nonsense.

Great, great game. I think they're working on the sequel.

The real reason for the HD versions is that people with iPads will pay more money for the same game, or will rebuy a title to play it on their iPads with the HD seal of awesome. And that's not too surprising, really. They've been conditioned by the AppStore's biggest winners to do so, and those in turn went that route because it's an intended one, manufactured by Apple so that it plays out that way.

I don't think it's really an issue per se because the customers WILL actually pay the extra money without complaint; it sucks though when the non-HD and the HD versions don't play well with each other. That just tells you where priorities lie for some guys.

Really wanna play it, but it costs too much!
Yeah, it's a bit steep. The concept really intrigued me though, so I bough it anyway. It's definitely an experience everybody should at least try.

You're joking, right? Because the game is built around sound design from what I can tell. I'm curious as to how long the game takes to complete. Spending 7 dollars on a game, when other great games are constantly going on sale to 99c or even free is tough to do.

Well it's that or the HD assets are huge and they want to get under that 20MB 3G Limit. Cut The Rope iPhone is 17.5MB, CTR HD is 30.2MB.

I hope they decide at some point in the near future to kill the limit or make it carrier-centric... if you're going to download a 20MB file, give a warning, but don't make it impossible.

I could really use some more of my data...

I may be on a freemium kick lately, but hell if Lil' Pirates isn't one of the best out there. Facebook and Game Center support, Retina Graphics, and it's got virtually every social feature you could want out of a game. Anyone play Lil' Pirates? If so, add me via email. PM me for it.

I have a bit ofa problem. I want to back up my apps to my computer and basically put my iPod back into full sync. However I recently reformatted my comouter and can only sync my computer (which has nothing on it due to reformat) with my iPod and not the other way around. Anyone got any ideas or should I just sync with my computer and then redownload my apps (which would suck due to shitty download limits here)?

cjelly and rc213, how did you get those icons in your status in Game Center?
Unlock the emoji (japanese variant) keyboard. This is the one I used: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/emoji-free/id332509635?mt=8 or search "emoji free" in the app store. It places a globe button in your keyboard so you can easily switch between it and whatever other keyboard(s) you use.

Don't be fooled by the FREE name. All emoji apps unlock the SAME keyboard in iOS with the SAME icons. Don't waste a buck unless you're feeling especially generous or something. The premium versions' authors are ripping people off, IMHO.

Oh, and once you've unlocked the keyboard, you can safely delete the app from your device and maintain full use of the icons.

I somehow have that keyboard without downloading any apps :lol

JEFF MINTER'S NEW GAME IS OUT, I HATE ANYONE WHO DOESN'T BUY IT

Minotaur Rescue, a combination of Space War, Asteroids, old school graphics and multiplayer shooting mayhem. Universal app, 99 cents.

Even includes a bit of a Atari 2600 Combat bonus game!
I don't quite understand how to play this game yet, but I'm #10 in the world. For the next five minutes.

It's basically Asteroids on the 2600 plus Spacewar's central gravity point plus an exploding confetti factory in the background. Shoot the rocks before they get pulled into the center. Collect the Minotaurs before they get pulled into the center. Shoot UFOs before they shoot you. That's pretty much it :)

I was #14 last time I looked I MUST DESTROY YOU

right now the #1 thing I want for iOS is a way to backup my save data in games

with only 32GB there is no way I can keep all my games on my ipod touch :lol

anyone use icab? how do i fix this?
Does the X do anything? I've never seen that myself, looks like full screen mode but with a new layout (never seen that home and X button). Try 2, 3, or 4 finger taps or swipes (in all 4 directions). One of those gestures could be mapped to full screen or whatever that is.

The carriers would probably want a few dollars added to your phone bill for every app you download, just like the good ol days!

When you connect it, refuse the sync dialog (read it carefully and select the correct button), right click on the iPod in the list of stuff on the left and select "Transfer Purchases." It should copy everything* over to your new computer, and hopefully let you sync from that point on. *Everything being apps and newly purchased music, other music may just get wiped.

You can sorta do this with backup extractor or iPhone disk stuff. Just gotta find the right folder, backup the contents somewhere, and copy it back after you put the app back on.

...not that I've tried it myself. I've only used it to recover a diagram I drew in Adobe Ideas a while back.
