The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming |OT2| Part II

Are there any chance Cave give their games an ipad update? I know the pad doesn't have enough ram for the hd sprites but I don't care about that, I just want the full playable screen .it's the same with I Must Run! where I end up losing a life since my finger gets on the out-of-screen zone and controls won't respond anymore -_-

Played some Mirror's Edge last night, it's a decent enough game. I probably wouldn't have paid the full price for it but glad I grabbed it for free when I could.

But it has exclusive levels ffffffuuuuu

What a gyp! That means for full Angry Birds happiness you need AB, ABlite, ABS, and ABSlite. Argghhhh

Wtf, really? Damnit...gotta download it also ffs

DoDonPachi only really 'clicked' with me recently (or to be more precise, the awesome 'iPhone mode' did). Goddamn... Sooooo good. Definitely among my top favs with Infinity Blade and Nova 2.

Some questions though:
- I sometimes seem to die (lose a life) instead of a bomb going off when I still have bombs, 'sup with that?
- I also sometimes die while I'm spinning up my hyper cannon, I'm supposed to be invulnerable at that moment, right?

Are there any good card game compilations? Or are they all single game apps really? I see lots of poker ones but I want some different card games, I guess I was just spoiled with DS Clubhouse Games.

Cause you need 8 buttons for Asteroids of course.

Do any modern vertical games use more than 4?
No... But it still interests me. Nice buttons and some nice support would be cool. Landscape mode would be killer.

They really butchered Broken Sword, didn't they? No "Paris in the fall" intro for George, the first 30 minutes throws two slider and a cipher puzzle at you which feels out of place in a Point and Click and then to top it off, they've changed and dumbed down George's opening dialog.

"The explosion was to change my life forever" is gone and now some useless joke is made. Ruins the tone and makes the player (new) think the game is about Nico and her report.

Escape from your criteria and go for the best puzzle game on ios: Drop 7!

I bought Drop 7 as part of the Indie iPhone Holiday sale, and I was a bit disappointed. I tried out the Chain Factor flash game which TouchArcade said Drop 7 was based on, but when I played Drop 7 itself, no power-ups!

Drop 7 is pretty cool, but it just feels lacking without the Power-ups mode to mix things up.

It's not a match 3 game, but my current game of choice is Trainyard. My favorite puzzle game on iPhone.

I did just that, for some reason despite it being raved about for an age I never did pick it up before. I'm not disappointed, great concept and once you get into the flow of it it's incredibly satisfying. Thanks!

Yeah the changes made really were odd, I really like the Nico stuff that was added but there was no need to change stuff like Georges iconic opening line. It's made worse when the new line that replaces it is just plain dumb and makes George come off as an annoying american which he isn't of course. Still it's nice to have one of my favourite games in my pocket even if it isn't the best version of it.

Heroes of Kalevala is the best of the match-3.

Sell it to me!

They're pretty responsive, you could try emailing support or asking about it on Twitter. No clue if it's possible, but it would definitely be nice to have controls extend out all the way. Just wish there were an option for a custom control layout.

Anybody still playing Dodonpachi, even if once in a while?
Not as much as I want, but it's still probably one of my most played. I made it to the second loop for the first time pretty recently, and it was with Power (hardest one to clear with iirc).

Not sure on the first...and really not sure on the second cause I rarely play iPhone mode. The bomb thing might have to do with timing perhaps? If it's not a bug it's probably sommething with the way the system works. You could probably ask Cave for an answer if you can't find it in a guide.

I got knocked out of a hyper while doing the hyper cannon last time I tried it but I'm not sure what caused it exactly...there was a bunch of stuff blasting at me so it could've been anything. Not sure if you can get blown up during it though.

Yeah support is always the big thing. I'm not even sure something like that is allowed, I wonder if it basically just shows up as a keyboard and uses keyboard inputs for the game (...I'm not even sure that's allowed either).

Dumb. Just have a single app with additional IAPs, and come out with a true sequel. Flooding the market Lite, Free, Seasons, and Regular is very disjointed.
Gives them more exposure. You can't escape it cause it's everywhere, it's like it peer pressures people into trying it out!

I don't give a damn for the game myself

What are you supposed to do when you download an app and it is just stuck "waiting" on the home screen?
Did you figure it out yet? Try hitting the icon to "pause" it then hitting it again.

Then I need your openfeint frienship since I'd like me some Dodonpachi's highscores to try to match... Even tho I'm crappy at scoring high :)

Oh good, you just added me on GC, you're on openfeint as well?
For the first question: on which mode?
Second question: nope, you're not invincible!

Cool, I didn't know they would actually reply in english! I will definitely aske them about that... Also, after 7 and I say seven weeks I finally received the cheapo Futari 1.5 Platinum from PA, alleluja!
Anyway, you're definitely better than me (for now ;P) and I don't know if you dig openfeint but if that's the case shoot me a pm if you don't wanna write it down on the open :)

Guys, is there a good city building game on the iPhone? I got a call and I will get my iPhone 4 next Monday and I would like a city building game.

SimCity Deluxe is probably your best bet.

Hd version just came out last month, dunno if the iphone one supports retina.

I like Virtual City the best. There's a demo of it I believe. Final game has a sandbox mode if you just want to build a city, and not do the various missions. I found the SimCity games too cumbersome for iphone.

You've got Unify, right? If not, that's the coolest tetris-like I've played in ages.

OK, I just got an email from my 60 year old, old school rpg loving mother. She bought an ipad today and wants to know what rpg's work well on it?

Any suggestions?

After playing the shit out of Game Dev Story, I bought Kairosoft's latest games they've added to the iTunes app store (sadly only available at the japanese store):

ゆけむり温泉郷
Build your own japanese onsen (hot spring).
Supported languages: Japanese & English
Price: ¥450 (25% OFF sale atm)

I was living for a pretty long time in Hokkaido, so I have a special connection to onsen - I'm loving this game :lol ! It's pretty good to be honest.

Game is alright. Out of the three released iPhone games by Kairosoft, it's the weakest one imho. But you guys may like it, since it's focused on gaming :).

I really want Kairosoft to release their FOMA903 games on iPhone aswell. Especially the latest one which is focused on soccer: http://kairosoft.net/kairopark/soccer.html

Director's cut has always been like that.
Yeah, some dialogues are a bit dumbed down, but there are also many good things about it.

iPhone mode, and it says in the instructions that when I get hit, a bomb goes off. I'd assume this sorta means I'm using up bombs and only losing lives when I'm out of bombs but that's not entirely how it works it seems.

About the second question, I think I get it now... I mean, I get the impression I'm invincible cause while I'm spinning up the cannon, a lot of my bullets are still canceling out lasers and bullets from enemies when they collide, right?

can you gift apps? My wife has Y3,000 in her itunes account she never uses, I was thinking to pick up that app too.

Yes, you can. In iTunes, under the large icon of the app, there's the "Buy Now" button with a little arrow tab to the right. Click on that and a menu drops down, letting you share the app's page to Facebook and twitter, or gift the app, etc.

You wrote that the onsen game supports English, so I bought it but it seems to be only in Japanese. How were you able to change the language? Did I just waste ¥450?

It says the game supports English & Japanese on the iTunes page (言語: 日本語, 英語).

I see that too, but it seems to only be in Japanese. I have my Ipod Touch set for English, and it doesn't change it from Japanese. I also had my wife (who is Japanese) look through the all menus and she couldn't find a language setting either. So beware it might not actually have English in it.

I never played the original game, what was the main difference between th DC. I finished it yesterday...I felt the games puzzles seemed to get easier as the game progressed, also I liked playing as the girl, I wish there was more missions with her.

Finally I had 2 or 3 left over items that I never needed which I felt was really strange.

The parts where you play as Nico are all new, in the original game you only played as George and the game began right after the explosion.

The little close-up windows are new too, they were drawn by Dave Gibbons (of Watchmen fame) there wasn't anything like that in the original. Aside from that there's a bunch of minor dialogue changes to accomodate the new parts of the game, some of the changes were to fairly well-known lines which annoyed quite alot of long time fans.

The hint system, diary and interactive hotspots are all part of the DC too.

If you want more stuff as Nico then I'd suggest picking up Broken Sword 2 Remastered. It's not changed as much as Broken Sword 1 (mostly just the close-ups and gameplay engine stuff). That game is fairly evenly spread amongst playing as Nico and George, although Nico has a new voice actress who isn't quite the same as the original.

ok, having problems with this (sorry mehdi_san). Does it not let you gift using your current balance? Although I'm signed in, with money in the account, its asking me for billing info. It let me buy it for myself using credit, just not gift it.
