wouldn't recommend it but i think there's a lite version.
Jumping Flash was ace, I would love an iOS port of that!

Hol-leeee... just got a great high-score on Minotaur Rescue, Deep Space mode, sitting at no. 2 on the leaderboards just behind Jeff Minter himself. Just wanna throw out my almost daily recommendation for people to download and play this game.

It may look like a simple Asteroids clone but scratch the surface and it's a brilliant score attach shmup with unique controls and a surprisingly deep scoring system. I've been hopelessly addicted to it all week, it's honestly the best shooter I've played so far on iOS. Spread the word GAF!

There are a pitiful handful of people on the leaderboards, barely over 1000, this game seriously deserves more exposure.
I just want to say I agree with absolutely every word this man has said. It's easily one of the best shooters I've played in the last ten years. 99 cents, people.

I'm barely in the top 50 God DAMN IT

Yep, this game is the real deal.

There was someone a few pages back asking whether the hyper cannon in Dodonpachi (iPhone mode) makes you invulnerable or not, I figured it out a bit yesterday. It seems like you're invulnerable to bullets and lasers, but not objects. Like the stage 3 or 4 boss that throws those balls at you can break it up, or the rotating laser turrets on 5, or the stuff the final boss throws out. I'm not sure enemies themselves can hit you though, I'm guessing they get destroyed though (all the other stuff I mentioned is indestructible, so that may be the key).

Aha! That makes sense! Thanks ;).

jumping flash is a good way to look at it, I had fun last night and cleared the first 17 levels, worth it so far I think.

Good man! Where about are you on the leaderboard Robert? I hit 39 last night with a score just over 2 mil, desperate to crack that top 25... Although I fear I may be hitting an iPhone ceiling, I'd bet good money that the guy with the 25 mil score at the top is on iPad.

Still, it's an incredible game, I just want it to sell more so we get more of these gems out of him.

Again for the new page - Minotaur Rescue, 99 cents, get on it GAF!

Dude, thanks for the mention of this game. Just bought it and it's AWESOME! Seriously, everyone with 99cents to spare should get Minotaur Rescue.

Ha, based on your avatar I'd say this is a good game for you :D

Just had another run at solar mode, got 3,033,274 and landed place 25 on the leaderboard! Aw yeah!!

The problem with the boards is that on OpenFeint it shows both scores for OF and Gamecentre, so many people appear on there twice which is kinda unfair. If you take out the doubles I'm actually at place 19... not a fan of OpenFeint at all though, it's ugly and clunky and based on this game's leaderboards, buggy too.

Love this game to bits though, even after a good 10 hours of playing its depth is still revealing itself to me.

Speaking of openfeint and gamecenter, com2us just launched their own network thingy, at first I did wonder why would you even bother with one now that gamecenter is here but in the one game that has it which I own you can save your main save online to your profile, one good use for it I guess. But doesn't plus+ do that now also for things like galaxy on fire 2?

Before game center I use to like earning achievements for my gameloft live account but now I only really bother about game center achievements, lame I know but that's how I am :P

I'm looking for more people to compare high scores with for games like Tilt To Live and Minotaur Rescue. Dash Kappei, can you add me to the list?

Bioshocked = YouInReverse [GC]

All you people on the Flick Kick Football gamecenter leaderboards need to watch out. I'm climbing the charts.

Oh, and Mad Skills Motocross will debut for $1.99 tomorrow and be universal.

I'm a big fan of these kinds of shooters done right, Geometry Wars: Touch, CS_One, and to a slightly lesser extent Critical Wave (but only cause Geometry Wars made it obsolete to me). So... I was hesitant to pick up Minotaur Rescue. It looked cool but... I've tried so many games of this type and most of them are just okay to me and don't hold a candle to my favorites.

But I must say... Minotaur Rescue is awesome. It's one of those games that just gets the feel *absolutely* right. Excellent shit. To me personally, it's what Bit Pilot should have been. (which was a bit too fiddly control-wise and a bit too sterile and bland stylistically to me)

Hell yeah, more for the Minotrain! Feel free to add me, Jedeye Sniv on GC if you want a high score to aim at :P

I totally agree though, once you get over that control hump it's just so intuitive and fast-paced, it's one of the few iOS shooters where I don't feel hampered by the controls. IMO this is the best iOS shooter I've played yet, the controls are unique to the device and I don't feel like it's trying to ape twin-stick controls and failing. (that said if every twin stick game had Age of Zombies' controls the world would be a better place)

I know you're super psyched for it - make sure to let us know how it is.

Damn. And I thought I was done with the arcade mode. Though what I really want from FKF is to complete the single 2 achievements I have yet to do :[

On that second note - I WILL BUY MSM TOMORROW THE MOMENT I SEE IT ON THE APP STORE

I SUPPORT UNIVERSAL APPS

YES

solipskier.. there's been much, much raving about this game, and I finally coughed up a buck to buy it. I have played it a few times - the mechanic seems neat but I lose interest immediately. I'm not a weirdo - what am I missing here?

One of my big problems with it is an issue I have with many iOS games, my finger covers the action where I want to be watching most of the time.

Works great on my iPad.

Except for the fingers covering the action part, I felt the same way about Solipskier.

I was similar until I started improving my scores and getting into a good flow. That said, I'm sure relative to people on this board my highscore is probably laughable - 142.4 million - but that's not really the point :P

How would people describe the controls in Minotaur Rescue? I've been playing it, and I have some grasp on what I'm doing, but have no idea how to describe it.

What's the general feeling to audio/music in iphone games?

I'm the kind of person who always switches off any ingame audio on my phone, but myself and a fellow gaffer are on the home straight of finishing a game we're working on (it's a simple arcade game, short bursts of play rather then anything you'd play for a long period of time) and i'm conscious its a big deal for some people.

We are going to get some degree of audio in, but we really don't want to see low ratings/reviews if there's not enough...

We have seen very few complaints about audio in our titles, but also very few compliments either. Doesn't seem as big a factor to the mass market as graphics, controls, gameplay, the amount of content etc. I'd make sure the audio/music is in and it is solid, but I wouldn't spend too much time or money on it.

What I would suggest though is you have the ability to listen to your iPhone music in place of your game music, because when our games didn't have that we got a lot of complaints that this functionality was missing.

Describe the controls? That is tricky I agree. I would say they are 'stroke controls', or gestural I guess. Or maybe even flick. I find the best way to play is to feather the direction for the ship with lots of tiny movements, coupled with some more confident strokes for movement, that way you get a nice back and forth spread of shots.

Hell yes, whenever I get a game where I can't listen to the iPod, it goes from being something I would play every day to something that rarely gets loaded up if ever. Pac-Man CE is especially guilty of this, I would play it every day if it would just let me listen to a podcast wile I did so.

Audio is extremely important to me. It's an integral part of the experience. If a game has only a single track, I'll play it less. If a game doesn't have a track, I'll probably play it once and delete. I don't know, maybe I'm weird.

I use my iPod on the go all the time, and the ability not to listen to my own soundtracks is a real deal breaker to me. Some games, I can put up with it, but with others, it's a real turn-off to actually play it because sometimes you just want to chill to music. :lol

Are you at the top? I couldn't remember who it was. I'll join the 200 club soon ;)

I’m at the top of my GC friends list. I doubt my score of 202 is the highest score in arcade mode on Gaf.
Anyway... Hurry up and join the 200 club! I need a reason to better my score!;D

Since the game centre thread was taken down I haven’t added anyone new.

Khanage = Khanage [GC] / _abu_ [OF]
Feel free to add me and let me know you’re from Gaf.

I've been playing more Tumbledrop recently (wasn't that made by a GAFer? congrats on the great game!), and it's a really fun physics puzzler. Going for the heart/star medals is a good challenge. It's all very cute, too.

It's sort of like a virtual track ball, except instead of swiping faster to move faster, you hold down your finger after the swipe to accelerate. The further your swipe before holding, the faster your movement.

I recently switched from using my thumb to using my pointer finger, and I'm liking it even more. There's a difficulty level, but also a lot of depth and precision in the controls.

Re: my place on the leaderboards, I'm In the top 50, a bit higher in survival. Feel free to add me: I'm Brainfreezebob on openfeint.

Survival is becoming my thing now. The pace is faster, and it's so short you can play several games in a little time hole (waiting for the kettle to boil, etc). Such a great game.

Depends on the music and how it fits in. I'm of the "audio is integral to the experience" school of thought so I take music as part of the package. The guy above wants to listen to podcasts while playing Pac Man CE, while I can't imagine playing without the original music.

That said it depends on your audio too. It's makes a big impression when the audio is either lacking or just sucks. A lot of smaller devs make nice looking games, but it seems like a lot suck (or are nonexistent) in the audio department.

Just noticed while looking at game center on my ipod that Ridge Racer has cheese mints now :D the last update I had was for online time leaderboards but now features more stuff.

Ridge Racer has gone from one of the worst running pieces of crap to a great racing game for cheap, I do suggest buying it if you like your racing games.

I just really wish it had Retina. It's a good looking game, but looks like dog shit on iPhone 4 due to scaling. :(

A shame, is there any enhancements for running on a 3gs or 4? I know from launch they had to remove some reflective paint work and a few level items to get the frame rate stable on older devices, do those things come back on the newer ones?
