japtor said:There was someone a few pages back asking whether the hyper cannon in Dodonpachi (iPhone mode) makes you invulnerable or not, I figured it out a bit yesterday. It seems like you're invulnerable to bullets and lasers, but not objects. Like the stage 3 or 4 boss that throws those balls at you can break it up, or the rotating laser turrets on 5, or the stuff the final boss throws out. I'm not sure enemies themselves can hit you though, I'm guessing they get destroyed though (all the other stuff I mentioned is indestructible, so that may be the key).

My favorite part about Mad Skills Motocross is the excellent physics in the game. There are so many subtle nuances with how you're able to lean on your bike when accelerating and taking jumps that it adds a lot of skill and strategy to how you race. It's very organic, and the gameplay just feels right.

Old school gaming awesome, Game Center, Universal, and you play as Jesus... I'm almost sold... I just need impressions
When I first got on Game Center, I added a few people who I knew and jacked a couple games from them too. Glad to help, heh.Dash Kappei said:oh, I've also updated the fast-growing NeoGAF's Gamecenter list,

It's also very dumb on Activision's part to keep having a separate leaderboard system for Geo Wars Touch... A system which I dunno why it fails me to register for the one game I'm good at, meh.
IF I remember I'll definitely repost the full list code with the new page.

Game Center & OpenFeint's NeoGAFFERS list said:As support for Gamecenter grows, and Openfeint's not that bad as well, it seemed a good idea to give Gaffers one more reason to check out highscore leaderboards and online multiplayer. Hundred games support the feature now, and more and more are adding it by the day, either out of the gate or with a post-launch patch. Best of the best like Flick Kick Football, Dodonpachi, Bit Trip Beat and Canabalt already have it, and tomorrow your favorite game will too! Steam, Psn and Live friend lists showed us how much friendly competion, or co-operaration, can improve a game we love, and with time iOS will make for great Gamecenter communities as well... The ubiquity of portable platform will make GC a staple of the gaming experience, you don't want to miss on that, right?

Quick impressions:RelentlessRolento said:post impressions once you play it a bit. i"m 50/50 about it
Honestly I'm not sure how it works, I just saw someone else showing it on a video. I think you just spin it around in a circle to charge it up, when the circle turns red I guess it's maxed out, then it fires. You can do it once you fill up the hyper meter in the upper left. The upper right is the slaughter/menace meter. Slaughter is raised by killing stuff, menace is raised by going near bullets. While slaughter is high your weapons boost but your chain counts down, while menace is high your hyper meter builds up fast. Not really sure of the ideal way to score in this mode, someone wrote a guide over on TouchArcade though. Apparently if you launch the cannon while M is maxed out, you fill the hyper meter immediately so you can launch another cannon right afterwards.Dash Kappei said:Yep.
i've never played much of iphone mode honestly, but why sometimes my hyper cannon charges up fast while tilting and sometimes it doesn't? Do I just need to swipe full left and then full right, or twitch like crazy, or... And also, to super charge first level, then second and third, I basically need to charge hyper cannon mode, then fire it and supercharge, and then do all over agaim for up to three times? Should the bee icon at the bottom change color?
[also thanks for the other recommendation, I grabbed Plaintext which si fine for my needs]
Edit:
Grabbed Minotaur, damn you fellow gamecentergaffers how am I ever supposed to get good at a game if I end up buyin' a new one every 6 hours
Also I'll say this once: excuse my typos guys, now and in the future, since I mostly type from the pad's virtual keyboard.

Regarding Tempest 2000 - yes, it'd be great to do a version for iOS but unfortunately the rights to Tempest games belong to whoever bought the Atari name last I guess. Not to say that one day I might not do some kind of update to T2K, only that it'll have to be sufficiently distinct from Atari Tempest to not cause me any bother.
Anyway I think a lot of you will enjoy Minotaur Project #2 which i have already started work on since I am basing it around a game which i know is dear to many and which I can do a remix of without getting in any bother"

Send me a pm if you want to be taken off the list or to update your profile.
Don't just wait on others to add you, try to at least add some of those posted above you on the list if you want to get the ball rolling... It's up to you.
Shouts for old games getting a Gamecenter update are always very appreciated!
The list will be posted only upon request and once in a while, something reasonable so to not make it redundant.

It didn't show any real name in the request tho, I'm 99% positive about that, it said Dallow on the header and then "Dallow GAF or something would like..." etc.
but I won't add you to the list unless you say so, so off the list for now and you'll let me know in case you change idea.

I recently switched from using my thumb to using my pointer finger, and I'm liking it even more. There's a difficulty level, but also a lot of depth and precision in the controls.
Re: my place on the leaderboards, I'm In the top 50, a bit higher in survival. Feel free to add me: I'm Brainfreezebob on openfeint.
Survival is becoming my thing now. The pace is faster, and it's so short you can play several games in a little time hole (waiting for the kettle to boil, etc). Such a great game.
japtor said:Depends on the music and how it fits in. I'm of the "audio is integral to the experience" school of thought so I take music as part of the package. The guy above wants to listen to podcasts while playing Pac Man CE, while I can't imagine playing without the original music.
That said it depends on your audio too. It's makes a big impression when the audio is either lacking or just sucks. A lot of smaller devs make nice looking games, but it seems like a lot suck (or are nonexistent) in the audio department.

It's not blurry scaling. It's exact 4x scaling. That is how low-res the old screens were.Princess Skittles said:Okay I'm new here, be gentle.
Big question for me, is there a way to turn off the damn blurry scaling for iPhone 3 games on iPhone 4?
All these lovely pixels.. ruined. ;___;
320x480 output will always look somewhat blurry on a 640x960 display, compared to native resolution.Princess Skittles said:Okay I'm new here, be gentle.

If you play an old game on iphone 4 it will look exactly the same as it does on older phones, the scaling is exact so nothing will blur, if you do get bluring it's just how the game looks and how it was designed, a lot of the rpg's on the marketplace are mobile phone ports so they are upscaled a little bit, no way around it.Princess Skittles said:Okay I'm new here, be gentle.

The scaling is not done 1:1 as it could be (since the resolution is doubled on both axises), it's filtered and the image comes out extremely blurry.jts said:320x480 output will always look somewhat blurry on a 640x960 display.
Without scaling, those games would look very tiny and be unplayable on the iPhone 4 screen.
Still, due to iPhone 4 res being 4x the previous iPhones, the upscaling is near perfect, with one output pixel taking the place of 4 display pixels instead, with no distorting, no artifacts. It's just low res.
Best you can do is hope for that specific game to be updated for retina display by its developer.
It is perfect scaling. It is exactly 4 times as many pixels. 480x320 = 960x640. It really is quadruple the amount of pixels with no filtering. You're looking at a blurry game that may have been scaled by the developer.Princess Skittles said:The scaling is not done 1:1 as it could be (since the resolution is doubled on both axises), it's filtered and the image comes out extremely blurry.
If they simply double the pixels without filtering, you'd get a crisp (albeit low resolution) image.
Ironically, if I take a screenshot and view it in photos, it's clean and crisp.
I'm pretty sure it's not. Everything I've downloaded has disgusting bi-linear filtering.Liu Kang Baking A Pie said:It is perfect scaling. It is exactly 4 times as many pixels. 480x320 = 960x640. What the hell? Do you think the entire world is lying about how many pixels are on the screen and everyone has been duped?Princess Skittles said:I'm pretty sure it's not.
