Not actually that important
Finally have enough credits for Infinity Blade II on free my apps. How do I create a US account from the UK? Or has this all been for nothing?

Super easy, takes less than 5 minutes to create a US account.
Another thing to update the OP with, I guess... For now google it? ;) basically on iTunes/Appstore log out of your account, then New Account, choose US, fake address (restaurant, whatever) and choose the non credit card bound option related to payments.

Someone word it better and it's going straight to the first post (credited to you, of course), FAQ section.

IIRC you actually have to log out, then try to purchase a free game. Then there will be a prompt to ask you to either create a new account or use an existing one. IMHO thay is the only way it won't ask you for either a gift card or credit card to confirm your payment area, simce you're buying a free product. That's how I did it at least

There's a step by step tutorial on apple's site, it's probably best to copy the info from there or just link to it on the OP:

FWIW: I just downloaded the free Dominion app. I'd never actually played the game before; it took a couple of games to get the basic idea down (deck efficiency) but I'm kinda starting to enjoy it now. It says it has an online mode, but I don't think I could do an asynchronous game - too easy to lose track of what's going on.

The extra books in freemium Wind-up Knight are $1.99 a piece when the original game was 99 cents? You can technically play through the game without paying a cent, but after S ranking every stage in Book 1 I have 1300 "notes" and unlocking book 2 costs 1200 notes or $2. I don't mind S ranking everything as that's the point of the game, but it is disappointing to know that after I'm done I won't be able to purchase anything of value from the armory.

Do SE games ever go on sale? If so, usually how big is the discount? I'm thinking of picking up FF:Tactics for iPad.

The sale prices are generally around 20% to 50% off depending on the popularity of the title. For the time being you may want to hold off on buying FFT as SE is still working on some enhancements for a future update. If you don't already own FFT, it's easily worth $18. Hopefully they port Tactics Ogre at some point.

Just came out so it's not going on sale for a long time. I bought it and say it's worth it. The only real problem I have is the blockiness of the battle sprites, which is one of the planned updates.

Hehe, it's called "Lock Clock Rock".

I seem to be getting stuck in the upper blue area with the gate and I can't teleport back down.

Aha!
There's no stage in the game where you can get stuck (spent a lot of time making sure about that). But that stage is tricky!

The basic behaviour of the rhythm-o-porter works like this: After you've stepped in to it, you'll teleport to the next one that activates.
So...
So try to notice how the one in next to the blue gate zaps. There's two zaps just after eachother, which will only send you back to the same rhythm-o-porter - The trick is to enter on the second zap...
Hope that helps!

A Tactics Ogre port would be great

The only Dominion i can find looks like a Risk clone by Chillingo, nothing like the card game, so I'm assuming that's not it. Thanks for the info, I'll stay put and hope it comes out soon!

Is Dominion by Donald X. Vaccarino bo longer on the US appstore? It's still on the NZ store.
http://itunes.apple.com/nz/app/dominion-by-donald-x.-vaccarino/id447395574?mt=8

It's lacking in frills, but for the most part is surprisingly functional. It makes a lot of good choices on how it plays, and instills confidence that a game with a proper budget can make it work well.

Oh, the multiplayer is only 1v1, but I could never get it to work. I just play out strategies against AI. Also, it only has the base set.

Otherwise, is Battle of Gundabad on the store still? It was a Dominion clone.

Played around 2 hours of Venture towns last night, thought I was doing really well then suddenly the mmoney really dried up, unsure what I did wrong, but hey.

To be honest all Kairosoft games should have GameCenter leaderboards, I felt like I really wasted my time yesterday, especially since without GameCenter integration you have absolutely no idea how well you're doing (on in my case, not doing)

Reckless Racing 2 has a ton of content for $5.. for the 99c I paid I feel like I ripped someone off.

Seriously, what a great game.. not just for the iOS, but just a great game.

Also, virtual buttons work perfectly fine.. almost.. almost don't miss buttons.

Yea, I bought this game on the strength of the reviews in this thread and was not disappointed. Hard to be disappointed when it's only .99. But, it's a very solid racer.

I finished Venture Towns but always felt like I was missing something. A lot of the businesses seem to be absolute garbage and it seems like they have to have hidden benefits somewhere else. Otherwise why would you bother with businesses that take five or six visits a month to be profitable when others only require two? Also, be very careful not to expand too quickly, because opening new businesses often leads to older businesses no longer attracting visitors. Be ruthless in removing underperforming locations.

Edge (more specifically, Jason Killingsworth) has reviewed Ziggurat:

http://www.edge-online.com/reviews/ziggurat-review

For a game with a premise as simple as kill the aliens before they kill you, Ziggurat's stylishly retro visuals, gleeful arcade precision and deeply interlocking mechanics trigger a chain reaction that kicks off like some interstellar combustion. Not the sound of a world ending. But the sort of bang that would make Richard Dawkins lean back, fold his arms and grin like a chimp. [9]

Ziggurat is just sublime.

Love how it the music is timed to the action onscreen. Its like a 16-bit music video.

If you told me two years ago I'd be acting like a fanboy over a game Tim Rogers designed, I would have incredulously laughed my ass off.

But the man put his money where his mouth his and actually turned out something really amazing for a first attempt.

Going through a few of my most recent purchases:

Can't recommend:

Midway Arcade - Content rich, but, controls stink. maybe still invest $.99 now and hope for an update later on?

Food Fight IOS - Nice implementation, but, game is kinda lame. I love Ascension, and this is from the same dev. Asynch games take forever and aren't very interesting. If you play it locally and your foe is your 7 year old son or daughter, it may still be worth it.

Consider it:

Gridrunner - If you're an arcade fan or an "older" gamer (Do we have a thread devoted to "Gamers of a Certain Age" (like >30) where we can safely still pine for things like Atari 2600s and 8-bit graphics but not in a hipster way?)

Must buy:

Reckless Racing 2 - With the recent $.99 sale, it's a bargain. Very content rich, well done. A steal at that price.

Beat Hazard Ultra - I just zone out playing the single stick version. It's gorgeous.

It is so cool to have Gridrunner on my phone. My Dad and I sunk a lot of time on this game back on our C64.

It is funny, but it is the sounds and music of these old games that I "pine for in a non-hipster sort of way".

I found it, got confused by the Chillingo clone... Also, according to BGG the developers said that the original will come out "in the next few weeks"... And they said that at the end of January. I have hope.

I don't know if all of the following are still free but in addition to Jetpack Joyride, you could try:
- Robot wants Kitty. There's more stuff as IAP but the free base game is pretty cool. It's like a micro metroid.
- Grisly Manor is supposed to be really good. I haven't played yet but it was still free 2 weeks ago.
- Sentinel 1, 2 and 3 are TD games. They were free recently

Fantastic suggestions! RwK = the tits.

Also, downloaded "Hero Academy" today on a whim and crammed it into my backlog. Does anybody have any impressions of it?

Gridrunner is the best game ever made.....FACT!!! New high score of 482,129 on Pure. It's still a long way til #1 though...

Hearing mixed things about this. Apparently it's fun, the presentation is great and the humour is spot on.

Also, though, apparently there are some things that can only be bought with premium currency, and premium currency is very, very hard to come by without using IAP. Even if you do IAP, you're looking at something like $15 for one building. Tiny Tower has set the bar very high for the way it uses premium currency and nothing's really come close.

Holy craaaap! I top out at around 200,000, way to go man!

I agree though, Gridrunner iOS really is one of the best shooters I've ever played. It's so stripped down and simple while also being manic and complex, it's a masterpiece. Everyone that's into the Cave games should check this out too, it's God tier stuff.

And it's simply amazing on the iCade too.

Just upgraded from an iPad 1 to a 2, does anyone know if there's a list of games that take advantage of the improved hardware in the iPad 2?

I know of Infinity Blade, Reckless Racing 2 and Real Racing 2.

Well said. Would love for this game to get more support and not just from the Minter fans. Too bad he doesn't make lite versions of his games to convert some people.

How does this game control on icade? Isn't icade a digital joystick? Wouldn't that be bad for this game since it has analog movement?

It works fairly flawlesly I'd say. I never really feel limited by it, there's a nice fine control as well as being able to zip about the screen. I feel that I'm a bit better with it so far. That predictability of movement is quite useful. And I like that old school arcade feel that using the cab gives to it :D

I'm continuing to wave the 4X flag in this thread by noting that Starbase Orion had a massive update yesterday that added tons of new features, among them pass & play, larger galaxies, 4 human vs 4 cpu players, 4 player survival co-op, improved AI.. well take a look at the notes.. :)

NEW FEATURES

• Pass and Play Games
Who else enjoys having a get together with friends to battle for galactic conquest? I know we do, and so do the numerous Starbase Orion players who have requested Pass and Play games be added! Now you can enjoy battling it out with friends when you only one device to play on.

• More Empires Per Map
Previously Starbase Orion limited game to four empires; you can now enjoy the game with up to eight empires! For single player that’s you and seven computer opponents. For GameCenter and Pass and Play that's four human players and four computer players. Which leads us too...

• Computer Empires in Multiplayer Matches
Not satisfied with conquering just your friends? Now you can up the ante by throwing up to four computer empires into the mix. Now wouldn't it be cool if you could team up with your friends against the computer players...

• New "Allied" and "Survival" Game Modes
Joining the current "Classic" (free-for-all) game mode are two brand new game modes available in single and multiplayer games. "Allied" mode splits all of the empires into two teams mixing human and computer players. "Survival" mode is human vs computer cooperative team play; can you and your allies compete against a team of new and improved computer players? We'll see with...

• Faster and More Devious Computer Opponents
Battle-tested by some of the finest Starbase Orion players around, the AI for SO has received continual improvement in both performance (how quickly it takes its turns) and strategy (how much of a challenge it provides). If you beat the game on Impossible before, then the Starbase Orion AI wants a rematch!

• User Customizable Build Focuses
Players can now customize the priority listing for the Industry, Farming, Research, and Military build focuses. Don't want to build Cloning Facilities? Or you want all planets to default to Funding or Industry when idle? Simply go to the CUSTOM BUILD FOCUS option in the main options menu. Custom build focuses are synced over iCloud and are shared between all of your current games!

There are so many great new features; we can't fit them all in the size restrictions of this update log! Here are some more key features, if you want the full description please visit the Starbase Orion website.

• New Map Size, "Massive"
• New Game Speed, "Quick"
• Retreat From Combat
• Primary Targets in Combat
• Escort Ships in Combat
• New Race Attribute: Tolerant
• Production Costs for Ship Systems Reduced
• New Ship System: Shield Modulation Unit
• New Ship System: Improved Energy Controller
• New Ship System: ECM Jammer
• New Ship System: Auxiliary Thrusters
• New Ship System: Combat Engines
• New Ship System: Fast Missile Launcher
• New Technology: Security Training
• New Technology: Personal Cloaking Device
• New Technology: Clandestine Initiative
• Industrial Production Spillover
• New Compression Algorithm for GameCenter Games

More people should give this genius game a shot IMO.

So any impressions of Oh! Edo Towns? Still deciding if I should get that along with Gridunner and Goatup.

Well I hate venture towns, but enjoy edo towns, despite venture towns being a reskinned edo towns

for $.99 (if it's still on sale) I think it's a safe buy for a kairosoft fan

So it's no different than any other freemium. Cool. All those in-game things only available with premium currency are always obtainable with Tapjoy.

I generally like deliberately original themed freemiums over the ones with a famous or well-known theme. I only played the Smurfs one and the Peanuts one for a couple days before I got sick of them. Hopeful for this one, though, as Beejive isn't handling this one. Although, the horrendous Theme Park freemium also came out of this studio if I'm not mistaken.

Extraction: Project Outbreak is free right now. Easy recommendation.

I would post a link, but on the iPhone it's too much of a hassle.
