The iPhone 4 |OT|

I just dropped my iPhone 4 for the 4th time and nothing happened. I really don't think mine can break, anyway I'll never wear a case anymore, ever.

Provably a regular repair cellphone shop might be able to help you without spending too much money.

I tired to play once with and old iPhone 4 and see how "far" could I go without breaking anything, I failed, and Im accustomed open up electronics.

I would recommend against it, not worth the few dollars that you could save.

Yeah, after seeing the steps involved, I figured it wasn't worth potential money saved. Auto-lock after a minute isn't terribly inconvenient, or brute forcing the thing to lock either. Might see about people that do repairs locally though, so thanks.

Does anyone know if there is a way, via jailbreaking, to assign the lock button to a software function? I.e. create an app icon (or something within an app) that when pressed on the touchscreen will perform the same function as simply pressing the physical power/lock button? That, or re-assigning it to the other physical buttons somehow (like pressing both volume keys at once or something).

Are you sure no apps are running in the background? Ideally after a full charge you should lose 5-10% battery life if the phone isnt being used for 8 hours. Something isn't right.
Battery life has been shit on my 4S since I got it compared to the 4 which was amazing. It sucks away a lot in standby.

I think I will try a restore to see if that fixes anything.

Zephyr. Allows you to multitask by just swiping up at the base of the screen. After a couple of weeks of installing it, Ive used the home button only when I want to browse the main screen. Zephyr is a total home button replacement. Im 100% sure this tweak will be 'adopted' by Apple in the next OS refresh.

Looks like a neat app, but I was asking about the power/lock button, not the home button which Zephyr seems to not deal with.

Sorry about that, I thought it was the home button you had a problem with.

There is another way to access the lock button. If you have SBsettings installed, invoke the screen by swiping (I guess the default is the top bar swipe). Press on the power icon>lock. Thats it.

Another way is to purchase a Cydia App 'Lockgestures' which allows you to map shortcuts by performing gestures on screen.

I'm not really sure where to ask for help about this. I was messing with my iPhone 4 and have lost the 4.8mm screw that holds down the wifi antenna. Apparently this was the one part to not lose as it forms the connection for the wifi antenna to function. It is the one highlighted with a turquoise circle in the following picture.

Is there a place to order the screw? All my searches have turned up replacement wifi shields, but I'm not sure if those include the screw I'm missing. Does anyone have any clue how or where I could locate a replacement screw or if the entire wifi antenna kits come with replacement screws. Thanks.

Maybe that? Might include the screw you need.

I just dropped my iPhone 4 and the front screen is cracked :(. It still responds to all my touches and gestures though.

I can get it repaired for £60 but was wondering if anyone fixed it themselves and how easy it would be.

My case broke tonight and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. I'd like something that looks cool, but understated. I also want one that's not going to add too much to the size of the phone. I was hoping GAF would have some cool suggestions.

This is what I've been using ever since I bought the phone. Svelte but no damage to the phone despite countless drops.

How is the latest version of the iphone software? It has been a while since I last upgrades as the updates didn't sound very appealing.

5.0.1 was suppose to fix the mass drainage of battery life. It's helped some, but others still have an issue. Myself included. My iPhone and apps run slow and has problem triangulating its position. I don't know if that has to do with the upgrade. But it didn't happen until I upgraded to iOS5.

My home button is incredibly unresponsive. Any DIY fix guides you guys can recommend?
Don't even bother. The only reall DIY fix would be to open it up and clear massive layers of dust under it, which is nigh impossible to do.

Instead, you now have a perfectly valid reason to call up Apple, or go into their store, and get the phone exchanged for a new one. They are well aware of this problem and are replacing the phone no questions asked.

Are you serious when you say this? I can just take my 18 months-old iPhone 4 to the nearest Apple Store and get them to exchange it just like that ?!

I know they replace it no questions asked when it's under the 1 year warranty. They did so with mine (I had that exact same problem, and my button was acting up maybe only once ever 10 presses) and for numerous other people (just look around macrumors forums). Not sure what happens when you're over the warranty, but the guy at the store will be able to tell you. They are pretty good with honouring warranty even when you're slightly over it btw.

One thing to note with this kind of problem - it's usually possible to replicate it every single time if you press the button the right way, usually using your fingernail to push just the upper part of the button, or on some of the other sides.

Whoa, never noticed but it is indeed possible to replicate the problem easily o_O

Guess I'll restore my phone and go to an Apple Store soon. I'll probably check some French forums first to gauge the situation in our shops.

Alright. My iPhone 4 is 18 months old at this point. I hope they replace it.

A settlement has been reached in a class-action lawsuit targeting the antenna performance of Apple's iPhone 4.

As part of a preliminary approval made this afternoon, U.S. residents who bought Apple's iPhone 4 will be entitled to $15 in cash or a bumper case provided by Apple.

The settlement comes from 18 separate lawsuits that were consolidated into one. All share the claim that Apple was "misrepresenting and concealing material information in the marketing, advertising, sale, and servicing of its iPhone 4--particularly as it relates to the quality of the mobile phone antenna and reception and related software."

The settlement has its own Web site, www.iPhone4Settlement.com, which will be up in the coming weeks (the site doesn't go anywhere right now). There, customers will be able to get information about the settlement and how to make a claim. As part of the arrangement, e-mails will also be sent alerting original buyers to the settlement before April 30, 2012. The claims period is then open for 120 days.

"We believe that the Apple iPhone 4 settlement is fair, adequate, and reasonable," Ira Rothken, co-lead counsel representing the class, told CNET. "We believe that it allows members of the class to choose, and they can get $15 of cash or a bumper, so we believe that type of choice is proportional to the circumstances."

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Hello, I'm still an iPhone EDGE user... the phone is still working but all the buttons, except the home, are dead. So I'm planning to buy an iPhone 4, when the iPhone 5 is launched, so I can grab one for USD$375 (unlocked) from the apple store.

I wanted to ask if the antenna issue is that horrible? I'm planning in buying a bumper with the iPhone 4. Or should I wait one more year to buy the iPhone 4S for the same price?

I got one from getuncommon.com and really like it.

MY 1 year warranty will be over in August. If I walk into an Apple store and say phone locks up sometime turns off by itself blah blah blah, Will they just give me a new one?

I did that with my 3gs when the batt started to die fast. Iphone 4 is showing signs of low batt. after heavy use for 7 months.

What should I do?

From my experience (with a Macbook Pro, at least), they'd test things out and won't do anything if there isn't an issue. You could probably push them to do something, tell them you're not confident it's gonna make it past a month or two.

I don't know how we can predict what they are going to say.

You might get someone lazy/nice, and just give you a new one. You might get someone 'realistic', and go through a series of troubleshooting, including restoring your phone.

You already have experience with it, so I don't know what you're really asking for. Do what you want to do.

They ended up telling me to F off.

Do non official apple places replace the battery? Like those that have apple repair signs?

My iPhone 4 is 20 months old or so. I needed a battery replacement and today walked into a local cell phone repair shop and had them replace the battery for me. They charged $50 and were done in about 5 minutes.

I've been having this issue for about a day now. My Verizon iPhone4 is about 9 months old, and it stopped connecting to 3G and will randomly disconnect from WiFi. Are there any reasons why it would start doing this? I'll be headed into the Verizon or Apple Store if it persists much longer.

Sold my Android to get an iPhone 4. Both phones are AT&T.

Do I just pull the sim card out of the droid and drop it into the iPhone?

Do Androids have microsims? If so then yes, otherwise you'll have to go to an AT&T store and transfer from SIM to MicroSIM since that's what iPhone's support

You can also cut it yourself with scissors and a printed template. Worked for me, but of course there's always the chance that you'll destroy it instead.

After the 4 and the 4S I'm surprisingly geeked out over what the iPhone 5. Can they shrink enough components to push a large battery (a la the new iPad) to make LTE an option on the new phone? Will they finally go for a slightly larger sized screen at the expense of some pixel density? This will still be a Retina display, and an edge-to-edge 3.7" or 4" screen would still allow the device to be pocketable.

And, the biggest if - what has Ives been cooking and slaving over for the last few years? I can't imagine they'll keep the design - as nice and timeless as it is - for another year. Combine that with the further hotness of IOS6 and L:KSDN:F:SDKLFn

I don't want to wait. Give it to me now :(
