Havan't had the best experience so far. I've got a 32GB with a gammy silence rocker and it still hasn't been activated. I ported over from O2, O2 sim dead on Tuesday, still not activated on Vodafone.

Had no phone for 2 days now which isn't great for a business phone, business support aren't much help either, shame.

It's an effective way to see RSS feeds, I have folders for categories of feeds (with the unread amount listed for each folder), each folder has 4-5 feeds in it, and I just start the app, hit a folder and instantly have all the new feeds from that folder mixed together chronologically, then hit a single button and they are all marked read and at the same time I am returned to my directory of other feed folders.

It's a nice simple relaxing way to view feeds I guess, things don't have to do a whole lot to be worth $3 for me, so I just bought it and didn't think twice :)

Alright sold. This just seems a lot better than downloading an app for all the sites I frequent.

You just have to be careful what feeds you put in it (though there are options to play around with in the iPhone settings app), I had some deal sites and tech site that were adding 100s of items in the span of hours, and it's not very practical to scroll through 200+ items every time you want to browse a category. Works best with feeds that do less than 50-100 updates a day.

I wish this thread had more app talk actually, it's nice to see that for a change. I spent a lot of time finding apps since I'm a new iPhone user, and who knows how well I did. I just picked up Walkmeter GPS the other day for $5, and it's also excellent, I can see myself using that one a lot.

TBH, it looks an awful lot like the google reader from their website, probably just animated slicker, I'm not sure. I have to do more clicking through google than I would through my feeder apps to get my info kept in categories. And I get nice little icons of the site next to the item when the feeds are mixed, so I know which site the news is from before I read/expand it.
What's really cool is using the pinch to zoom function to open up the folders and select an individual feed. It feels good, man.

Oops, just realized this is the iPhone thread. I'm talking about the iPad app. :lol

I own both, they're both awesome.

f I can recommend another app to people, it's Grocery Gadget. That thing is perhaps the best todo app I've ever seen, simply due to the fact that it is so awesome and so much more than just a grocery list app due to its versatility.

You get extremely easy to use, iPhone to iPhone instantly synchronized lists (which makes it better than most to do apps out there), no sending things back and forth manually. It's the perfect app for people looking to share an up to date list of task with other iPhone users, and it's simple, and also syncs pictures assigned to the tasks too. Could not be more impressed with it, and it is getting a nice OS4 update very soon too.

I downloaded red laser for scanning bar codes. Doesn't seem to effective with pricing though. I will check out the grocery gadget app.

In case it wasn't posted and people are interested in Bumpers, Upper West Side Apple store received a new shipment today. I picked up mine at 3:00pm and there was around 30 left.

This is an app thread but I think it's sorta died down. Maybe we should bump it to get it going again. Even though I've had my 3G for two years, there was a point where I sorta stopped paying attention to apps and was pretty set and satisfied with what I had. Now that I've got a new phone, I'm seeing how things have matured and what's new so it's almost like looking at the AppStore for the first time.

Reeder is fast, has a clean UI, tons of sharing options, and is easy to configure. I've fiddled with several of the others - NewsRack, Byline - and nothing compared.

eh.. might check out reader... only problem I have is that at work I use Google, and like that Google on my phone and at work are synced. Is there any easy way to sync Google with Reeder?

Since we're talking about Reeder. it just got updated today with iOS 4 support for background task completion and fast app switching.

so, you can open it up, it'll start syncing and then you can close it while it downloads the latest feeds in the background. and, if you set it up in the setting, you can have it cache images in the background, as well.

also fixes the status bar animations that were missing with iOS 4.

edit: Borghe, reeder syncs with google. so anything read, starred, noted, etc in reeder gets synced back to the google reader webpage or other google reader apps (like NNW on the Mac desktop)

I need a new phone. I currently have a shitty Tracphone because my Verizon service ended. Thinking I might as well get an Iphone 4.

Whats the CHEAPEST monthly plane? Including Calls and texts?

I dont really call or text too much, compared to the average person my age, I'd say I use about 150 minutes a month.

On AT&Ts site the cheapest monthly bill I ended up making was $60 a month, with the $200 phone and $36 activation fee. Is that really the cheapest way to go?

Heh, it ONLY works with Google Reader. You can't add feeds to it any other way. Best RSS reader on the iPhone!

should be able to do $40/month for voice, and $15/month for data ($55). That is probably the absolute cheapest you can go. If you want some texting and to not get slammed with 25¢/text incoming AND outgoing, you need the $5 text plan on there also.

Or he can download the TextFree Unlimited app for free. It can assign you a new telephone number for your FREE texting purposes, and the ads they show aren't overly intrusive at all.

Music video shot entirely with an iPhone 4.

Pretty damn impressive actually. With the tripod you really can't even tell.

That's pretty much why the casual digital camcorder/camera market should be scared. It's only a matter of time (and not much at the pace these things are progressing) before that looks like crap by phone camera standards.

What do y'all read on Instapaper? News sites, GAF, etc.?

articles I don't have time to read right now. typically long form articles. it's not really meant for reading Gaf but can be used to save a thread for checking in later (maybe for eating crow?)

i can mark something on my work desktop and read it, nicely formatted, on my ipad or iphone on the road. i can mark something on the iphone when i don't have time to read it and then check it out at home.

an instapaper account is free. you don't need to pay for anything. there's a free version of the iphone app to see if you like it.

Very impressive videos so far, seriously, is this the best all-in-one device ever created? I really can't think of one before the iPhone came around that can do so much so good.

I just wish the app would use badges to let me know I have articles to finish downloading. I tend to forget, then when I'm somewhere without wi-fi and ready to catch up on some articles, they aren't there.

A friend of mine is hearing all the bad news about the iPhone 4 and thinking of buying one of the discounted 3GSs. This seemed like a bad plan to me, but since I bought my 3GS a half-year ago I haven't been paying attention to recent developments about the new iPhone.

Thoughts?

So long as he doesn't lock himself in to a contract for more than a year, why not? Still got plenty of life in it.

I DROPPED MY IPHONE!!

From a table at a restaraunt to the concrete floor!!

It only suffered the smallest of smallest scuffs on the corner of the steel band.. Everything else is fine.

I like how its usually chucked into Twitter and RSS apps. If someone Tweets an interesting article or I find something on Reeder I don't have time for right now, I pop them into Instapaper.

Used it for everything from friends' blogs to Lady Gaga interviews and from Lost episode dissections to game critiques.

Getting a case now?

I broke down and bought a cheap silicone skin to hold me over until more case offerings are out there. I like the look of the bumper, but I dropped my last two phones all the time and I know it wouldn't do enough for me.

Otterbox Commuter looks good. Thinking I'll wait for that.

Never understood why people leave their phones on the table.

That is impressive. Apple should get into the digital camera market

not sure if serious...

with the iPhone, Apple already considers itself part of the digital camera market.

A market that is going to consist of more and more phones in the next 5 years. Why would they create a dedicated P&S camera? That market is gonna shrink.

I have a question for you guys.

I'm trying to set up my school e-mail on my phone so I can have both my gmail AND my school e-mail come through. The email is an @pop.belmont.com (belmont being the school) one, and our school's mail service is powered by Gmail. How do I go about setting the school one up? I don't think Google's help page is up to date. I know I hit "other" under mail in settings, but don't really know what to do from there.

I've been seeing the phone around all over at Columbia university, the whole place has so many Mac users, I was honestly surprised. The screen is indeed fantastic, though other than that I really don't find anything else special about it; still cool though.

Moderate usage today during work and afterwards and still have 65% battery left...

I never had a smartphone with that kind of battery life before. :D

There should be a page on your university site on how to configure a webmail client like outlook or thunderbird. Use those settings and numbers
