In a video game inferiority complex kind of way, I guess. Like it's reserved for movies or something...In what way :/
I'm not sure how the word 'part 2" can be pretentious or egoistical. It just means it's a continuation of the story in the first.

I love that sequel naming can be pretentious now.

Ok, but please understand that it's rather pretentious and arrogant for you to assume a developer's intent just by the words 'part 2'.So does having a 2 without the word "part." It sounds like they are trying too hard to make it sound like a play or an artsy film.
i don't know why you're making it seem like i'm boycotting the game because of this. it's just a detail i would've liked.
and yeah, Ashley's normal speaking voice does sound young and immature
i like the title. I prefer it to The Last of Us 2 or The Last of Us: American Dreams (using the comic name as an example). as long as the story and gameplay is good i really don't care what it's called tbh. let's just hope for an enjoyable game.
i like the idea of ellie as the main character. hopefully we get to play as her throughout most of the game instead of joel. i have a feeling he won't make it to the end of the game. probably gonna get killed off.

if it was something like "The Last of Us 2018's GOTY" then i'd understand.
Part 2 sounds better than just TLOU2
I love that sequel naming can be pretentious now.
Ya random internet man, this game was definitely created by guys in "suits" that just want to make a quick buck. They should have consulted with the professionals on neogaf first.
I know I'm supposed to stay quiet and let the circle jerks happen, but it fucking baffles me when people act they know whats best for the franchise and games, not those that actually made it.
I 100% get not liking the direction and it not being your thing. But the amount of "it should have been ____" and objective statements is absurd.
"Part II" implies a continuation. No doubt ND always had plans for a sequel if the first was successful.
I like it, reminds me of the Godfather. Also like the Godfather, this game is a sequel to a movie than stands on its own and doesn't seem like it needs a sequel.
I think an older Ellie will be an even more brutal combatant than Joel. We never did play as Ellie post-Winter
Does a 19 year old girl sound that different to a 14 year old girl?I was thinking that too. Young Ellie voice in full effect. They need to nail the aging of her voice to make this cohesive.
She's gonna need a bigger knife.I think an older Ellie will be an even more brutal combatant than Joel. We never did play as Ellie post-Winter
Anyone have link for the panel?

She won't spend half an hour singing sweet lullabies into people's ears, it's just *snap* and they're gone.I think an older Ellie will be an even more brutal combatant than Joel. We never did play as Ellie post-Winter
Eh, to me, the name comes off as pretentious and egotistical if anything.
im starting TLOU:R for the first time, going to play on normal difficulty.
Wish me luck!
That too. Joel had to shed his humanity and civilized nature to get where he is. Ellie only knows this world, and now she's spent the last five years with Joelyeah, at the very least Joel spent all of his formative years in a sane civilized world.
Huh? From what I've read in this thread neogaf seems to be overwhelmingly positive about the announcement, where are these anti-TLOUP2 circle jerks you refer to taking place? I didn't at all say that I didn't like the direction or 'it should have been ____", in fact I started my post by saying I was excited for the game just like everyone else. All I said was that the sequel title, in my opinion, undermined the narrative impact of the original game, and I mentioned the negative connotations that it conjured up when I considered it (marketing requirements, developers pushed to work on a sequel instead of new IP, etc). I can't imagine why you picked my post to single out and condescend when I made it clear that it was written from a place of appreciation and respect for the experience of the original game.
Edit: Yeah, I'm a "random internet man", trying to respectfully communicate my opinion just like everyone else here. I apologize if my presence offends you.

Dont do that. Hard with listen mode off is the way to go.
Also, enjoy. Best game I have ever played.
I don't understand how you can be OK with the direction of the game, but somehow not be OK with the title for the reason that it signifies the direction you previously said you were OK with.
If you've played the game, the definitive "narrative impact" has already been made. Even just watching the ending changes the narrative impact, and it'll change on repeat viewings, or when you're discussing it with other people, or thinking about it when you're in a different state of mind than you were when you watched it for the first time, or any other number of reasons. So how can a sequel truly change your impression of the ending, let alone the title of the game. Like, what are we complaining about here? Let alone the fact that we know literally jack shit about the game yet.
This easily one of THE most ridiculous things I've ever read on GAF, the internet even.
Artsy films like The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, The Godfather, Kill Bill, and Guardians of the Galaxy? So does having a 2 without the word "part." It sounds like they are trying too hard to make it sound like a play or an artsy film.
Awesome, thanks.official playstation youtube page. all the panels are there.

I can't imagine that the last part of the game won't have any lasting affect on the relationship between the two.Seeing as it's five years, it could be entirely possible that the ending of the first game has no bearing on this game, and isn't even mentioned, or just mentioned in passing.
Can you imagine how pissed off people would be if that happened lol
I actually don't think people would be pissed off if it's only hinted at in passing, the franchise's understated storytelling was pretty well received.Seeing as it's five years, it could be entirely possible that the ending of the first game has no bearing on this game, and isn't even mentioned, or just mentioned in passing.

Why do people always gotta be like "NAH BRO PLAY ON HARD AND TURN ALL THE SHIT OFF EVEN THOUGH I DON'T KNOW YOU AND YOU MIGHT HATE IT!". If someone wants to play on a difficulty they should go with that. Playing how someone else thinks its supposed to be played is how people get turned off from a game.
