The Last of Us: Part II - PGW17 Trailer

It was good, I hope that it's not a flashback though like people are speculating. I'd also like to play as and be able to punch enemies as the tank chick character, she looks boss.
Why would it be a flashback? Wouldnt that contradict the first trailer with the adult Ellie?

I seriously doubt that woman is Ellie's mom. If you notice, when she's thrown to the ground, she looks up and sees hanged bodies that have been disemboweled. I think she's a side character who got caught by these cult baddies, maybe she was once a member, and I don't think she's pregnant. Of course it's all speculation, but it's fun to theorize the direction ND is going story wise.

That trailer was out of this world. I know people don't like the word "cinematic" when it comes to games, but it was cinematic in all the good ways.

Holy hell that Polygon article is horrendous.

And yeah, the new forum's threads on this trailer are a mess (yes, apparently they needed around 3 threads full of hand wringing). A bunch of people derailing with moaning about how this is TOO brutal, and too far for video games to be properly inclusive of various audiences, and of course the fact that the violence here is all inflicted on women.

Beat the shit out of the women in games, you're attacked. Beat the shit out of only men, then you're attacked because women don't have equivalent representation. Always a lose lose situation.

Came in expecting more than I should have based on the first few posts.

Trailer was underwhelming for me. Wish there was gameplay shown. Beautiful graphics do very little for me.

Oh boi.. Who the f come's up with those articles. Why do they always try to make an issue out of nothing? "violence against women"?? its just violence full stop, why does it make a difference which gender is involved

Fishing for clicks, nothing more. Did they criticize the fact that the first game had you kill only human men?

Well I expect it to be the most emotional of their game... I am scared somehow about what to expect... I hope they can do a good story again.

Looks amazing visually, but it's not my type of game. Seems really grim, gritty and brutal. :/

It's gonna be harrowing I bet.

I hope they haven't taken the fail The Walking Dead Season 7 approach and just double down on the bleakness and brutality because they mistakenly think that's what made the previous seasons compelling. It ain't about turning the violence up to 11 and turning the tone right down to the deepest black it should be about character and story.

Agree. TWD season 7 was hard to watch (thankfully, it seems season 8 is something different). I don't think ND is aiming for that kind of darkness and agony in TLOUP2. At least I hope not. But it has been know for a year now that the sequel will be about hatred and revenge, so to not expect a pretty dark game would be naive.

they also announced the full voice cast recently...so maybe they're further along in development...early 2018 release!?

Unfortunately next to no chance, we've not seen any gameplay and Days Gone will be out before then and allowed a chance to thrive rather than be killed off by this - late 2018 at earliest

If anything it's late 2019

Ellies girlfriend

I think we will get a lot of lesbo action in this one

That one scene is better than anything The Walking Dead show has ever done by a country mile.

i hate The boring dead show, but the first episode of season 7 is better than The last of us as a whole

TLOU had an amazing gameplay, but a boring and generic story, i know, my opinion is unpopular

Does it make sense that they announced/revealed it in December 2016 knowing it would be 3 years till release?

Could it be possible that they lauch TLOU2 nearly at the PS4 end and then throw a remaster for PS5 like happened this gen. So a 2018 fall or 2019 first quarter is my bet.

Anything is possible I guess but I'm going to wait and see how much of a power bump PS5 will be. If it is 5-6X PS4 as I suspect then I can't see that being enough to justify remasters as the visual difference will be much less apparent than with previous gens?

If Sony stick with the HW iteration model then I see this as the replacement for SW remasters.

its hard to ignore such a fucking shitty ass post.

who gives a flying fuck? so what if she's on a roid cycle? and why does she have to be on a roid cycle to be muscular? how old are you?

I care? I played TLoU and I liked Joel/Ellie. I don’t like that character - and yes, she looks over the top to me.

Asking me how old I am and you’re not even able to reply without dropping “f” bombs. The irony.

I reckon 100% not Ellie though

Then you’re 100% wrong.

I didn’t like playing as Ellie as much after playing as Joel for so long but I did like the way it opened up in the snow, bow hunting. I also enjoyed that she was trying to protect/save him. I just liked their relationship. That’s what I remember TLoU to be I guess.

That's how this forum was with them there. So same people.

SJWs are hard to deal with

always crying

2018? No chance. They went in full production in August 2017.
Mid 2019 (May/June) would be my guess.

According to wiki it started development in 2014 if that can be believed but I do doubt they would announce a game before they were in full production. More like those in the studio who were on holiday after Lost legacy shipped joined the TLOU2 team and now the whole studio are working just on this game for the final leg of dev.

Not to say it will come out before 2019 but it would surprise me if it ends up being up to 3 years from announcement.

Everybody can write in a wiki. That is not serious source. What the wiki is referring to is an interview with Neil Druckmann. AFAIK that interview was the one after the first trailer at PSX. Would be too long to summarize everything. Here is the Youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gF1EQAtaZEo

In that interview he simply says that he told Ashley Johnson about the story of the second game back in 2014. But thats it.

Now take a look back:
- After Left Behind the whole studio was fused together to one single group. Everyone was focusing on Uncharted 4 and some people on TLOU:R. They even stated that.
- After Uncharted 4 launched the main focus went to The Lost Legacy.
- At PSX it was said, that the game is in "really early state of development".
- Naughty Dog also stated in an interview, that most of the people are working on The Lost Legacy. They also mentioned that The Last of Us Part II is not in full production yet.
- They said full production of Part II will start as soon as TLL is finished
- In the credits of The Lost Legacy they have an category that is called "Special thanks to the kennel". In this category around 30 people are listed. In other words: These are the guys and girls that worked full time on Part II (can be confirmed by checking their Twitter profile etc.) while the rest of the team was focused on TLL.

And then there is this interview. The interesting part starts at 0:20

I do see what you mean but then why reveal so early again and how have they managed to create a very polished cut scene so early if everyone was only working on something else including some mocap actors?

Im saying im pretty sure that girl ain't Ellie

Considering how his thread has gone smoothly, and how "the other site" thread has derailed, becoming a conversation about "is this too far for video games". I think we really are better off.

I personally feel, Naughty Dog is trying to make art here, and I look forward to the story, I'm very intrigued.

There's a place for both. Talking about the game while talking about it in the face of bigger societal issues or views.

I love the fact that this game can create those conversations. While I disagree with Polygon's writer on this one, it is something worth listening to and talking about. Any reason why you don't want to talk about it at all?

Because it is hard to avoid leaks these days. If I remember correctly Neil Druckmann (?) or some other dev from ND mentioned something like that. And then there is stuff like building hype and so on.
Besides that there could be several reasons how they were able to create these good looking cutcenes so early. The first one from the PSX Trailer was recordered back in 2013 or 2014. "The real" mo-cap work started this spring. Since we know they already have the engine ready to use it should not be that hard for them to transform the Mo-Cap recordings into a good looking trailer/cutcene.
Also their excuse that TLOU was not at E3 is a bit strange. They told us that they want to focus on TLL at the event. But I do not really believe that. I mean for real. They announced TLL and TLOU:PII at the same day at PSX 2016. Where is the problem, with showing both games at E3? My guess here is, that they simply were not able to show us something like that trailer at that point of time.

Another interesting theory:
What if this scene shows us how Ellies mother joined the Fireflies. Emily (the evil lady) is talking about "wings" before they broke Yaras Arms with the hammer.
We all know the fireflies (I am talking about the animals now) have wings. So maybe the Lev and Yara are fireflies and after killing the infected her mother follows Yara and Lev to the fireflies. Maybe Ellie meets Yara and/or Lev in the future while she is searching for the fireflies. And that could be the point when they tell her the story and we see that flashback from the trailer.

When they broke the girl's arm with a hammer, I cringed. Are these still videogames?

With the kind of violence we see on TV these days (see TWD), this is nothing. Hasn't been for a long time I think. Video games are just catching up visually.

If that IS Ellie's mother, and I'm more or less certain it is, I don't think it's a flashback. You only have to look at the first game to see the probable format. I think we'll start as Ellie's mother and then, when the backstory is complete, get a black splashscreen (after credits roll and more Cordycep news) with '40 years later', which will likely echo, not mirror, the end scene of the mother. The mother will die (sad situation), after the splashsceen, Ellie will be doing something happy, perhaps playing the guitar or laughing with friends.

I also don't think the very last scene of this trailer is accurate. I reckon they've changed out the textures from runners to clickers in order to mess with the timeline. Watch it closely. By the way, the moans from the protagonist and the way she looks DOES remind me very much of Ashley Johnson, so I also think that tweet is a red herring too. Remember, Ellie looks nothing like Ashley Johnson. Perhaps this is why some people are mistaking her for Ellie?

https://twitter.com/Naughty_Dog/status/925058760120320002

When it says: 'And finally, Laura Bailey is' with a 4 letter space, I think it's a different character, not the mother. If you've got the actress that plays the daughter then you're going to want to use her for the mother too. Listen to those groans and sighs carefully. ND do this all the time. I'm not buying it just yet.

Why not just tweet Druckman and ask him how long has it been under development.
