Why don't you put your account where your mouth is and wager a ban if you are so sure?Haleon said:The N64 launched at $250.
soundwave05 said:The N64 was initially supposed to be $249.99 US ... that was the announced price when Nintendo announced the machine in August 1993 in a partnership with Silicon Graphics.
The system was initially supposed to ship in late 1995.
Of course it was delayed. At some point during spring/summer 1996, Nintendo decided to drop the price to $199.99 and launch at that price. This caused Sony to drop the price of their Playstation in advance of the N64 launch.
Believe me. I know my N64 history![]()

I too paid $199 at TRU. Really, if you paid $250USD you got screwed. Though I did pay $220 for my SNES.Haleon said:No they didn't. I still have my N64 box with a $249.99 sticker on it from Walmart. Somehow I doubt Walmart was price gouging.
That's fine. Find me proof that the N64 launched at $199.99. A google search turns up nothing "official", but it does turn up a surprising amount of people that also paid $249.99 for it. So I guess a lot of people got screwed then, huh?Baron Aloha said:Why don't you put your account where your mouth is and wager a ban if you are so sure?
N64 launched at $199.99.
Why on Earth would Nintendo release something so weak compared to the other systems? Even if the 360 is more powerful then rev it will be a similer gap between them as GC/XBox.Letter to Elise said:You've missed alot then.... =(

Vice President of Epic Games, Mark Reign has some apparent distaste for Revolution's controller, as seen in this video from the IGN Live Next-Gen Panel. He insists games will be "all about the graphics" in the upcoming generation, and that Nintendo fans are in for "the most crappy, cheap, I-wish-I-hadn't-bought-it gimmicks ever".
Ok, the first link you posted says the "press release" dropped the price to $150.00. The press release isn't even posted. Then a second guy comes on and says that the N64 is "still" 199.99 in the US (as if it's already out). Third, this is about as official as my link to the two guys saying they paid 250 for it.borghe said:

You got screwed. Plain and simple.
soundwave05 said:Technically Sept. 29th, although many retailers broke the street date.
Originally the launch date was supposed to be Sept. 30th, but Nintendo moved it up a day or two.
MS cleary want to grow the market and Nintendo cleary wants to grow its profit. The moves they are making tell me this. I think people are counting too much on a new cotroller to gain market share. While some die hard Nintendo fans may be foaming at the mouth, general public is going to think the Rev is a malnourished next gen console. Sure some people will buy it, but I think if this news is true it will may only erode Nintendo fans more. MY brother was in love with Nintendo, he loved the NES, The SNES, but then with N64 things started to change and with GC, he constantly started to diss Nintendo, Rev may do him in. :lolMusashi Wins! said:I don't think that's true at all. I take them at their word that they want an increased audience, the sort of people who would buy a cheaper but unique entertainment device. I think they would keep parents, get more new audience and dump the hardcore in a perfect world. They'd probably rather everyone who owned a NES bought one for their kids out of nostalgia rather than care about a forums expectations.
STFU once again please. Go justify your dwindling manhood somewhere else. You got the facts wrong, and you got fucked over. Just stop! :lol :lolHaleon said:Wait a minute, what day did the N64 come out?
EDIT
This says September 29th
http://www.n-sider.com/hardwareview.php?hardwareid=7
But the price cut to 199.99 didn't take place until August 15th, which would mean they DIDN'T launch at 200. They price dropped to 200 to match a PS2 price drop.
Haleon said:So it came out September 29th, but here's a link from one of you guys claiming it launched at 200
http://groups.google.com/group/rec....&q=nintendo+64&rnum=29&hl=fr#396cb3053d6f7774
Read the link.
Yes, it's true. In today's business section of the S.F Chronicle (Aug.
15,1996), Nintendo officially announced a $50 price-cut on the U.S.
Nintendo 64 unit. The company "slashed the price of the Nintendo 64 to
$199 from $249 to match price cuts of rivals Sony Corp. and Sega
Enterprises Co...."
August 15th.
So they DROPPED the price AFTER it was launched, which would make me correct.
