The Last-Stop-Speak-In-Hyperbole Official Revolution Specs Thread

So it came out September 29th, but here's a link from one of you guys claiming it launched at 200

http://groups.google.com/group/rec....&q=nintendo+64&rnum=29&hl=fr#396cb3053d6f7774

Read the link.

Yes, it's true. In today's business section of the S.F Chronicle (Aug.
15,1996), Nintendo officially announced a $50 price-cut on the U.S.
Nintendo 64 unit. The company "slashed the price of the Nintendo 64 to
$199 from $249 to match price cuts of rivals Sony Corp. and Sega
Enterprises Co...."

August 15th.

So they DROPPED the price AFTER it was launched, which would make me correct.
"Thats a surprise! Even though I knew they would do it I didn't expect them
to do it before the stinkin machine even came out!!"

Holy shit, I'm retarded.

EDIT

Ok, there's nothing for me to do but accept defeat at this point. I apparently paid 50 dollars more than I was supposed to, and now 9 years later am being made to look like a complete asshole. Fuck you Nintendo. Revolution sale -1.

Ah 1996 ...

Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum were busying blowing up aliens

People were speculating the new Star Wars prequel would be called "Balance of the Force" and would be ... good.

J.K. Rowlings was broke and writing on napkins.

Tickle Me Elmo set off riots thanks to Rosie O' Donnell

Biggie and Tupac were still alive (well not for long)

Alright, Haleon, how about those of us who paid $199.99 at launch just got a super-duper deal? Would that make you feel better?

I am pretty embarassed. I paid 50 dollars more, was made to look like an idiot, and now am going to get banned for possibly the most retarded argument of all time.

The article is dated Aug 15, 1996. The price dropped to $200 a month before launch which is exactly what someone else already said. Therefore it was $200 at launch.

You've had a rather poor showing in this thread, haven't you?

One of the worst ever. I haven't been owned this badly since my girlfriend dumped me for my best friend in 10th grade.

EDIT THREAD TITLE: "Do you really know when the N64 launched? (oh and some Rev teasing as well)"
Haha. Indeed. :lol

Let's get back onto the subject... or let the thread die until IGN is actually updated.

Ouch!

It'll be OK. We all own ourselves now and again ;)

What if its using "distributive computing" to match the competition???

I don't really see what there is to compain about.

To the average user (you know, people who don't know pixel shaders from PPUs and have never heard of -- or care to hear about -- bump mapping) graphical quality is simply about how pretty the pictures are; art direction has as much to do with that perception as horesepower. Things like advanced lighting effects and shading won't be entirely lost on the average user, but they are simply registered in a very general sense as part of the image's "prettiness" or "smoothness."

If the Rev's specs are as relatively weak as hinted, then the average user probably will be able to tell the difference between a 360 and a Rev game, but it will seem extreme only in a situation where the games are seen either side-by-side or one after the other. And even then, strong art direction might be able to significantly close the perception gap.

Only tech-heads understand polygon counts and shaders and mapping to the point where those things become evident during gameplay. That's not to downplay specs importance as marketing tools, or how having modest numbers could play into the perception of technological inferiority.

However, it's worth mentioning that the average consumer might see the Rev controller as a technological leap over current controllers, which could help erase technology perception deficit as well.

That post seriously reeks of logic, which is not allowed here!

There's more ... it won't be easy for you to hear this ... but the N64 ... it launched at ... $199.99 ...

No ... it don't believe it ... you're wrong ... I want out

Gamecube = GC
Rev = GC++.NET

lolz

</troll>

I hear that it's underwhelming, but I guess if they're staying standard-def all they really need to do is out-do the Xbox 1 and it will seem like a pretty big jump.

I agree. GameCube with online play (among other things... like that controller) = :D...

God I can't wait. I've got my Captain N boxers on, Super Mario music playing in the background, and AstroLube ready to go. Make me feel good Matt.

Wait, what? Are you really that excited? (I know you were joking about the AstroLube, for the most part) What exactly is going to be "revealed" today? The actual medium, the RAM and some other tech bullshit? :)

Truth is I've basically accepted Nintendo's decision. It's not like it was a sudden shock move, they've been saying that they want to focus on non-hardcore/non-gamers for a long time now.

I hope the Revolution brings a lot of arcadey styled games, like light gun type shooters. Those are some of my favorite genres, if that's the case I'll be quite happy.

all that for an IGN-Matt interview with some "anonymous" developers ?

Gracefully done. A little late.

Oh, and I wouldn't blame Nintendo. But I wouldn't buy my Rev from Walmart if I were you!

No, *really* underwhelming. Like, most of the specs fall well within "this gen." :( But like I said, that's not a dealbreaker.
